Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Remember that first pitch is at 1810 EDT!! I don't want to hear any crying for those of you who tune in at 1910 and wonder why it's in the 3rd inning already.Actually an hour into a game these days means it'll be more like top of the 2nd inning but you get the point. And it'll be the return of Seth Lugo to the rotation. June 25th 2018 was his last ML start, one of five he made that season: 4 innings, 6, 5, 3, and 5 ... and the Mets lost four of those. He was last a full time starter (19 games / 18 starts) in 2017This change is likely permanent ... right up until it isn't.The Marlins counter with lefty Daniel Castano who made his ML day-butte against the Mets on Aug 8. NYM bats hit him up for 5 runs (4 ER) in 4.1 IP as Mikey and Petey both went deep. He was considerably better in his second outing vs the Braves [1 ER over 6] though the Fish lost the game.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 I guess Metsies feel Lugo is at less risk to blow out the ligament since he can be managed through 6-7 starts only.I still think its risky.DO THE SWEEPLFGM!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Daniel Castano is the voice of Homer Simpson, isn't he?
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 [sarcasm]The line up is over on the Mets Twitter feed for those waiting for Edge to build a table [/sarcasm]

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 deGrom could get two starts in a row.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Please let two not become five or six
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Every other instance of this, the team affected has missed a clump of games. They'll be testing everyone out the wazoo.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 There goes deGrom's third straight Cy.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2020 Posted August 20, 2020 Well, we're not looking at that right now.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 Edgy MD wrote:Well, we're not looking at that right now.Now it's four games. And makeups, if any, will likely be doubleheaders, which will result in lost opportunities or starts for deGrom.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 It's possible that there will be a doubleheader on Monday, as both the Mets and Yankees are scheduled to be off. That might mean three doubleheaders, one on Monday, one at Citi against Miami (with the Mets batting in the top of the inning in one of the games) and a third doubleheader next weekend.Assuming no more positive test results, of course. It may mean fewer starts for deGrom, but it also means sixteen fewer innings for the bullpen.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 21, 2020 Posted August 21, 2020 I don't think we should put too much energy into award speculation. This is all going to change day-to-day.If the season ends today, Sonny Gray is probably a hair ahead of deGrom. Maybe two hairs. By next week, any number of circumstances — possibly related to the players' actual performances, possibly not — will have occurred. I'm just hoping (1) Tony DeFrancesco or Tim Teufel or someone isn't gonna die, and (2) whatever games the team plays, they win.Take 'em one day at a time. Do what you can to help the team. Give it your best shot and, the good Lord willing, things will work out.Awards are for insecure guys anyhow.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 Less than four hours until game time. As far as I can tell, starting pitchers have not been announced for either game and for either team yet.

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 Porcello and Lugo today.DeGrom tomorrow.TBA thereafter.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted August 25, 2020 Posted August 25, 2020 Not pitching deGrom in a situation where he might pitch a 7-inning complete game, on schedule to pitch another one 5 days hence, is criminal negligence. It's like the Mets are owned by Rachel Phelps.
