Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 From the immortal Ball Four:Now, the Astros are a team that likes to go out on the town,We like to drink and fight and fuck till curfew comes aroundThen it's time to make the trek,We better be back to Buddy's check,It makes a fellow proud to be an Astro. Now, Edwards is our catcher and he's really No. 1,Dave Bristol said he drinks too much and calls some long home runs,But we think John will be all right,If we keep him in his room at night,It makes a fellow proud to be an Astro. Now, our pitching staff's composed of guys who think they're 'pretty cool,'With a case of Scotch, a greenie and an old beat-up whirlpool,We'll make the other hitters laugh,Then calmly break their bats in half,It makes a fellow proud to be an Astro. Now, Harry Walker is the one that manages this crew,He doesn't like it when we drink and fight and smoke and screw,But when we win our game each day,Then what the fuck can Harry say?It makes a fellow proud to be an Astro. Now let's go pound some Budweiser.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 You can do this Houston.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 That song would make me proud to be an Astro, too.Go 'Stros!Later
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 I am friends with a few really die hard MFY fans, they also happen to loathe the Mets , it's all good fun of course but christ they can't win this ...I will never hear the end of it

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 11, 2019 Posted October 11, 2019 btw, should the Yanx get eliminated in this series, this decade (2010-19) would represent the only one of the last ten with no MFY appearance in a World Series (last appearance/win = 2009)and also the second in the last ten with no MFY WS win (the 1980s saw only their 1981 loss to LAD in six games)
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2019 Author Posted October 12, 2019 Not a promising Game One.

The Yankees win the pennant at least once a decade and for the Mets, it's two first place finishes in 31 seasons. You know what? I'm rooting for the Yankees. Because fuck the Wilpons. They should be tarred and feathered and chased out of town at torchlight by crazed villagers, like in Frankenstein. Edited October 12, 2019 by Guest
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 Bregman is one of the few non-Mets I like but take a damn pitch.
kcmets Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 I'm aggravated and not happy.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 12, 2019 Posted October 12, 2019 This game would have been a helluva lot more interesting had the Astros, y'know, shown up.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 Geez Houston, ya wanna leave a few more runners on base?!?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 Six innings; 2:39Imagine where they'd be if this were a high-scoring game?
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2019 Posted October 13, 2019 Just hit a home run already, Houston Twins
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 13, 2019 Author Posted October 13, 2019 Carlos Correa makes it all better.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 Watched none of this game. Between Houston leaving all of those on, plus it being a MFY game, plus the national broadcasters, and the pace of play, well, let's just say, not really sucking me in.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 This is the first time baseball has made me happy since Dom Smith touched home plate.

Between Houston leaving all of those on, plus it being a MFY game, plus the national broadcasters, and the pace of play, well, let's just say, not really sucking me in.4:49 was the final time of game which, 11 innings or not, is fucking ridiculous for a game with a total of 5 runs & 13 hits. We're MLB, and we make sure to end prior to One AM!! (even if just barely)Some of that is the extra commercial time, but so was NINE mid-inning pitching changes (5 NYY, 4 HOU). That, in my mind, is the biggest easily fixable culprit. Some of that goes away next year if they go through with the proposed three batter minimum. I'd prefer simply making the changes quicker rather than rule changes which dictate strategy. Eliminating the on-field warmups on top of the bullpen warmups would save probably a minute or more per change (hey, it's something). Last night two different pitchers threw more warmup tosses after they were called in (8) than they did actual pitches: Sabathia faced one batter and threw just 5 pitches, Ryan Pressley threw 3, while four others threw a dozen pitches or less. That's 48 Additional warm-up pitches thrown by six hurlers who then amassed a combined total of 52 actual pitches!Oh, and the mound visit limit seems to have gone out with the bathwater as well. I've heard no mention of it during the playoffs so far and no one seems concerned with running out of them.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2019 Posted October 14, 2019 Yeah, fuck all that, exactly.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 Houston turning to some red hot Joe Smith action trying to protect their 4-0 lead in the 8th
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2019 Author Posted October 15, 2019 Houston Astros, American heroes.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2019 Posted October 15, 2019 The Astros have now done something they failed to do in the 2017 ALCS: win a game in the Bronx. That series two years ago was entirely a home win affair with the 'stros winning games 1, 2, 6, & 7 but none of the middle three.Game 4 tomorrow is reportedly in serious danger of being washed out which would push it to Thursday and Game 5 to the scheduled off day on Friday. The series would then go straight on to Games 6 & 7 (if needed of course) in Houston over the weekend with no "travel day" break in between.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2019 Posted October 16, 2019 Game Off!!Talking heads (and maybe even us) now have 24 hours to debate whether this found day off in exchange for the final four games being in a row benefits the Stros or the Yanx
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2019 Author Posted October 17, 2019 Astros 6 MFYs 1 in the 6th inning of the 4th game of what is, tentatively speaking, a not altogether objectionable ALCS.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted October 17, 2019 Author Posted October 17, 2019 6-3. Forget I said anything.
