Tributes for Reyes?

With all the attention focused -- rightfully -- on David Wright for Sunday, I just realized that it's likely Jose Reyes' last day in a Mets uniform, and perhaps any uniform.

Do you guys think there is even a slim chance he comes back next year, with the Mets or another team?

I have to think Jose gets a plaque in the Mets Hall of Fame at some point.

He may continue to play (especially if he's willing to sign a minor-league contract somewhere) but I don't imagine the Mets will bring him back on a big-league deal.

It's fascinating how their careers are starting and (probably?) ending at the same time, in the same place, and yet they took wildly divergent paths to get here.

Agree on the plaque, although it's going to take some time, and I think his domestic violence charge is 98% of the reasoning behind that.

That said, I also wouldn't be surprised to see him in camp on a minor league deal next year, nor would I be surprised to see him coaching somewhere in the system.

That, too. You can't do that at this point; that ship has sailed. If Wright had played part of the season and was winding down slowly, then maybe you could have planned it that way. (If Reyes is, in fact, done, which something tells me he thinks he isn't.) But not any more.

Reyes' status is up in the air. Once it's clarified, I'm sure there'll be some tribute. That it can't come in his apparent last official appearance as a Met is not unusual. Most goodbyes work out that way.

Over-orchestrating these moments often does more harm than good.

"No Thanks" has been my attitude towards his presence on this roster all year. He was here, or is still here, at least in part because of his "Mets Legacy" - if we're saying that legacy doesn't matter or can't be acknowledged because of the abuse charge, why is even still here?

And it's not like he as a lifelong Met, had an incident, and quietly came back to one last cameo for all the 'good times'. He's been garbage on the field for two years, but even if he hadn't he's only a Met right now because he put his wife in the hospital. His very presence on the team is because of that. He's also not necessarily retiring. It's fine if you want to have him as a token of his longtime connection with Wright, but let's be clear this is about David, not about both of them.

I'm not sure what you're talking about here. Are you saying he's only a member because Colorado released him because of the assault charge? I'd say that's why he was available. He's on the team because at that time we needed someone who could play a little third base and have even a little bit of speed.

I have no idea what the president, wealth or skin color have to do with any of it.

I think the Korean league takes this stuff more seriously than MLB. I feel like i just read a story about them voiding someone's contract for similar issues.

I think they give him the opportunity to make the 2019 club as the utility 2B/SS/3B guy, if he wants it. He's an "experienced veteran player." And so on.

I think this is the end of the line for Reyes, certainly as a Met and quite likely as a ballplayer.
He's a speed guy who's no longer the best option at SS, who will turn 36 next June and is coming off a year where he hit under .200 with a pop-up rate that seems like it was over 50%
He was a worthwhile pickup in 2016 but then less so last season and, while it would be nice to think that he had a hand in Rosario's maturing this year, if so it's about his only one.

Would have been better had he taken the field for Top 2nd then get pulled after one batter or something but, as Howard Cosell said when asked to comment on Vince Lombardi's death, "It was inevitable".
