Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 The Wall that gave Bucky Dent a home run that wouldn't have gone out in any other ballpark prevented Giancarlo Stanton from hitting what would've been two home runs in any other ballpark. I guess that evens things out in Yankees/Red Sox "tiebreaker" games.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 And then the kicker is that Stanton's actual HR went about 320'
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 That was a good adjustment to go the other way though.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2021 Author Posted October 6, 2021 I almost made it to the 7th inning stretch before going to bed. But good things happened. So I'm all fine with it.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 I hate the Cardinals and Dodgers with equal fervor, but with the possibility of back-to-back championships for Los Angeles, I'll have to hold my nose and root for St. Louis now and hope they get eliminated in the LDS. And the Cardinals score a first inning run on a wild pitch by Max Scherzer as I write this.

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2021 Author Posted October 6, 2021 I hate them both too but I will hate the Cardinals until the Mets win their next WS and vanquish all that Wainwright/Molina garbage from my world.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 The winner of this gets the Giants so the Dodgers advancing gives us a more hate-filled next round ... so I'm pulling for that.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 Joe West looks like a baked potato.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 When do you suppose the last time was that a .165 hitter got as many as 350 ABs -- as Bellinger did this year?
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2021 Author Posted October 6, 2021 I think it's stupid that the WC winner automatically becomes the #4 seed. They should seed the ALDS and NLDS based on regular season reacords.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 Two leadoff/2nd place hitting short stopsTrea Turner: 68 (reg season) ABs w/bases loaded, 5 GSDerek Jeter: 262 ABs w/bases loaded, 1 GSJus' sayin'

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 This game is turning out to be going at a MUCH slower pace than last night's contest. Lots o' pitches for both aces.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 6, 2021 Posted October 6, 2021 4 minutes 10 seconds between the last pitch Scherzer threw and the first one his replacement Kelly threw. Good thing we figured out how to save 8 seconds by going to the automatic intentional walk because there's clearly no other ways to cut time in this game.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 I turned this one off and went to bed with 1 on in the 9th. Chris Taylor homered just then and Dodgers walk off
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Author Posted October 7, 2021 I made it barely into the 6th-7th inning range. I was long gone when that ball went out.Glad to have both the MFYs and the MFCs be done with their respective seasons. A pox on both of their houses, I say!
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 I'll always remember where I was when I woke up to check the score.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Yeah, somehow these clowns managed to turn a 1-1 (until the final pitch) game into a 4:15 affair, an hour longer than the Yanx/Sawx from the previous night. The gap between the final pitch of top 9 and the first pitch in bottom 9 was over 5-1/2 minutes as StL decided, after their pitcher was warmed up, that they needed a new pitcher when LAD announced a PH, so now the new guy had to be given time to trot in then warm up.I fell asleep on the couch but then happened to wake up just in time for the GW HR
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 And so the Dodgers and Giants will meet in the postseason for the first time ever (not counting the 1951 tie-breaker series). Will there be a shot heard 'round the world? Will there be a sign-stealing scandal? Will the TBS announcers refer to the 1951 series at least once an inning throughout the NLDS?
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 That's gonna be a barnburing, fanbeating mess. There literally is a few parking lot murders every time these teams play.

MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 A pox on both of these houses is good, but I'll be rooting for the San Andreas Fault.I'm heavily leveraged in Seaport of Phoenix bonds.Later

Thomson's "shot" rendered them useless until the following spring.
