  1. Curt Simmons, 4/20/67, toothpaste colored wall! It was toothpastish for Seaver's first start, and more than likely 2 days before when Don Cardwell pitched opening day at Shea. So we know it was that strange hue from April 13 to April 20, 1967. In this game Simmons faced off against Tom Seaver at the start of the second homestand of the season. After leaving his first game with the score tied 2-2, Tom got no decision. Here, in his second ever MLB start against Simmons, Tom picks up his first career win! The soon to be franchise allowed one run on 8 hits in 7.1 innings. New Met Tommy Davis hit a double and smacked a homer over that bright, glaring, blindingly light outfield wall. Mets won 6-1
  2. Even though there's been talk the last week about this happening I am still in shock. He came to ST in good shape. He's been hitting. Cabrera went down. I figured Mr. T would plug that gap while Flores floats between the corners. I've been hoping to see more of Matt Reynolds for over a year now, so maybe this makes way for that, in which case I'll get over it. They couldn't move him?

Eh, it's a way to show some respect for our elders and not pin the ace label on any one stud early on at the same time. Just an idea. There's definitely an argument just to go with the dean of the staff. It sure worked for the Mets last year, even though fans were looking to burn down the mission over it. TC's M.O. has me thinking he might go with Colon because of his veteran status. But that's only if he drops a sound bite in Colons direction, because the rest of the staff will pick up on that and back the choice. We saw that last season. I don't hear Terry saying anything specific so I don't think he has decided. The last time Harvey faced Kansas City they knocked him off the mound in the 9th. I like the idea of Harvey going right back out and squelching the Royals in the season opener.
  4. Colon didn't look as bad as his line. Angel Hernandez is such an asshole.

