And who knows how Petit will turn out. Omar blew this one big time. I'm getting more and more convinced that this is Bret Q in disguise. So the only knock on Delgado is that he didn't want to play in New York last year? I'll take it. Who knows how Petit will turn out? Um, that's why they're trading him. I like Jacobs too, but two months does not a career make. I love arguing. Posts like this make it easy. _____________________________ AN ALMIGHTY 119) KEVIN ELSTER POST
  2. sharpie wrote: Also means that we prolly won't be in the Manny hunt. I don't know why not. Delgado came relatively cheaply if the Marlins are taking seven million of the top. ]Now the next act is Delgado double-talking his way out of the closest-to-winning-a-pennant" and Omar-thought-I'd-sign-'cuz-he-spoke-Spanish comments. That's easy: "I thought the Marlins were in the best place to win last year. Obviously, now that they are reducing payroll, that is no longer true. I'm happy to be a New York Met and put on the royal blue pinstripes and all the history that comes with that." _____________________________ AN ALMIGHTY 119) KEVIN ELSTER POST
  3. Wow indeed. That happened fast. I'm sorry to see Jacobs go, but I am getting to be pretty firmly entrenched in the TITTS point of view. It would've been nice to see if he could catch. _____________________________ AN ALMIGHTY 119) KEVIN ELSTER POST
  4. ]"Hey Mando, why don't you tell Billy what it's like to be a top of the line closer on championship Mets team..." "Hey Schmitty, what's it like to be the greatest third baseman of all time and get booed?" Gimme a break. There are asshole fans in every town. OE: I will only be posting another 19 posts. (much to everyone's delight I'm sure) _____________________________ AN ALMIGHTY 119) KEVIN ELSTER POST
  5. I am happy with Wagner though. He's one of the better closers out there. Little man throws GAS. _____________________________ This was Elster88's last post with the designation of a character from Super Mario Bros.
  6. ]"They're not just trying to put a competitive team on the field, they're going to put a winning team on this field," Wagner said. Once, just once, before I die, I want a ballplayer to drop the bullshit and give me something along the lines of Cuba Gooding, Jr's thoughts from Jerry Maguire. Just last week Wagner was saying how impressed he was with Philadelphia's committment to building a better team and improving their staff and blah, blah, blah. STFU and sign a contract. BTW, I think BJ Ryan >> Wagner from a who-should-we-sign view.
  7. The Sports Guy provides his usual amusing take.
  8. How many times do I fucking have to tell you. MATSUI SUCKS DAMMIT
  9. There is the possiblility that the actual claim the newspaper makes has no basis in reality. Don't tell Healey I said that.
  10. 62 cracks the 5,000 post barrier.
  11. I think paying for Insider is as big a pain as everyone else, and I happily post things once in a while. But regularly posting such content is the best way to go looking for trouble on the web.
  12. sharpie wrote: Ortiz was the one who last year said that Pedro "wasn't going to no Mets." Aha!! He's smarter than all of us. By using the double negative he meant that Pedro was in fact going to the Mets. A tricky genius, that one.
  13. I love it when ballplayers make statements that are by no means sure to come true.
  14. It's nice to know that one of the major gains for management has just been thrown out that window. Maybe all that work they did really was just a way to punish the Yanks.
  15. I don't get it. Why not build the team around Cabrera, Willis, AND Beckett? And some people thought the Met ownership was tough to deal with.
  16. Rented and watched the Verdict. Three thumbs up. I like Newman. Does he belong in the still alive thread? He has to be getting up there.
  17. ]Finally, for the 6' 6" 228 lb. addiction-recovering athlete in your life, here's a suit tailor-made for Straw Did you edit to include this after I posted my comment? I'm hoping so, otherwise I need to take some remedial reading comprehension classes.
  18. I'm guessing there are few people out there who would fit that thing. 6' 6" and skinny as a rail despite how jacked he was? Not that the people who buy it would probably wear it or anything.
  19. Johnny Dickshot wrote: Just an observation, but Castillo to me is starting to resemble the latter-day Luis Sojo and Carlos Baerga around the midsection. Fonzie too.
  20. Edgy DC wrote: I didn't think he was a good choice, feeling that he Mets needed a power-hitting outfielder/firstbaseman on the bench (Valent or Daubach, perhaps)but, on the other hand, his performance in the role of "excellent teammate" is hard to measure, so I'm left with little to indict Randolph with. I'm glad he didn't play Williams very much. I didn't like Williams as a choice either, but I think either Valent or Daubach would have been a train wreck starting in center (as would Diaz or the Clifftster if we had put Valent or Dauback in left or right)
  21. mlbaseballtalk wrote: ="Elster88"](Some would have you believe otherwise, but one game out of the wildcard in the last week in August counts as being in the playoff race.) Okay, who be Asshead? That was a very mean name, which I'm not sure why I used, for a poster who doesn't post here much anymore. I don't actually think he is an asshead, just a cantkerous fellow who enjoys causing dissension, no matter how ludicrous his arguments sometimes get. I will remove Asshead from the post.
  22. ="Edgy DC"]]...with 2 GGs in his trophy case... He was and probably is a wonderful centerfielder, but that, too, was two years ago and centefielders have an advantage in Gold Glove acquisition and he's since suffered a calamitous injury that has cast his defensive future under something aof a cloud. Gold Gloves are a mess. Three calamitous injuries since August 2004, by my count. That said, he played magnificently in right field up to breaking his face, so the first two at least didn't seem to impair his fielding.
  23. Looks like this didn't work out as well as hoped. :-( I think most of this stuff is lost for all time.
  24. ]And next year, he has the potential to be 28. Potential? I guess he might die and not realize that potential.
