  3. The awards are spread out over a week so there is a steady stream of baseball news into November. If I recall, these are presented by the Baseball Writers Association of America, not MLB. They like having things to write about during a slow time, rather than one huge story with all the awards in them. The lesser awards don't get as overshadowed by the bigger ones when they have a day to themselves. MLB doesn't want any non-World Series news to detract from the World Series. Teams aren't supposed to announce anything during that time. I'm fine with all this. Keeps good baseball discussions going.
  4. I was at his aborted St. Lucie start this year. Was able to see both Jake and Syndergaard making rehab starts during the same Florida visit -- which also included the 12-inning Replacemets win over the Marlins.

  6. Luis Rojas headed across town to the least of the lesser threads to coach third base.
  7. I need to get second pace back! Rico Brogna!
  8. Yay Boras, go get 'em boy! *rolleyes* I'm not saying, "Yey, Boras." Just think you're throwing shade at the wrong party.
  9. =kcmets post_id=80804 time=1636416868 user_id=53] Good luck to him, and I hope Boras painfully stubs both toes tonight.
  10. =seawolf17 post_id=80740 time=1636284829 user_id=91] Pierce and Maris are the only ones I really quibble with, and maybe Murtaugh because I never quite know how to evaluate managers. But the other seven all make logical sense. But I'm definitely a Big Hall proponent.

  12. Congrats to the Braves. I can go back to disliking them tomorrow.

Incorrect Guesses on This Question So Far None I am going to go with Mercury because it is closest to the sun, and the Mets will play there some day, which might cool it off for a little bit. My next guess: Francisco Lindor!
  15. 12: Nancy Seaver, who while technically a Met wife, was so much more! Joan Payson - deserving of a statue.
  16. Edgy MD wrote: [th]Bonus Question for Marshmallowmilkshake[/th] Name two hockey Hall of Famers drafted behind Tom Glavine in the NHL draft in 1984? The Golden Brett Hull and Luc Robitalle! Next drafter guess: John Candelaria

It's to generate buzz, give teams something to use to promote their players. Gives the writers in the 28 cities not covering the World Series something to write about. It works!
  18. Zero. I usually watch games on my MLB app but postseason games are't shown there. So I check the score a couple times during the night.
  19. Edgy MD wrote: Wait ... did you earn a second swipe at that question? I'm not sure you did. DOH! I didn't realize we had to earn those. Pat Tabler!

Your bonus question: How many players drafted in the first round by the Mets retired without ever playing for them? Making some assumptions here, I'm guessing you are saying guys who went to the minors but didn't get to the majors with the Mets, as opposed to guys like Kumar Rocker, who didn't play at all in the Mets system --which would be a trick question. So, in 56 years, knowing most of these guys with the Mets don't make it, I'm guessing 30 of the 56. Well, Kumar didn't retire, so we're really looking for first rounders who (a) failed to graduate from the minors, or ( graduated from the minors only after moving on to another organization. Guessing 30 is coming in high. Nonetheless, keep in mind that the Mets have had more than 56 first-round draft picks, garnering multiple picks in some years.

  22. Have to go with National League allegiance on this one. But I don't love it. If they wore an 1974 Aaron-era throwback for a game, that would be a thing. https://content.sportslogos.net/news/2014/04/Atlanta-Braves-1974-Throwbacks-2014-3.jpg>
  23. Lots of reports that former Giants GM Brian Sabean is the latest Mets POBO target. Did win a bunch of championships.
