stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2020 Author Posted January 27, 2020 Dan Matlack, Jon's son, must have jumped the gun, or misinterpreted/misspoke about a Hall of Fame induction with that picture outside the Met Hall & Museum as the tweet was deleted. The Instagram pic, and original caption, is still up.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 27, 2020 Posted January 27, 2020 Guns can be jumped, but that they were fired cannot be denied. On two possibly unrelated notes...https://youtu.be/erMgpfiOMSUhttps://youtu.be/erMgpfiOMSUhttps://youtu.be/kW8gvGTlpWMhttps://youtu.be/kW8gvGTlpWM

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 16, 2020 Posted February 16, 2020 You know who always seems to be outside the conversation? Howard Johnson.I'm not sure where the line should be, but he was, by most fair measures, a top-ten Mets batter all-time, almost certainly ahead of Hall-of-Famers such as Mookie Wilson and Rusty Staub. Kraney Krane too. (Although, most "fair" measures aren't particularly fair when it comes to pinch-hitters.)
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2020 Posted March 5, 2020 BTW, the date for Mets HOF Day is Sunday, May 17, prior to the 1:10 game vs PIT.

stevejrogers Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2021 Author Posted April 3, 2021 According to the media guide, date of induction to be July 31st.August 28th is the date of the Koos36 retirement.Interestingly, in the Mets By The Numbers section, all 6 retired, and soon to be officially retired numbers are spotlighted, along with two others, Carter and Wright. Hmmmmmm...

G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2021 Posted April 9, 2021 The media guide dates may not be firm, based on DiComo's current reporting, understandable in the scheme of pandemic things. The Mets also plan to retire Koosman's No. 36, which they had intended to do last summer before COVID-19 interfered. That ceremony is now tentatively scheduled for September. In the second half of the season, the Mets will also induct three new members into their team Hall of Fame: Jon Matlack, Ron Darling and Edgardo Alfonzo.https://www.mlb.com/news/tom-seaver-statue-dedication-on-july-22https://www.mlb.com/news/tom-seaver-statue-dedication-on-july-22

Or Straw? What the hell did Carter do for the Mets that Keith or Darryl didn't? Or Cleon Jones? Or Tommie Agee?

When Jerry Koosman was inducted into the Mets Hall of Fame, the crowd in the stands was embarrassingly sparse.

That's two all-star seasons. That's not number retiring territory. Which is what what Gary Carter the Met was. Two really good seasons and then doneski. Like put a fork in him done.Hall of Fame? So Carter deserves to have his Met # retired over Keith because people think that Gary had a better career with the Expos than Keith had with the Cards? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
Marshmallowmilkshake Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2021 Posted April 9, 2021 I've always thought Carter's value to the Mets was greater than his stats. Just like Casey Stengel, who presumably had his number retired for reasons other than his won-loss percentage. I'd like to see Carter's number retired. I also think it's a little late. Honoring the 1986 team has always been a little complicated. Here's a nice story about Carter: https://metsmerizedonline.com/2021/04/gary-carter-sometimes-there-is-crying-in-baseball.html/https://metsmerizedonline.com/2021/04/gary-carter-sometimes-there-is-crying-in-baseball.html/
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted April 9, 2021 Posted April 9, 2021 Casey Stengel wasn't hired by the Mets to hit home runs.
