Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 News just breaking, no deets yet although this apparently does NOT involve Syndergaard.Stayed tuned to this station for further updates.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Author Posted July 28, 2019 Stroman is, of course, a local boy -- Patchogue-Medford HS by way of Duke U. (and he actually graduated!)Can be a FA following the 2020 seasonIs 6-11 this season although with a sub-3.00 ERA and a 1.23 WHIPWas 8th in CY voting in 2017 before having a rough 2018And he's short (5' 7")
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Hopefully the guy going back to Toronto is Cano.(Yeah... I know...)
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 I like him but he's a contact pitcher who will now have a bad defense behind him.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 The t'ing is ... has the play since the break put the message in that the Mets should be muscling up, rather than shedding parts?Or is Stroman just coming in to fill the spot of Synderwheeler when he gets dealt off?
duan Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 I've always liked Stroman so in theory I'm all up for acquiring him - WTF the context is will obviously shape what one actually thinks of the deal though.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Love Stroman! Have no idea of the return or the direction Brodie is headed onRebuild, reinforce or retool? I have no clue
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Author Posted July 28, 2019 (edited) You'd have to think that one theory has to be that he's the pre-replacement for the soon to be dealt Syndergaard or Wheeler (or both!).Another is that maybe Stroman is to be packaged with some current NYM and flipped before ever suiting up.A third is that this mini-streak has changed their thinking and they're now in Go-For-It mode. duan Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Anthony DiComo is saying “pitching prospects” - if they can actually get Stroman for Anthony Kay + more they should do that in a heart beat
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Well now the Mets have no prospects in their farm. And the only pitcher the Mets are hellbent on holding on to is a real gem, but he'll be 32 next season.
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Pitching prospects are pitching prospects. I just don't know why they are doing this

I just don't know why they are doing thisI read yesterday or the day before that the Mets might work a three way involving the Jays. Maybe this is the first leg of that.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 It takes one more starter off the market and makes those teams looking for one having to ante up more than they hoped to get one.I had read (one of the so-called experts) that the Mets were going to trade Noah and replace him with Stroman. Looks like they got their insurance policy first.Later
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Gives us some options. Gives us a very good rotation.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 I like Anthony Kay as much as I did Justin Dunn. Those are two potential studs goneKeeping Stroman and trading Cano kinda evens up this messOverall, what the eff?
Johnny Lunchbucket Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Well, most people think Kay won't be a stud, just a mid-rotation guy at best, not that's anything to sneeze at. And that requires him to still develop some offspeed stuff.Richardson is the currency in this deal but he's 18 and anything can happen.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Wow, the minor league cupboard is really getting bare now. This ups the chances of trading Noah away for a bag of beans.

Methead Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 I guess we're going for it. Textbook TITTS.For some reason it feels to me like we're selling high on Kay. And Richardson is a lotto ticket so who knows. Not that I particularly enjoy trading prospects away.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 In isolation I like the deal - I wasn't a fan of Richardson at all from anything i've read. Kay might be good, but all unproven minor leaguers MIGHT be good.I'll LOVE this trade if:-the Mets plan to start 2020 with a rotation of deGrom, Syndergaard, Stroman, Wheeler, & Matz and kick the reporter-threatening Vargas to the curb-the Mets plan to trade Wheeler, figuring that Stroman and the return for Wheeler are worth more than Wheeler and Kay/Richardson, you need to take into account the year of control here too.I'll be neutral overall if the plan is to trade Syndergaard and extend WheelerI'll be trending negative if they trade both Syndegaard and WheelerI'll be very down on this deal if they trade Syndergaard and let Wheeler walk as a FA
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 For the sake of cookies and M&Ms, let's say this is an indication that the Mets are muscling up for the remainder of the seasons, rather than stripping down. What's the rotation? Because they now have six healthy starters. Do they now still flip Vargas or Wheeler or Syndergaard (Wheelvargaarrd), only do it instead for someone who provides current value, rather than future interests?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 28, 2019 Posted July 28, 2019 Brilliant, right?Although, I don't recommend putting a toddler down for a photograph right next to an open well.
