    My institution is exploring getting a mascot, and we have a name that does not lend itself to anything good. So I reached out to a design shop for some advice, and spent about 90 minutes talking to a designer who has worked with many minor league teams, some major league teams and a ton of others. We bonded over being Long Islanders and he was very generous with his time. He held out the Scranton logo -- not just the cap, but the whole makeover -- as an example of what NOT to do. He said there were two popular potential names, and rather than picking one, the team and whomever it hired for this opted to try to use them both. The finalists were RailRiders and Porcupines, and the logo became a porcupine that doesn't look much like a porcupine riding the rails as if it were a train.     I don't have a problem recognizing Casey for his off-the-field role. I think he might have been more of a figurehead than actual manager. He was the face of the franchise and his injury was surely not the way anyone wanted him to go out. I have no problem with Carter and Gooden being honored in that way.

    I think having Max is good for him. I'm on Team Healthy Jake and think he's going to have a monster year. 18 wins (which counts as monster year these days) with an ERA below 2.00 and top three Cy Young.

    I kind of like them. Nice that they stayed away from government-related things. But not being in Washington, I don't know the answer to this: How long are the cherry trees in bloom? Are they still blooming when the season starts? I still like the Marlins look best, followed by the White Sox and Cubs. The Dodgers look terrible. There are lot of things they could have done with LA and California, or even with a Latino theme. Doesn't seem original to put "Los" in front of Dodgers when teams around the country already do that to celebrate that culture. Missed opportunity.
