Sounds like he's already out of the running for the 2022 Cy Young Award. See you in June, if we're lucky. There's something not right with his arm that isn't showing up on MRI's. He's had these flareups in 2019 as well.

Jake was feeling fine until Wright showed up in Spring Training camp. I'm beginning to think that David (he of the ever-lasting back injury) was the jinx all along.

Or, more plausibly, maybe throwing 100 MPH right out of the gate has something to do with it.

I'll be surprised if he makes it to opening day without his arm exploding.

Well, I knew it, too, and adjusted my Catch-22 accordingly. You can't miss half a year, do nothing and then expect everything will be OK miraculously. There is something wrong with deGrom and he's not admitting it and/or the Mets medical staff is as incompetent as I think them to be.

I'd be disappointed to find out any athlete with a long term contract on the line doesn't consult with outside physicians before taking team-retained physicians at their word.

I'm disproportionately angry about this deGrom thing. Like it's his fault, or mine, or anyone's. I'm just fucking mad, is all.

Mets believe Max Scherzer is 'going to be okay for Opening Day' despite reported hamstring issue

Scherzer would likely pitch Opening Day without Jacob deGrom available

In the past, the Mets Doctors' missed time estimates have been about as accurate as the January 6th White House call log.

Let's see if these guys are more accurate.

A seven or eight week layoff before deGrom returns is the best case scenario, according to:

“Again, it's really hard to say,” Mets GM Billy Eppler said on Friday when asked when he realistically expects deGrom to be pitching a major-league game. “MRIs guide you, but you treat patients. There could be situations where we manipulate the shoulder a little bit, move him around, test him. If he doesn't present with any kind of symptom at that time and everything seems to go well, and it goes well for a number of days in a row, then maybe you're looking at a little bit earlier.”

Based on that timeline, and the amount of days it will take for the Mets ace to build back up, deGrom's best-case scenario is missing anywhere from 7-8 weeks of the regular season. He last pitched in an MLB game on July 7, 2021 and missed the entire second half of the season with right elbow inflammation. In addition to the elbow injury, deGrom also dealt with back stiffness, right lat and side tightness, right flexor tendinitis and right shoulder soreness in 2021.
