Matt Harvey traveled from SD to LA to party the night before he gave up a leadoff HR in mop up duty.

According to Ian Mohr of Page Six, Harvey was at the Avra Beverly Hills opening Thursday night, and while one source said he was sober, another said he was "out at the Avra opening stumbling around." The second person added the pitcher "had to sit down at one point. He must have been so desperate to party, he came up from San Diego."

Well one party goer said he was staggering around and another says he was sober so what is real?

Just the fact that he hauled all the way up there for purposes of going to some shit-ass club tells me all I need to know.

Thursday was get-away day. So if the Mets flew into LAX that night, it sounds less stupid. Hang out in LA Thursday night, drive down to San Diego on Friday. Now if they flew into San Diego and he drove 4 hours back to Beverly Hills...

This thing says the Mets traveled from STL to San Diego, not LAX. So if that's correct, first pitch on get-away day in STL was 12:17 local time and time of game was 4 hours, 11 minutes. They prob don't get out of STL til 6pm at the earliest. Flight from STL to SD is 4 hours, so they arrive, say 8, 8:30, local time after gaining 2 hours. If he gets a car right away and has zero traffic, he arrives in Beverly Hills around 11pm.

Matt Harvey, folks.

they're just citing the schedule. We don't know if the Mets had a layover in LAX, or if Harvey simply took a different flight, as he's done before.

Another version of that story reports that it was a celebrity studded event and that nobody knew who Harvey was. (Except, I suppose, the two people who reported Harvey as sober or sit down shaky).

A flight from STL to SD is 4 hours. Doesn't sound like an LAX layover, which wouldn't make any sense anyway. Matt Harvey, folks!

It's also possible that both accounts can be true.

As I understand how this works, someone can be sober at one point and then, later, be drunk.

truly?

I'm going to need to do some research.

My feelings on this:

*partying during your own time is every ball player's prerogative. Probably a ton of guys do stuff like this and it never gets reported
*but partying like this certainly doesn't give the impression that the ballplayer is trying his hardest. Even though he might be. So you understand if fans are upset
*I don't get the feeling Matt Harvey is trying his hardest.

If that's true, imagine the effort he'll put in next season, when he's not in his free agent walk year.

Completely agree. And I would wager that Matt Harvey was not the only Met going out or having a cocktail after they arrived on the west coast. But if he drove 3+ hours (one way!) after a 4-hour flight, it surely makes it look like being good at baseball is #1 on his priorities list. If he did take a separate flight (like Ceets guessed) so he could party down in Beverly Hills instead of going with the team to SD, well that looks even shittier to me.

Usually I get upset if a report is unexpected. So I guess the short answer is no.

May or may not be word for word.

Yes, but then that'll be the Long Island Ducks' problem, not ours.

That's an actual Sandy quote reported by Puma. Makes me think Sandy already knew about the report or he's not in any way shocked that Harvey would go off and do shit like this.

Absolutely. I mean, we're not shocked. And presumably Sandy knows him better.
