See, I'm actually early this time so no one needs to panic about late-starting IGTs (at least for now).

Friday [7:10] Ranger Suarez (L) [8-5; 3.68; 1.36 WHIP] vs Scherzer

Phils have been nearly as hot as the Mets lately although did get shutout 3-0 by the Marlins (and Not by Alcantara) Thursday afternoon.

Better yet, they did so even after loading the bases with no outs in bottom 9 but failed to push across even one run much less all three.

But, even with today's loss, they're 7-2 in August and 22-11 since July 1 [Mets = 9-2; 26-10] and currently hold WC slot #2 as the most

likely scenario has them as one of five teams (along with ATL, SDP, StL, MIL) fighting for four playoff spots [NLC champ + 3 WCs]

They're scoring runs just a hair behind NYM levels and are doing so without Bryce Harper and are pitching much better than earlier in the season.

They've also done some house cleaning lately releasing vets Jeurys Familia, Dee Dee Gregorius, and Odubel Herrera. Trade deadline pickups

include Noah Syndergaard (who we won't see) and reliever David Robertson (who will likely will). Also Jean Segura is recently off the 60-day IL.

LF Kyle Schwarber leads the NL in HRs but also strained a calf in Thursday game; he'll likely miss Friday with Sat & Sun being TBD

Saturday [7:10] Aaron Nola [8-8; 3.17; 0.98] vs deGrom

Sunday [1:40] Zack Wheeler [11-5; 2.63; 1.03] vs Bassitt

Haha this is funny and my husband and I have thought about the reasons for this and we are stumped

Keith has a date and I hope the hell it's not with Trumps daughter

Posted

Look, Keith (and Ron) are contracted for X number of games per year* so each is going to miss various series during the course of the season including deGrom

starts, division rival games, and other important match-ups. And of course all that stuff -- how many home games, how many long road trips, etc. -- is up for

negotiations, including this series. If Keith wants to take this one off because the Phils lack of "fundies" (unlike what the linked article harps on, it's not just

the physical errors or poor range) offends his aesthetic sense of the game then that's as good a reason as any as far as I'm concerned. He has to know that

he'd take heat for going public with the reason and obviously doesn't care. Neither do I. I think it's kind of amusing actually.

* a bit over 100 IIRC so each is missing approx 1/3 of all games

I mean, that's the beauty of being Keith Hernandez. He doesn't have to give AF about the stuff other people do. I walk that same path actually. It's liberating.

deadspin is so much more trash now than it used to be. i kinda hate myself that it's one of my daily clicks. but i hate most other sports sites more, so whaddayagonnado?

keith is right. philly is garbage. er, i mean, the phillies are garbage. i don't actually have much of an opinion on the town itself. it's probably also true that getting to philly is one of the least pleasant trips available, and he'd rather say, 'yeah, philly sucks and it pains me to watch them', than , 'fuck it just i don't wanna sit in a damned bus for four hours trying to get to the game'. i cannot blame him either way.

Well he's getting his own cruddy deal, like the rest of us, he'll have to suffer through an Apple TV+ broadcast to watch tonight's game.

I forgot about the Apple thing and forget if I figured out a way to watch

for free. It's very aggravating, fuck MLB and Manfred, you shouldn't have

to jump through hoops to watch a fucking ballgame.

This week happens to be one in which the Mets/Phillies is their "Free game of the week," so as long as you have the app installed, you should be able to watch it (though I'll confess I don't know if there are blackout restrictions). I watched the last one that was the free game of the week on their app (installed on my Google Chromecast) and it worked fine, subpar commentary notwithstanding

I had no idea tonight was an Apple game. Fuck!

As far as the deadspin article, I don't care if it's Philly-centric or not. The problem with it is that the author acts as if Keith works 162 ganes/year but is refusing to do these and these alone,, even to the point of losing pay for them, all out of some sort of odd principle he can't understand.

You can't understand it, dude, cuz you're overthinking things and you wasted a half-page of stats trying to figure it out.

B-b-b-but, the 2022 Phillies aren't statistically the worst of all time ... not even of this current season!!

Wow, thanks man, that changes everything. I'll be on the first flight.

I get Apple TV on the TV I'd rather not watch it on and can log on with my

iTunes password. Google Play will not let me install it on the TV I want to

watch it on for some reason. Click click click, nothing happens.

It's crazy and quite maddening.

I must be getting the 'channel' some how through Prime Firestick on other TV. I

can't load it on the other TV using a Verizon streaming device. I have a lot to do

this evening (at least early on) so radio will have to do. They can still kiss my Peacock.

it plays in a browser and I can cast a chrome tab to my TV if i want. Doesn't work if I want to watch on a mobile device from say, the kitchen, though.

Keith isn't ducking this series as he has a STL WS Anniversary event this weekend. He's ducking next weekend's series in PHI (although with Ronnie working for TBS on Tuesday we've had more of Keith on the weekdays and Ronnie on the weekends).

No Kyle Schwarber who left last night's game with an injury.

Stephen Nelson, Cliff Floyd, Heidi Watney, and Katie Nolan are your Apple+ announcers.

I managed to jump through all the hoops and install Apple TV on my Samsung smart tv. Turned it on just now and the game being offered was Padres Nationals. I thought it meant a local blackout, but I was able to scroll to the right to find Mets Phillies.

Criticize this broadcast all you want but the picture is amaze-za-zing.

I've muted the Apple booth and have managed to sync Howie & Wayne to the video and listen to them through my living room speakers.

As good as it gets? I dunno but it's close.
