It occurs to me, that it doesn't even matter. Even if the Mets were to win 15 in a row, grab the second WC, beat the Nats in the one game play in, the Dodgers, Cardinals and Braves would absolutely murder this bullpen in the post season.

Same, basically. I was legit mad Sunday night (when Familia sucked at CBP) for the first time all season. Earlier losses, given their hopeless context, didn't rile me up in earnest. The losing streak at home last week was more absorbing than angering.



This one took me back to a void I last truly experienced 18 Septembers ago.

No, you're totally right there. He's skewered either way, which is why managing sucks and the media suck more. I'm just saying the whole "as a closer, I can't protect a lead that isn't a save situation" thing is bullshit.

Jordan -- who you'll likely remember as a very intense player, one might even say he played with a football mentality, -- now is part of the Braves post-game

Yesterday's Abbey Road 50th Anniversary release announcement got us here at Typewriter Chewing Gum in our own 1969 50th anniversary mood. And what a year that was. Beginning with Led Zeppelin's album debut and a Jets Super Bowl victory and ending with an at their peak Rolling Stones free concert at the Altamont Raceway that was, albeit, marred by just a few minor fracases. And we've got another Batman69 insert to fill our '69 jones. (We should've saved that Jones line for the release of a Batman69 Cleon Jones card, which is coming in the future what with the Mets nailing down three all star roster spots in 1969, including Jonesie the batting title contender. We'll hafta work on our timing a bit.) And not just any old insert card, but an insert within an insert. That's right. Batman69 inserts meet our All-Star cards inserts today, as we take you back to RFK Stadium for the 1969 All-Star Game, featuring that year's big deal, Ted Williams, who put on a baseball uniform once again to manage the host city's Washington Senators, (old friend Frank Howard homered before the home town crowd in that year's mid-summer classic). It's Jerry Koosman's Batman69 All-star card. And check out the fancy embossing on this doozy. Raised bat logos and stars and lettering. We went all out and spared no expenses on this card, which, embossing wise, was inspired by the White Album cover, speaking of the Beatles. Of course, "all-star card" designation prevents us from selling that card stateside. Contracts. Test market. Latin America. Youse know the drill. Lucky youse have me, though, to give youse a sneak peek so's youse don't have to travel to Mexico to buy this baby, where in 1969, Americans took their kiddies there for family vacations and spent their honeymoons there in places like Acapulco and Cancun. Today, though, to tell you the truth, and don't tell anyone I told youse so, I don't think even Batman and Robin would wanna step foot there.

also read many of the 'expert' analysis of the 2018 postseason and you'll see plenty about how the Red Sox pen was 'not good' and going to expose them. Similar for the Astros the year before.

We've got a special Batman card just for youse. It'll go down as a historical card in our Batman Mets 2019 series. Why, youse ask? Because it's part of the base set; it's not an insert or a subset -- and yet it features no Mets player. Look high and low and all over the place -- use your Bat-o-Scope if youse wanna -- but you won't find anyone on that card who ever played for the New York Mets. How's that possible, youse wanna know, this being a Mets baseball card set as much as it's a Batman card set? It's all about Bill James's Power/Speed Number. Stay with me. The Power/Speed Number -- Bill James's harmonic mean for measuring how well a player does, collectively, at hitting home runs and stealing bases. Collectively being the operative word, because a player has to do well in both categories to score high on the Power/Speed number. Ol' friend Frank Howard could've led the AL in HR's from here to eternity, but with half the speed of Wilson Ramos and never more than one stolen base in any season, ol' Hondo wasn't gonna score much in Power/Speed. Ya gotta excel in both categories to score impressively in Power/Speed.



Now we here at Typewriter Chewing Gum are immersed in Mets history and Batman. And we got to thinking, who's got the best, the most significant connections to both the Mets and the Batman universe, with special focus on the Batman TV show that ran from 1966-1968? With emphasis on the word "both". That means no Zsa Zsa Gabor, who, despite playing the super-villainess Minerva on what turned out to be the series' final episode, couldn't care less about baseball and had no meaningful, or any real connection to the New York Mets, as far as we know. See where we're going? We're looking for someone who'd score high on the Power/Speed number for our Batman Mets cards. And we think we've found the Batman/Mets Power/Speed champ.
