Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 The funny thing is that, after O'Brien laced the first ball that Rosario caught, Rojas stopped him on the way back to the dugout to get the skinny on how to hit Wilson. He listened too well.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 I wondered if he was passing along a 'tell'.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 I've got some questions here.Familia threw 17 pitches yesterday and none on Sunday. So why wasn't he available? If Diaz and Familia were both unavailable, why was Vargas (not great, but not awful) pulled after 74 pitches?I get that Lugo is struggling and that's fine, it happens. But Mickey's bullpen management is real curious as a result.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2019 Posted April 2, 2019 I can answer one of 'em.I get that Lugo is struggling and that's fine, it happens. But Mickey's bullpen management is real curious as a result. Micky uses the pen the way I use pencils. I use pencils until they are used up.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2019 Author Posted April 3, 2019 X rays negative for Nimmo. Luckier than Trea Turner, who broke his finger bunting yesterday.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 I don't like games where it's hard to go to sleep afterwards. 5 runs in the top of the first, you're supposed to cruise after that. But nooooooo. They're 4-1, but it's an ugly 4-1.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2019 Author Posted April 3, 2019 I'm so old and tired I have not made it to the end of either of these last two games. At least a 6:10 start increases the chances that I can watch all 9 innings.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 These numbers don't help in that regard: 3:50; 3:15; 3:10; 3:23Only opening day so far (2:44 for a 2-0 game) has clocked in at under 3 hours

A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Wondering if something was wrong with Familia? Something was hurting or he was sick or something. Agree with Lefty. We feel like the shittiest 4-1 team, but at least we're 4-1.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Didn't watch. Why was Vargas pulled so early? Were they hitting him hard and it was time to get him out?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 Average number of pitches, but 8 hits thru 5 including 5 for XBs and more than a few loud outsiow, Yeah, it was time
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted April 3, 2019 Posted April 3, 2019 I just read a thing on SNY that even though Vargas was only 74 pitches, Calloway's plan was Vargas for 5, then use 3 relievers for the next 4 innings (that was a quote from him). I'm not sure why that formula was etched in stone, especially since Calloway revealed that Seth Lugo was sick last night. Shaky as Vargas was, they could've (probably should've) tried to squeeze another inning out of him, especially with Familia and Diaz unavailable/Calloway'd.
