  1. Vic I want to have your babies.

He must have had a miserable childhood, never letting his imagination run free or allowing any fun into his life. I don't know anything about him, but that seems like the description of someone who wouldn't like this movie. Not that it was the greatest thing ever, but I don't get this review. The movie was a really good time, as the other 99% of reviews indicate.
  3. Edgy MD wrote: With the Han analog from this film, Poe Dameron, all you know about him is that he's a hotshot pilot. And that we have to learn through a quick force-feeding, when he's called the resistance's "best pilot" in the crawl, and him boasting "I can fly anything" as he kicks into action. Bam, I’m supposed to care about this guy? He's the fifth most important character in the story, so no, you're not supposed to overly care about him. The story was busy developing the other characters. And it developed them well. And calling him a Han analog is a silly, gross oversimplification.
  4. Added a poll. It's getting pretty much universal acclaim. I really liked it. I'm pretty sure it was better than Jedi but still too early to tell for sure. Might be up there with the first movie, but probably not going to beat Empire for me.
  5. Edgy MD wrote: Freddy kinda dug his own grave though. He had a chance to show some heart during Daniel's fight at the beach and then at soccer tryouts. His crew gave him this "That guy's a loser, just leave him there to bleed" attitude, and Freddy turned away with them. Peer pressure. Still, one might expect an official closing of that circle, either through a reconciliation or a "You weren't THERE for me, Freddy!" outburst from Daniel. Freddy was there rubbing Daniel san's head and high fiving him after the tourney. Bandwagoners

  7. I really liked this. I went at the end of it's theater run because of all the "underrated, no-one-is-going-to-see-this great action movie" hype it was getting. I hadn't seen a single commercial for it until said hype was popping up.

  10. Vic, please go see this and write a review. This is the first movie that I wanted to get Ebert's take on since he died. 91% on Rotten Tomatoes, if that means anything. Here's a good review, but it's spoilerific. Go in fresh and read this after. http://grantland.com/features/dawn-of-the-planet-of-the-apes-review/. If you read this or another review before you see the movie, you'll think the movie sounds ridiculous and dopey. Plus even knowing the setup for the plot is a bit of a spoiler. Going in knowing nothing is ideal.
  11. This was really good.
  12. up up down down left right left right b a start

  14. Edgy MD wrote: Well, the name is in the title and everything. I meant I was surprised when I first heard Smaug would be in the second movie. I thought he would first make an appearance in the last movie. Yes, when I realized his name in the title I figured he would be in the movie.
  15. Vic Sage wrote: I do hate that Jackson has padded the story out with lots of extra stuff to justify a trilogy (it doesn't) I was surprised that Smaug shows up in the second movie.
  16. Based on the novel by Orson Scott Card. Not good.
  17. Very very good. 4.5 stars. It is not possible to be bored by this movie, unless the watcher goes in with their mind made up.

We all have Christian Bale to thank for Blake not being the character he should have been and we all wanted him to be. -- (not sure if this is common knowledge or not, and I really don't care What do you mean?
  19. Who is the cycling expert round here? Do people really ride fixed gear no brake bikes? Does fixed gear mean what it sounds like it means? What is the significance of a steel frame? Why would the main character like all these things? My apologies if I'm asking questions about things that aren't grounded in reality.

Vic Sage wrote: on the one hand, it was sweet, corny, sentimental, entertaining ... but more for me and my wife than it was for my 11-year old son (who was bored but polite enough not to say so) or my 14-year old daughter (who wouldn't be caught dead going to this movie). I grew up watching and love the Muppets, but when I was fourteen I wouldn't have been caught dead going to see it either. Especially with my parents. Because I was fourteen. Vic Sage wrote: on the other hand, its a nakedly cynical attempt by Disney to revivify a moribund asset. Yes, i teared up a bit during RAINBOW CONNECTION. fuck you, Uncle Walt. Nah, you're the cynical one. Jason Segel was the one who pushed to do this, he describes it in the first three minutes of the interview below. Disney doesn't have to be the pure embodiment of evil. It would have been better with someone other than Owen Wilson as the protagonist, but it was a lot of fun nonetheless. He wouldn't have been my first choice either but I thought he was pretty good.
  24. Woody Allen's latest. I have no idea how to describe it without spoilers. I enjoyed it.
