  1. Unacceptable. Epic failure.

  4. I wonder how much of this is "we need to talk about SOMETHING" rather than actual news. Ding! Ding! Ding!
  5. =ashie62 post_id=86200 time=1645714993 user_id=90] Marcus Stroman tweeting today that he hopes Conforto will sign for a team other than the Mets It is an anti Mets and Billy Eppler rant. The Mets signed our paycheck. What an ungracious jackass.
  6. I don't know what his market would be after last year. Not sure which team out there will throw him the long-term deal he is looking for. But if the Mets can get him, it would be great!
  7. Seeing stories that, given the expected frenzy to sign players when this deal is done, Conforto might be better off taking a short deal with the Mets to take a season to rebound, then hit the market when conditions are more favorable and there's time to let a deal develop. Are the Mets even looking for an outfielder at this point? Would the team even want a one-year, $25 million deal with him? Does Conforto have a shot at a $100 million+ deal elsewhere in that frenzy? https://www.sny.tv/articles/mets-michael-conforto-reunionhttps://www.sny.tv/articles/mets-michael-conforto-reunion
  8. That's fantastic!! Excellent work!
  9. One of the highlights of the year! You do a great job with the unveiling!
  10. Got my first pack today. Impressive how Topps PhotoShopped Guardians uniforms on the Cleveland players. A long way from those 1977 Blue Jays and Mariners! https://beckett-www.s3.amazonaws.com/news/news-content/uploads/2022/02/2022-Topps-Series-1-Baseball-Variations-21-Shane-Bieber.jpg> https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/61x31oZhcTL._AC_SL1000_.jpg> https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/71-WTSwebRL._AC_SY445_.jpg>

Would make for a cool poster.

Whatever the Mets source gave him was probably officially off the record, but it's still information you can follow up on. I am certainly sympathetic to the idea that it's a "private matter," but when it's a public figure and you have information about an illegal matter that is affecting his public performance of a job people have an investment in, that can change. I don't know at what point it changes, but presumably, there's something like an authoritative journalistic playbook that clarifies that. Anyhow, it's certainly something I'm curious about. Had he reported about it at the time, getting it out there might have forced changes that saved Harvey's career. I don't know of drug use contributed to his arm and chest issues, but they sure aren't good for you. Seems odd that reporters will go to the mat to beat the truth out of people about if Lindor and McNeill were really looking at a raccoon when they were obviously fighting, but not about something like this.

I'm guessing this isn't getting settled anytime soon if that's where the owner's are at. I don't think players have ever been paid for spring training. I'm not saying that's a good thing. The pay and accommodations for minor league players is appalling and needs to be improved dramatically. But I don't think this is anything new.
  14. Chad ochoseis wrote: I'm too lazy to consult a box score, but I don't think he hits on the days he pitches. I think the rule is that once he leaves the game, the relievers would also have to hit (or be PHed for). I've been resigned to this inevitability for a while. Probably good for the Mets who, if their players can play to their career numbers and not their 2021 numbers, have more good hitters than places to put them. And I'm glad that after 50 years the AL and NL play by the same rules again. Now get rid of the Manfred Man in extra innings, OK? Loving calling the runner the Manfred Mann!
  15. Edgy MD wrote: Now the Mets can potentially hit worse on the days deGrom pitches, with his bat out of the lineup. I never thought about this, but does Othani get a DH on the days he pitches, or does he hit like in his other games?
  16. Ken Davidoff leaving the Post as of the end of the month. Reading between the lines, it doesn't sound like it was his decision. https://newyorkmets.medium.com/wishing-ken-davidoff-the-best-b3562dc144fchttps://newyorkmets.medium.com/wishing-ken-davidoff-the-best-b3562dc144fc
  17. Lefty Specialist wrote: I know the ship has probably sailed, but the minute MLB signed a contract for sports betting, Rose should have immediately been inducted into the Hall of Fame. Because now there's no reason not to. I think the distinction would be that Rose allegedly was betting on the outcome of games he was participating in as a manager, and, in theory, could then influence the game based on his wagering. Suspecting that will still be illegal even as the leagues are all the way in bed with the books. (Personally, I think Rose should have been treated for what appears to be an addiction, and a year suspension with therapy and ongoing counseling would have been better for him and the sport. I also have no idea whether he would have even agreed to that.) I also think he should be eligible for the hall.
  18. The only big name joining the conversation next year is Carlos Beltran, so there sure would seem like opportunities for Rolen, Wagner, Jones and Helton to move up a bit. The following year has Adrian Beltre and Joe Mauer. As an aside, 2024 also has some nice Metly connections: Wright, Reyes and Colon and the bastard Chase Utley. It's a shame Howard fell off so quickly. Seems like he got lost in the shuffle and deserved a little longer look.
  19. Thinking about it, if Kershaw is looking for a one-year deal, doesn't mind being the No. 3 starter and wants to chase a ring, I can see why the Mets might want him. But I also have a hard time believing the Dodgers would let him walk away.
  20. Bleacher Report says the Mets are a No. 2 landing spot for the increasingly injured future Hall of Famer. Andy Martino says he doesn't think that's the case. https://www.sny.tv/articles/what-about-clayton-kershaw-mets-rumors-2022https://www.sny.tv/articles/what-about-clayton-kershaw-mets-rumors-2022
  21. Enjoying the irony that some writers two years ago said Jeter deserved to the elected alone because he was so special. Jeter denied that honor, but a Red Sox player with possible taint gets it instead. Seems like the writers punted here, leaving the committees to make the ultimate decision.
  22. I've read that the leagues expect gambling to be the next big revenue stream, and there will soon be seats with tablets there so you can bet on the game as it is going -- next home run, stolen base....whatever. I get that some people love it. It's not my thing. I played the penny slots on a cruise once. Played a dollar's worth, got my winnings up to $1.50 and cashed out while still ahead. It's heartbreaking to see people lining up to buy lottery tickets when you know they should be using it to buy groceries. I remember years ago when Sports Illustrated did a deep dive at what were then common ads with professional "touts" offering to give you their best picks for a fee. Of course it was all a scam. But I can see that rearing its ugly head again. I just don't see how anything good can ever come out of this.
  23. Mark Purdy, retired sports columnist for the Mercury News/Bay Area News Group, casts his ballot checking the box for just one player: Billy Wagner. Paul Sullivan of the Chicago Tribune votes for just three: Mark Buehrle (?), Todd Helton and David Ortiz. Juan Vene of JuanVene.com also picks three: His column referenced the ballot only with: I voted for the 2022 Hall of Fame, for Scott Rolen, Andy Pettitte and Billy Wagner... I'll leave it there! I'm starting to think maybe the Veterans Committee isn't so bad after all.
  24. Edgy MD wrote: I don't want to diminish Bruce Sutter's work as a Cardinal. He won a World Series with them, and closed out Game Seven, but Sutter the Cub was a force of nature. It was with them that he won the Cy Young Award. He didn't even flee as a free agent, but was traded for Leon Durham plus. Did he leave bad blood behind? Good call! The Cubs have not retired many numbers despite 100-plus years of history. Ron Santo's number 10, Ernie Banks' number 14, Ryne Sandberg's number 23, Billy Williams' number 26, and the number 31, shared by Fergie Jenkins and Greg Maddux. Meanwhile, Lee Smith and Gabby Hartnett are in the Hall as Cubs. Dawson is in the Hall as an Expo, but you can make a case for Cub honors.
