G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 Braves send Will Smith (the reliever, not the catcher nor the slapper) to Houston for starter Jake Odorizzi.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 1, 2022 Posted August 1, 2022 I like that deal...for the Mets! Odirizzi doesn't worry me in a playoff series (does he even pitch in one?) while Smith was a very good reliever prior to this year,
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Still looking for two bullpen arms (even if Trevor May comes back healthy/productive). Whatcha got, Billy Eppler?
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Braves also got Robbie Grossman from the Tigers.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 White hot Braves still making deals to try and improve. Curious to see if the Mets make any more transactions before 6 PM today.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 The Cubs' Contrares and Robertson still on the board? Martino says the Mets are talking with the Tigers for Andrew Chafin and Michael Fulmer.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Syndergaard might be traded. How about Noah + the difference between what the Mets were going to pay him and what LAA paid him for a middling prospect? He can pitch out the 'pen.

roger_that Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 What will it take to land Wilson Contreras at this point? Or is he off the table? What we need most of all is a slugging catcher, much more than bullpen help.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Contreras IS getting moved, there's no mystery to that. To where and for what is the question.

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 The Orioles trade Jorge Lopez, a closer with a 1.68 ERA under control through 2024, to the Twins for 4 prospects, the highest of which is ranked 22 in the Twins' system.Did they think they were selling high? Also, why didn't the Mets beat that offer?
Methead Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Juan Soto and Josh Bell to the Padres appears to be done.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 No excuse to not have a no-hitter tonight.(Combined. I get that deGrom still has a pitch limit)
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Well, maybe he'll get through the Nationals lineup in 27 pitches.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 still waiting on Eric Hosmer's approval of the trade actually. Maybe the Mets can still swoop in and three-way deal this thing.
smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 (edited) Yeah, the NATIONALS are taking on the undesirable contract to make this deal work. Edgy, is there something wrong with the air in the Baltimore/DC area that their general managers are running their teams like fifth graders in a Strat-o-Matic league with high schoolers? Edited August 2, 2022 by Guest
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Wonder what Hosmer would be able to extract for waiving the no-trade clause. $5M? $10M? $20M?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Hosmer really has a lot of leverage here.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 i don't get at all why the nats would take hos and effectively give away bell. only plausible explanation is that there's somehow "value" to having a guy on contract, instead of the uncertainty of a pending free agent. when, like, selling a team, of course. there's no baseball sense to it.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 It depends a bit on the deal parameters. If San Diego was going to eat the contract (or part of it), then at some point they could just release Hosmer. If the point was to get money off the books, well, paying Hosmer $30M to waive the no-trade is still some salary relief (he's owed $39M for 2023-25 plus balance of this year).
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 ah... it does actually look, according to rumors on mlb tv, like SD is paying the last three years on hos. so yeah, there's value there of course!

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 As much as I like to see the Nationals get worse, I *also* get to watch their AAA team every night, so having a bunch of top prospects who may or may not pan out is kind of exciting.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 2, 2022 Posted August 2, 2022 Reports say that Hosmer has rejected the trade, but it's expected to go through without him.
