Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 4, 2021 Posted October 4, 2021 As much as I include "Predicted Terry Collins' Hiring" on my business card and at the top of my LinkedIn profile, I had no idea that Luis Rojas was going to be hired, and Carlos Beltran caught me as a big surprise too.I predicted Willie Randolph's hiring too, although there was a hell of a lot of writing on the wall to work with. I guess I'd've guessed Jerry Manuel's appointment, if it hadn't been announced simultaneously with Randolph's firing, leaving zero time for speculation. But we have a little time now, so let's get some action going. One name. Fill in the blank. "I say the next Mets manager will be __________."I'll open with, I say the next Mets manager will be ... Brian Schneider!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 I'm going to put my chips on the Mets hiring Billy Beane and him bringing in... Bob Melvin.(What? Did you think I was going to say Art Howe?)

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 I agree with BG. Beane's appearance in "Once Upon A Time" felt random to me but now it seems prescient. Beane returns and the Mets become Bob Melvin and the Blue and Orange Notes (something like that).Tim Britton suggested Ron Washington (also of the Moneyball era), shown here with "Billy Beane":https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyvu1nWjOlIhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyvu1nWjOlI

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 5, 2021 Author Posted October 5, 2021 Four pennants and three championships, but 26 games below .500. Bochy may want to come back to an MLB dugout just to secure his legacy.Good call. I approve.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 I say the next Mets manager will be ... Lenny Dykstra!
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 I say the next Mets manager will be ... Lenny Dykstra!Ha! I came very close to typing this in but decided to go more realistic at the last moment.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Lenny's got the personality pop that Cohen is attracted to, so don't rule it out!
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 I say the next Mets manager will be ... Lenny Dykstra!Just so I have a horse in the race, put me down for https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_EspadaJoe Espada.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 5, 2021 Author Posted October 5, 2021 Interesting call. Espada's a hot commodity. And I get the idea that a lot of organizations see a guy who was born in the Spanish-speaking Caribbean but raised or colleged in the English-speaking mainland United States to be a win-win.Espada (or Schneider, for that manner) would be the Mets quadrupling down — hiring a first-time manager four times in a row.Amazing to think that the next manager will be the fourth since Terry Collins.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Espada is the favorite on several grain-of-salt sites with takes on managerial odds.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Well, of course we first need to know who the POBO* is. I'm looking forward to watching that story develop.*An acronym that I think I first saw today, and I like it! President of Baseball Operations.
Willets Point Old-Timey Member Posted October 5, 2021 Posted October 5, 2021 Eventually, when the President of Baseball Operations falls under harsh scrutiny of the media and fans, he will say:"I'm just a POBO, nobody loves me."

Bob Alpacadaca Old-Timey Member Posted October 7, 2021 Posted October 7, 2021 Ron Washington, though he'll be busy for a little bit longer.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2021 Posted October 9, 2021 More than one name, from John Harper:https://www.sny.tv/articles/mets-look-for-next-manager-2022-season?fbclid=IwAR3fGSbmoiBA3LisUZvjldDJEK-z9Wo4OLxqA7f9j83y3qMuLCkNdf8pIrshttps://www.sny.tv/articles/mets-look-for-next-manager-2022-season?fbclid=IwAR3fGSbmoiBA3LisUZvjldDJEK-z9Wo4OLxqA7f9j83y3qMuLCkNdf8pIrs
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 9, 2021 Author Posted October 9, 2021 The image in that Harper article leaves out Carlos Beltran.https://images.contentstack.io/v3/assets/blt2be026723df76578/bltef7de333b875d05a/61575de46d2d465121b1bdd4/Mets_managers_Terry_Callaway_Rojas-New_Manger-TREATEDART.jpg?format=pjpg&auto=webp&width=960>Also, it's strangely snowy. And they've kind of standardized the height of all the managers, which is creepy.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 9, 2021 Posted October 9, 2021 If he gets fired by the Phillies(as rumored in Yahoo sports a few days ago), would Joe Girardi be a viable candidate?Later

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2021 Posted October 11, 2021 Girardi *was* an interesting candidate when the Mets were looking for a manger in 2019 after firing Callaway. I don't think his last two years have helped his case though.
