I went with states because I thought we had done that once before, but couldn't prove it!



But yeah, let's do all of the categories that Edgy suggested. I'm especially eager to see how the Heinz thing plays out. Why leave anything on the table? If history is a guide, it may be another eight or ten years before we get to do this again.

With Philly (x3), Atlanta (x4) and Philly (x4) again (followed by the Yanx x2), these next few series have the potential to send this number plummeting rather quickly.

They also have the potential to make starting this countdown in early August look like a really bad idea.

The Mets playoff magic number is 39. If the Mets went 20-30 the Padres would have to 31-18 AND the Phillies would have to go 32-21.



the 2007 Mets went 25-25 and 0-7 against the Phillies.



If the Mets went 0-7 against the Phillies, and went say 20-23 otherwise, the Phillies would still have to go 25-21 AND the Padres would still have to win 31 more.

The Mets playoff magic number is 39.


That's a more important countdown. I want the division, more out of wanting the franchise to finally get back-to-back division titles, but to erase last year's collapse, and 2007's, where two teams played in a Game 163 tie-breaker for the Wild Card that weren't the Mets, sewing up a postseason spot is a goal that should be watched with the same scrutiny.
