1. ]. In fact, hes swearing at home plate umpire Terry Cooney - and if his post-game denial that he remembers any of it is correct, he may be doing so in a trance-like state. Cooney ejects Clemens, who makes contact with at least two other umpires during the subsequent argument. Two words: 'Roid Rage
2. ="Frayed Knot"]"It's not my money" No, but it's the team's money which is, of course, what we're talking about here. On a base level I don't care what kind if money these guys make ... except that a contract that size simply has to affect what other moves can be made - and the fact that the team that already has that contract (and is virtually printing money up there) has decided on several occasions that having the $20mil/per is better than having him. 29 other teams came to that same conclusion when he was offered on waivers 2 years back. Yeah. Maybe with only three years left though the Mets will change their mind. If we can get him at around 15 mil. per year I think it would work. Replaces Piazza's contract and there is still enough left to do some things.
3. Baez and one of the free agents would make our bullpen pretty disgusting. And if we trade one or two of the starters then Heilman gets a shot. Edit: This is a proud day for me. My first post as Ray Knight. _____________________________ This post had the designation 126) Ray Knight
4. ]This year's numbers -- .260 batting average, 26 doubles, 22 homers, 70 runs scored, 92 RBI in 575 AB -- not great. Better than anything we've had at first for a pretty long time. ]Better than Jacobs for 575 AB? Maybe not. On the other hand, maybe so. ]Probably worse defensively than Jacobs. I'll admit to ignorance on his defensive skills. How can we know one way or the other without seeing more of him, and more of Jacobs? Did you really watch a lot of Tampa's games this year? ] Discount the RBI numbers since he was in AL and had a team of rabbits ahead of him. He played for the Devil Rays, and you want to discount RBI totals? If anything, increase them. ] I'm not jumping to trade good prospects in order to get this guy as an "upgrade" at 1B. I'm all for giving Jacobs a shot. But if you can get a proven hitter, and keep Jacobs' in the system, there's nothing wrong with that.

7. Frayed Knot wrote: Maybe that he's already overpaid It's not my money ]- and that he's not going to suddenly start getting better at age 34 He doesn't need to get better, just stay roughly the same or decline only slightly. ]- and that his defense - oh yes it IS that bad - will pop up even more as he goes from the smallest LF in baseball to one of the larger ones True enough. But he's not the worst outfielder ever. I've seen him make nice plays from time to time. ]- and that we don't have the luxury of the DH to hide him I don't think Boston DH'ed him either. ]- and that he considers running out hits and grounders as something to do only on an occasional basis This is of course not unique to Manny. I agree with seawolf. I like bats. Our offense needs a big bat.
8. Nymr83 wrote: so the writers didn't look away from the wins column? Clemens had a historically good season. 153, 151, 221, 141 are the ERA+ scores of the top 4, which do YOU think had the best year, this isn't even close. btw, this was the 16th highest ERA+ of all time and i have a strong feeling those 2 votes came from Houston writers.....this man was ROBBED. FUCK CLEMENS.
9. ="Johnny Dickshot"]The Mo Vaughn HR was just stupid. It wasn't in the air as much as it was in the sky. It was so high it was startling, especially for a crowd that had been lulled into depression by the innings before it. In fact, only the truly tortured of us were around to see it. I was at that game. I know it's not humanly possible, but to me it looked like it was still going up when it hit the sign.
10. Welcome aboardick. RMPL.
11. MFS62 wrote: So he's learning English? So what if he doesn't speak it well? Neither did Casey Stengel and Yogi Berra. How many words does he have to learn? one -fastball two - curve three - slider four - change brushback cut (the ball off on a throw coming home) mine (on a bunt or popup) and get the ball over the #%&% plate. He should be able to get those down by spring training I think there's more to it than that. The communication between pitcher and catcher is more important than any other two positions on the field. But, since a non-English-speaking pitcher has worked with an English-speaking catcher, I'm guessing the reverse could work too.
12. ="Centerfield"] KNICKS WIN Larry Brown cites outscoring other team as key to victory This made me laugh hard.
13. Zvon wrote: You guys can use all the math and strut all the stats you want. I feel we need a pitcher who can throw out runners a good pecentage of the time, field well overall and handle our pitching staff. Feelings don't mean shit 95% of the time. Sorry.
14. 86-Dreamer wrote: i voted other. Furcal as 2B and leadoff hitter intrigues me. i also wonder if Nomar could be a bargain addition for 1B and/or 2B. Before you stop laughing, consider i am only interested in Nomar for 1 yr deal. I see no reason to think Nomar would be of any use next year. What in his recent history makes you think he would be a good addition for even half of next year?
15. The Last Shot by Darcy Frey.An easy read and very interesting. Very sad too. I recommend.http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0618446710/103-1791422-4047062?v=glance&n=283155&n=507846&s=books&v=glance

18. That's all well and good. It would still be nice to be hearing Met-related playoff discussion, even one as assinine as the one you describe.
19. He was hurt, yes. But he doesn't weigh 350 lbs., either. Why all the hate? A slugging lefty first baseman? Hmmmm.... Staying away from Thome because of Mo was like when Fred got gunshy after Mo/Burnitz/Alomar and refused to go after Vlad. Speaking of Vladdy Daddy, how does everyone feel about his back these days? (No, I will not get over it.)

Nymr83 wrote: as far as WFAN in general goes i love Summers and Beningo, though i hate that they put him in the late morning/early afternoon asnd with sidiot, he was much better solo and he was the guy you wanted to hear sunday night after a jet loss. You're not up to date on your WFAN programming.
21. I didn't remember that other thread at all until reading it. Weird.
22. I'm wondering whose employees they were.
23. Francessa knows a thing or three.
