It's a Labor Day skeleton crew here at Typewriter Chewing Gum, but not even that is gonna stop us from fulfilling our Makeover Monday obligations because what we lack in numbers and manpower on this National holiday, we make up for in diabolical geniusness!. And this one was a long time coming. We hated this card from the get-go --- and so did Roger Kaputnik, who's been mailing us at least a letter a week imploring us to make-over Mickey Callaway. Roger finally wore us out. We gave up, Roger. Plus there's that bundle on postage we're saving on return letters to you, Roger. So here's your new Mickey Callaway. It's a win-win all around. We save on stamps. And the Mets save a few bucks by keeping this baseball walking dead man around till season's end.

It's not that much past midnight, but still, it's Tweaky Tuesday just the same. And right on schedule, we've got a Tweaky Tuesday Batman card just for youse loyal followers, which might actually be a makeover for Makeover Monday, in which case we'd be a day late. Or six days early. Which we can't figure out. Whether we're early or late or whether the new Tomas Nido is a tweak or a makeover. But who cares? We give up. We just wanted to change that Nido which was brutal on our eyes. What were we thinking? Who knows? We give up, again. Just like we gave up when ol' Roger Kaputnik pestered us until we fixed Mickey Callaway's Batman card. And just like we gave up the day before when that Riddler poster persisted in wanting to know why anything. We simply gave up on him. We sure do a lot of giving up in this thread that's all about the Batman Mets cards that we've been making this Summer. Why do we give up so much? Beats me. We give up! Why do we give up so much?

Is that you, Fonebone? That's some Bat-coincidence because we ordinarily answer reader mail on Fonebone Friday, and today, as you know, is Tweaky Tuesday. But we'll make an exception for you and your exceptional questions, Fonebone. So first, what's with the league leader rooks? We've never heard of that. I suppose you call your rookie cards "league leader cards", Fonebone. This is so Bizarrro, we can't wrap our heads around the notion. Where did you grow up, with your Bizarro rooks for league leader cards, Metropolis? Perhaps, you'd be interested in our upcoming 2020 line of Superman Mets baseball cards? Anyways, to answer your question, yes, Typewriter Chewing Gum will release league leader cards in a future series. It's a project that's currently in development. And quite frankly, we're debating whether to produce league leaders from the 2018 season, in which case, youse'll get a whole lotta deGrom, or whether to produce league leader cards from this season, in the off-season traded/update set, in which case youse'll get a whole lotta Alonso, and probably a McNeil sighting and some deGrom. We can't decide. And we're gonna make checklists too. And we've got a diabolically fiendish plot to include some non-existing cards in our checklist so the kiddies, and the adults, like you, Fonebone, will continue to buy our Batman cards in order to obtain those impossibly elusive cards which don't exist so as to complete their sets. Haha hooohoooha. Oh boy, the Joker would love this idea. See what happens when you hang around Gotham City's super villains as much as we do? You can't go through life being a goody goody Batman all the time. Where's the fun in that. Jesus H. Christ, do you believe that Bat-lunkhead keeps on turning down the Julie Newmar Catwoman? Oh my, what I would do for that pussy .... cat! We got the fake checklist idea from the 1948-49 Leaf baseball cards, our all time favorite baseball card set. We love the imperfections of those cards, the off-register variations, the garish hand coloring of the black and white photos, all of which foreshadowed, probably unintentionally, the pop art movement that would explode onto the scene a few years later. Anyways, Leaf didn't put out a fake checklist. That would've been too brazen, though not brazen enough for us here at Typewriter Chewing Gum. No, what Leaf did was to simply not produce cards for some of the consecutive numbers assigned to the cards. So collectors kept on collecting in vain for that non-existing number nine, etc. Anyways, what say you, Fonebone? League leaders, or, excuse me while I vomit, "rooks" from the 2018 season or from this season? Team cards? We're thinking on this one. Anyways, again, thanks for your interest in Typewriter Chewing Gum, Batman and the New York Mets. And as an added bonus, we've included an All-Star card insert. They're not available here in the US of A. Maybe when the electorate comes to its senses and decides not to sit out this upcoming presidential election like they sat out the last one, the most important presidential election of their lives what with an open seat on the Supreme Court and about 100 lower court vacancies waiting to be filled -- all lifetime appointments, mind you -- and finally votes this disaster out of office, we'll make our All Star cards available here in the USA, at least in the blue states anyways.

I just found out when I checked in here just now and read your post. And I still wasnt sure what you meant so I checked the ESPN website. Holy mother! What happened? Never mind. I don't even wanna know. The Mets win probability was 99.7% after Alonso's homer.

I was wrong. It was 99.9%.(See link below). Meaning that a team in that situation wins that game 999 out of 1,000 times. Maybe more often than that, maybe a lot more often, even by orders of magnitude, depending on how many digits after the decimal you calculate for and what those digits are. I mean, it could be 999 million out of 999 million plus one, theoretically.. But let's stick with 999 out of 1,000, because that's what we know. So how often is a team up by six runs heading into the bottom of the ninth? A coupl'a times a season? Meaning a team will lose that game once every coupl'a hundred years. Meaning that the odds are that you won't ever get to see that kind of a loss in your lifetime.

Blowing a 6 run lead in the 9th. I don't even know what to say. Is batmags right? Is it really that infrequent? I feel like I saw something about another team blowing a huge lead in the ninth earlier this year.



I really think this is the worst loss I have ever seen. Not in terms of importance/ramifications etc, but in terms of soul crushing. Rally to get huge tack on runs, then boom. Implosion.



It also really makes you wonder about Diaz long term. It seems like everyone else has made some adjustments to get by with the new ball. Familia and Diaz haven't, and it looks like they won't be able to.
