ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 From RotoworldCallaway also said that deGrom will have an MRI on his elbow, and the results of it will be available tomorrow. We should have an idea on just how much time deGrom will miss after we find out the extent of the hyperextension -- or if there's any other damage -- but it's very unlikely that the 29-year-old isn't headed for the disabled list.OyeYe Olde MRI
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 I don't know. If we're lucky, maybe Carol will make some more of those muffins.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Kinda feels that way, hopefully it's a little deal and not a big one.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 A year almost to the day that Thor's lat exploded. Elbow injuries to pitchers are not a good thing. There's a kind of Hindenburg-approaching-the-mooring-mast feel about this. Hope this training staff knows how to read MRI's.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 I’m thinking he shouldn’t have cut his hair.
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Definitely bad BUT hyperextended elbows are not a common baseball injury, are they? Unless he ripped tendons while this happened, I'm hopeful he's back in a few weeks. And I'm not an optimist about anything.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Travis d'Arnaud had a hyperextended elbow in 2015 and was out for 5 weeks. That doesn't quite compare to a pitcher throwing 96 MPH, but there you go.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Missing four starts says twitter. MRI clean.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Um. NVM. Now he might make his next start.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 If it really only amounts to 4 starts, I guess it's not the end of the world.Besides, we have Matz and Harvey and... oh, wait...

Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 It's not me!Kristie Ackert posted a report saying minimum 4 starts. Now the Mets are holding a press conference saying he will prepare for his next start.Communication!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 His next start? Wow. Even if he seems ready, I think I'd have him skip at least one start just for the sake of extra caution.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Beat writers saying the amputation went well and his new robot arm should have him back on the mound by June 2020 at the latest.

nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 They dont know what they are doing, but I hope it works out
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 If it does, the team needs to hyperextend deGrom's contract.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 They have to be aware that if they let Jacob make his next start, and as a result he makes the injury worse and it's his last start of the season, they'll face a shitstorm like few they've ever seen before. Now, I know that these likely aren't the same people who kept putting Ryan Church on plane after plane after he suffered a concussion, but I also can't help but think about that.I'm not convinced that the Mets don't know what they're doing, nor am I confident that they do.

Miss a start. DL him now and get the extra arm in here. This should not even be a consideration.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 Maybe, but would they be doing that to protect deGrom's elbow, or protect they ass?
Chad ochoseis Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 They're not sure. They can't tell ass from elbow.I may be the first Mets fan in history to say this, but I'm trusting the doctors. If they say he can go Monday, let him go Monday.
Centerfield Old-Timey Member Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 They should do it because it's the right thing to do. If doing the right thing is considered covering your ass, then sure. That next start is against the Reds. Hopefully they can get by without him. The DL is 10 days. Put him on there, protect him against himself, and get a fresh arm for the pen. Remember, Jake is the one that declared himself fit to go back and pitch the 4th inning. Love the guy, but maybe you tell him to cool off for a bit.DeGrom, 29, sustained the injury on a swing-and-miss in the third inning of Wednesday’s 7-0 loss to the Braves. He told Callaway and pitching coach Dave Eiland of the discomfort, but felt he could continue to pitch. He has felt similar pain after previous swings this season, and it hasn’t effected his pitching. This time, he felt pain in the biceps, and was pulled after the fourth inning with his ERA down to 1.87 after four shutout frames. So, he's clearly swinging wrong. And if this happens, you tell the guy to go up and take until the elbow is completely healed.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted May 3, 2018 Posted May 3, 2018 I'm over here at Camp Missastart, I'll post pics on fb later.