  6. Tied at the end of the 10th, Mets load the bases but fail to plate a run. TC calls GAME OVER and the Mets and Skanks walk off into the sunset, tied 4-4.
  7. Usually doesn't hurt to register. And in this case the article even comes with diagrammed instructions. [fimg=200]http://si.wsj.net/public/resources/images/BN-MY429_201603_G_20160307132428.jpg[/fimg] -- [fimg=200]http://si.wsj.net/public/resources/images/BN-MY430_201603_G_20160307132505.jpg[/fimg] -- [fimg=200]http://si.wsj.net/public/resources/images/BN-MY431_201603_G_20160307132630.jpg[/fimg] --[fimg=200]http://si.wsj.net/public/resources/images/BN-MY432_201603_G_20160307132706.jpg[/fimg] He said he learned it from his father, who played minor league ball, who in turn learned it from his father who had also played. And I think it also goes without saying that both Gilmartins, pere et fils, are left-handed. Not sure about gramps. Awesome graphics! Mets gear too! They have his beard and everything. My way had the same result but no one got to see my pink hearted underwear. MFS62 wrote: G-Fafif wrote: The illustrations make it look like The Joy of Socks. Groan! But it was a joyful groan. Kudos. Later Get out, that was classic comedy. I might have to do a mock up of the The Joy of Socks book cover.
  8. What he'll ride in the parade: A tricked out blue and orange Ferrari that belches flames to the tune of Meet the Mets. lol. Tweet that in his general direction and he just might. Ashie62 wrote: 61 hr 138 rbi .288 MVP There ya go. I'm with Ash. Why think small when all you're doing is thinking? That's why I haven't jumped into any of these. I want them all to excel even past their potential so why predict anything less? I'd put Conforto down for the 35 kaBOOMs you guys are giving Cespedes. Ha.
  9. I can't read the whole article unless I register. But I get the jist of it. I used to wear the long stirrups when I played. And I'd tuck em up in the bottom of the baseball pants, which were short, ending at the mid calf or just below the knee, depending on how you tucked 'em.
  10. Wow, I didn't think there was any way the content would merit the thread name. That's almost scary looking.
  11. Benjamin Grimm wrote: It should be the Ruben Tejada Rule. So they name it after Utley and then drop the charges. I understand why, but still...that's bullshit. I agree with Grimm. Immortalize the good guys name, not the bad guy.
  12. Ha! d'Arnaud's brother sucks. 7-5 Mets in the 7th.
  13. seawolf17 wrote: Yes, there is a Mets one. They're a preview for an "MLB Wacky Packages" set that's coming out later this spring, which is why it's small. Oh. That's kool. Wacky cards just for baseball? I like
  14. Great to see baseball again. And Herrera ties it in the 9th with an inside the park homer! Very nice. I agree, also great to hear GKR and they were in mid season form. No fluff. That business about Duda's game 5 throw was very interesting. Hosmer wasn't that far off the bag. If Wilmer had fielded that it might have gone completely different. Not blaming Wright, a 3rd baseman should get whatever he can reach, but GKR's analysis was very informative.
  15. seawolf17 wrote: It's a small subset -- six cards. Got the Royals one if you want it. The Bautista is excellent. The photography is very good this year. Only six? That sucks. I just don't understand Topps anymore. The Royals? Gah! Is there a Mets one? There better be or I'll have to make one. One odd behavior that I didn't realize was a habit until this season, I guess because it's been so long in between trips, is I pull the cards of the players on the team we played in the world series. I have a little stack of Royals. I found myself doing this and thinking back, and in 87,74, even 70, I did the same thing. Pulled the Bo-Sox, the A's, and the Orioles (& I would pull and follow these players for years in many cases). Didn't do it in 2001. Saw no need for a pile of Yankee cards. I bet we all have wacky card habits. Anyone else do this?
  16. [fimg=300:2xcjlgq2]https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1629/24834140553_a36db2c6c9_o.jpg[/fimg:2xcjlgq2] That's a beauty. Something seems off with the top font/name. The lack of a dot? I don't think that's it because some didn't have the dot. Font too thin? It's a little thing but it bugs me. 2016 Topps: I suppose this is a camo one. It would really be messed up if there are camo photos used on reg issue as well. [fimg=300:2xcjlgq2]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-piyMVI4nP4Y/VtirtyuqWgI/AAAAAAAAl8w/OAsi0sF0jYg/s576-Ic42/2016t-Benoit-camo.png[/fimg:2xcjlgq2] Has everyone seen the reg Bautista card? I want to show it but it's a "WOW" card and I don't want to ruin the fun of first seeing this come out of a pack. Oh, also, my fav side dish this year have to be the Wacky Packs cards. But get this, I've made 3 BB card runs so far this season. I got 3 of the same Wacky Packs card! The only ones I got. I don't even want to know what the Mets one looks like yet, but I want it bad (I think there's one for every team). I might go for this entire subset. 17. Final 9-4 Nats. 1 inning, 4 runs. Montero's ERA to start the spring is 36.00. Should be downhill for him from here on out. A lot of names I've never even heard of. Who cares. BASEBALL!
  18. I'm reading that TC got pissed. Any truth to this? I think Terry was more about, "Let's redirect." When I saw Cespedes on the horse I laughed and thought what a crazy mofo, but when I saw Syndergaard behind him on horseback my first thought was: get our pitcher off that horse! The last thing we need is a rotation member being thrown from the saddle. I thought maybe Collins felt similar.

  21. He actually did go get a blue one. And yes, I was very impressed. [fimg=400:3pfmw8u4]http://assets.nydailynews.com/polopoly_fs/1.2546054.1456611429!/img/httpImage/image.jpg_gen/derivatives/gallery_970/hs0-8608.jpg[/fimg:3pfmw8u4]
  22. I found this but it's got the mark. Still, great photo. He had the whole wacky lips, big ears, unibrow, eyes too far apart thing goin' for him. As a kid he stood out for some reason. Probably something he did to the Mets. I knew him as an Expo and I'm pretty sure I didn't know he was ever a Met back then in the early 70's. Shut us out? Steal some Cy Young votes? I don't recall. 23. I don't care if it looks like shit. Even if I was just a little rich I'd ruin all my cars. The only thing that would stop me is if I owned the #1 '66 Batmobile. I suppose if I was a lot rich I would.

  25. For some wacky reason I've started to scan all my concert ticket stubs. I don't have every concert I ever went to but I do have a good amount. One of my prized possessions is this Asia ticket. A buddy I grew up with worked at Forest Hills (still does) & he gave us comped tickets. We sat right in front of em, front row. I'll never, ever forget seeing Steve Howe play Mood For A Day standing around five feet from me. IIRC this was a must see show, especially for my little brothers. I carted 'em all up to New York.
