batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 5, 2019 Posted August 5, 2019 Thanks, you're very talented. Thanks, right back atcha. What I wanted to say in the other post in this thread is to follow up on not being so concerned about the other teams, yet. I don't fret about the Mets, as you say, lost opportunity to move ahead of the DBacks the other day because that Mets loss will hurt them just the same even if the DBacks had lost on that day. I think this is all a convoluted way of really saying, "Just win, baby". I mean, to use an extreme example that still kinda makes the point, a team that loses on Opening day is behind half the teams in the league, assuming every team starts on the same day. See what I mean? So what.yeah, i'm on board with "just win", gone are the days of 100 win teams missing the playoffs with 4 divisions and no wildcard. win enough and you'll get there. it probably needs to be at least labor day before i worry about what the other clubs do every dayYeah. At some point, that NGB stuff will defniitely matter. I just don't believe we're there yet.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 (edited) Holy News flash! The Mets don't give a shit whether or not youse gave up. Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 7, 2019 Posted August 7, 2019 Good Fake Bat-VillainsThe Grandmaster: Meticulously schemes against Gotham City and Bat-Man, carefully getting all his pieces in place, anticipating several moves ahead, before swooping in for the checkmate.Cliffhanger: Batman is forced to play a game of chess against his own Bat-Computer, with himself, Robin, Commissioner Gordon and Chief O'Hara as pieces!Proposed Actors: Russell Johnson, Howard Keel. The Cereal Killer: So hopped-up on Sugar-Snaps, the Cereal Killer makes Frank Gorshin look positively somnambulent, as he poisons the breakfasts of several Gotham VIPs, threatening global stability as Gotham is about to host The World Meeting of Bankers, for whom skipping breakfast just isn't an option.Cliffhanger: Smothered in a three-story box of Toasty Oats, lined with a sealed bag, and denuded of their signature utility belts, Bat-Man and Robin's only hope of getting out before suffocating is to find the massive, secret prize and utilize it in their escape! Can they track the CK to his lair from the address on the giant proof-of-purchase seal before breakfast is served all across the city?!!Proposed Actors: Burt Lahr, Earnest Borgnine. The Vixen: Dressed like a she-fox by day, she glams herself up and goes undercover a night, seducing Gotham's wealthiest and most gullible, who find her charms irresistible. Once she has them alone, she sprays them with a hypnotic foxy-toxin, which not only renders her marks unconscious, they wake up thinking that they've had a wonderful evening, and feel irresistably compelled to send her their most prized possession as an affectionate gift. One each day until the spray wears off.Cliffhanger: After accepting a date with the mysterious and alluring Ms. Foxcroft, Bruce Wayne leaves Alfred and Robin stunned when he attempts to mail the Bat-Mobile to her hotel. This will not only cost them a key part of their arsenal, but blow their covers as well. Is Bruce bluffing, or has he gone batty?!Proposed Actors: Kim Novak, Sofia Loren (in which case, her civilian name would be "Signorina Volpe.")

batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 Diaz gave up yesterday's last coffin nail but you can still count on more Batman cards. Today's release features Flexible Flexen paying homage to Batman and your favorite baseball team in alternate releases. Which one's your fave? Ask Harry if you can't decide. Harry doesn't mind. He won't even bother to make the scene.https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48521188671_7f4c26f470_z.jpg> https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48521359437_fb16d4f713_z.jpg>
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 I like everything but the poor resolution on the player subjects.I realize virtually all the figures on the card have some sort of filter on them, so you don't want the players to contrast too much, but the low res on the card's nominal subject can hurt the overall effect.

It's an intended effect. I'm going for less detail on the players. But the effect appears exaggerated on Flexen because the original image had lighting issues (lotsa white). But I went with that image anyways because I was looking for a very vertical player photo, a straight up image -- that is, an image where the player's arms aren't extended out. I needed that orientation because the Batman stuff was wide and would take up a lot of the real estate.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 12, 2019 Posted August 12, 2019 Better, particularly the last, but my general point was about the effect across all the cards, and if there was an alternative effect to try.The ball is so blurred it makes his hand look disfigured. But I can definitely roll with the last one.

But I can definitely roll with the last one.Yeah. Only the last Flexen card had tweaks to sharpen the image a bit. I posted the other two cards (the first two Flexens) so that you could compare all of the cards in the same post. And I know all about that ball. It drove me nuts. I think it's Flexen's right hand that's really the problem with the source image. Because art imitates life. A couple of years ago, I read an article on Paul Lukas's Uniwatch website on the topic of b&w image colorizations. From time to time, Lukas would post old time baseball b&w images and invite his readers to colorize the photos. Occasionally, Lukas would run an interview with one of his colorizing contributors. In this particular interview, the reader explained how colorizing those photos requires scrutinization of every single pixel, and he then noted how, when he's colorizing, he'd always notice minute details in the subject photo that he'd never otherwise notice had be just been looking at the photo casually. So yes, I know about that ball. The problem comes mainly, from the source Flexen image. I tweaked the card again. I sharpened Flexen just a tiny bit more and I enhanced the pinstripes and skyline logo. I could make Flexen as sharp or as fuzzy as I wish. It's just the look I was going for. I also changed the background color to create more contrast around the ball. But I see your overall point about the somewhat (lack of) sharpness or detail on the players. I'm aware of it and for every card I've made, I've always fidgeted with the player, trying out different looks. But the fuzziness is intended. It was the original look I was going for. But I might make the players a bit sharper going forward because the cards have evolved. They've gotten busier, and so perhaps, the players do need a little more detail to stand out from the other stuff.Edgy Flexen (Pink)https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48546360997_c902f45034_z.jpg>Edgy Flexen v1 (Yellow)https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48521727086_c760863978_z.jpg>Original Flexenhttps://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48545521266_3f73c21630_z.jpg>
