  1. The Honorable Bobby Valentine!
  2. Joel Sherman sure does seem to think we should be, with some kinda sorta disclaimers mixed in there. https://nypost.com/2021/10/18/jeff-luhnow-a-risky-potential-mets-option-with-others-declining/https://nypost.com/2021/10/18/jeff-luhnow-a-risky-potential-mets-option-with-others-declining/ I'd rather keep looking. It sounds like the Astros won games but had a horrible culture, even if you take out the cheating.
  3. Was Tom Veryzer a correct guess?
  4. Milkman's bonus question: Which year's draft has thus far produced the first round that has included the most future Mets? Bonus question answer: I'm going to guess 1974. Those bad late 1970s and early 1980s Mets teams were filled with last chances and "take-a-flyer" guys, and it seems like players drafted in the early 1970s would have progressed and been given up on by the later years.
  5. Some of us start early. MMM is one of those, and THAT IS CORRECT FOR THREE POINTS! Your Marshmallow Milkshake Bonus Question: How many times did Ron Darling pinch-run in his career? I am going to guess 12 times. (This is not scientific. it was his uniform number and his first number, 44, is too high.) My next guess: Tom Veryzer!
  6. Didn't Theo hire both Jared Porter and Zack Scott in their prior roles?
  7. Frayed Knot wrote: Wow-zers!!! Cole pulled after 2+ IPs (12 batters faced, six retired) Preemptive genius by Boone or job-insecure panic? I suspect they are paying Cole $300 million for exactly these kinds of games. And they were hoping to get more out of him than three innings!!

  10. Edgy MD wrote: Beltran isn't being punished. He's just not employed as a major league manager. I understand. My point was that the punishment was being fired, and the other uniformed people who lost their jobs are back in the same role, albeit one with a new team. I'm not advocating for Beltran, nor do I think he'd be a serious consideration.
  11. Tim Britton had some interesting comments on The Athletic's Mets podcast. He said fans will forever hate the manager. When the team is losing it's is his fault, and when winning, he's just a "button-pusher." He had some Simpsons quote along those lines. He said one of the questions you have to ask is who else is out there on the market who you think would be better? Beltran, part 2? He's the only uniformed person still being de facto punished, with Hinch and Cora getting jobs after missing a 60-game season. I'd like to see how Rojas would do in a season where he didn't lose most of his players to injuries, or didn't have to work with three different general managers. Maybe a one-year deal to give the team a little stability while it hires a new POBO and GM, and let's them decide if they want their own guy in there.
  12. Baez sure does flash leather. That was awesome. Bottom 6 and not a lot of time. Get some runs!
  13. cite your sources please re: HR lady. https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2021/06/21/mets-fire-2-high-ranking-employees-after-workplace-review/46376195/https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2021/06/21/mets-fire-2-high-ranking-employees-after-workplace-review/46376195/ NEW YORK (AP) — The New York Mets have fired two high-ranking employees and will overhaul their legal and human resources departments on the recommendation of independent investigators hired to review the organization following allegations of sexual misconduct against former manager Mickey Callaway. Callaway, fired in October of 2019 for on-field performance, was banned by Major League Baseball through at least 2022 in May following allegations of inappropriate behavior toward several women who work in sports media, including from his time with the Mets. First-year New York owner Steve Cohen hired law firm WilmerHale in March to review the organization and detailed changes he'll make in an email to employees Monday, saying he wanted “to ensure that our community and culture will always be safe, respectful, and inclusive." The email was obtained by The Associated Press. Executive vice president and chief legal officer David Cohen — no relation to the owner — and senior vice president for human resources and diversity Holly Lindvall will both be let go as Steve Cohen rebuilds the legal and HR departments. David Cohen has been with the Mets since 1995 and Lindvall since 2010. Both will remain with the team during “a transition period,” Cohen wrote.
  14. Did Sandy ever say he was aware of Porter's or Mickey's abuses and hired them anyway? I don't think I've seen that anywhere. They sure did fire Porter quickly when the news was reported. If the Mets checked references and the former employers were aware of this and said nothing, the Mets have a gripe. Clearly MLB as a whole needs to do a better job of stopping this kind of behavior in the first place. We haven't even received confirmation that the Mets no longer employ the offender or the HR lady, Are you saying that the team announced the firings, then secretly not fire them?
  15. =kcmets post_id=78713 time=1632787260 user_id=53] Sure! I listened to it twice today.
  16. Didn't Theo hire both Jared Porter and Zack Scott during his previous gigs?

Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: =Marshmallowmilkshake post_id=78075 time=1631904396 user_id=119] Cohen's response turned what would have been a one-day issue in a Puma column into a multi-day issue with other outlets covering it. I can definitely see how that might give a potential executive pause. He should have ignored it. Rookie mistake, and I hope he is learning from these. I don't have a problem with Puma writing the column, but I do think he and his sports opinion brethren grossly overuse anonymous sources. It would have been a stronger, more credible column with someone talking on the record. The team's not going to say who it has in mind if those potential targets are working somewhere else at the present time. It wasn't an opinion column! Jeez louise.

  19. but you wouldn't be able to isolate out the noise and randomness of year to year changes anyway. And people take all sorts of things that have no benefit, or only a perceived benefit, or a placebo effect. It's not like "take shot, be able to identify sliders 10% more accurately!" It's also an arbitrary list. Would Cano have gotten the same benefit from taking something over the counter? Lacking convincing evidence that anything he did was inflating his ability to such a degree that he's basically me in 2022, there's zero reason not to have him on the roster at least to start. Oh no, he took a drug from an arbitrary list of banned substances. It's all just PR nonsense. I don't know why anyone cares about that. Can he help the team win? Let's find out. I'm not sure I'm following. Are actually saying the banned substance list of performance-enhancing drugs was created arbitrarily, and that these drugs have no real effect on a player's abilities, other than giving them more confidence?
  20. =Ceetar post_id=77824 time=1631711163 user_id=102] please, they're all juicing.
  21. =Ceetar post_id=77820 time=1631706615 user_id=102] except for like, a slow start to 2019 he's been AT LEAST 12% better than average every season since 2008!, and usually much better. And while he hasn't been facing major league hitting, he HAS been playing baseball. He's not going to get in because #bbwaa and missing time here, but his bat is HoF caliber. Maybe it'll have dropped off, but damn, I need to see it drop off before I throw more money after Javy.
