  1. Here's a rare one. [fimg=500:f3oijgh8]http://media.gettyimages.com/photos/rookie-pitcher-tom-seaver-and-bill-denehy-of-the-mets-trot-around-picture-id97261939[/fimg:f3oijgh8]
  2. Could that be Billy D?
  3. Edgy MD wrote: Cardinals manager Johnny Keane gets up. He looks out at the on-deck circle and it's Duke Snider striding toward the plate. At this point in his career, Snider has a head like Michael Cuddyer and a gut like Bartolo Colon, but when he gets in the batter's box, 398 career homers are in there with him. Nah, he just wore a blousy jersey. Excellent footage. You see how fast after the game they are running full speed for the locker room. Wacky stuff.
  4. Now that I think about it I complained a lot about Duda when they had him the outfield. I demanded he be removed after seeing his first two games in left. I can say I hated Duda in the OF and probably did say that back when. But I never hated Duda or his bat. And the work he's done to become at least average at first has been very impressive, IMO. I don't worry about him in the field anymore. Yea, he's streaky as hell but we know what we got in him. No complaints anymore. Home town kid. I want him to make good. Rooting for him to have that one season when he sustains things for a more extended period of time. He could (he should) have a 40HR season in him. I'm rooting for one of those.
  5. Frayed Knot wrote: We also shouldn't ignore this little tweak that goes along with the new sliding rules: Also reviewable will be “neighborhood play” calls, which previously were exempted from replay review. Already there are grumblings that this is going to cause as many collisions and problems as it solves. Remember that the Tejada play was reviewed and reversed because the umps not only determined that Ruben's foot was a solid 1/2 inch from the base but also ruled that the play as it unfolded didn't qualify for the now-discarded neighborhood exemption (gee, the replay rule turning at least as much on supposition as on actual evidence ... who could have seen THAT coming?). Well now none of that matters as any and all so-called neighborhood plays are subject to review. So I now have no idea how that exact same play gets ruled on if it happens this coming season. Utley (auto-correct keeps changing this to 'Outlay') should be ruled out due to interference plus I assume this also gives the umps the option to rule the batter/runner out also just as in an illegal out-of-baselines slide (pre-existing rule 6.01). How that conflicts with the evidence that Tejada never actually touches the base is anyone's guess since theoretically both managers could challenge different aspects of the same play at the same base and the replay prove each of them right. Does one rule supersede the other? Maybe since nobody can be safe at 2nd via this new rule and the batter/runner is ruled out at 1st via the old one, they'll work out a compromise by giving the Dodgers two outs but put Utley at 3rd instead. Or maybe they get four outs the next inning, who knows. IMO making the neighborhood play reviewable is a HUGE mistake. All other changes are fine. I think taking it away defeats the purpose of the rule change, because if safety is the primary goal they just made it more unsafe for the fielder. And also managers will be reviewing every other freakin DP.
  6. I'm looking forward to this season more than I have any season since 2008. But not enough that I'll watch any spring training games. A few years ago I turned on a spring training game for the first time in years. Lucas Duda was batting. He struck out. In the course of that one at bat I was already bored and turned off the TV. You must be one of those haters who generated today's bizarre "Lucas Duda: Why Do Mets Fans Hate Me?" Ken Davidoff article. That article is just so much bullshit. Anyone here hate The Dude?
  7. Lefty Specialist wrote: Dexter Fowler goes BACK to the Cubs, leaving the Orioles flummoxed. Mets may have the best pitching in the league, but the Cubbies are going to have the best offense. This means Heyward can play right instead of center. Not sure what they do with Soler and Schwarber now. That's a crowded outfield. Schwarber's will spend more time behind the plate. IIRC he started as a catcher. They want to get Schwarber's bat in there somehow. Montero and Ross are both ahead of him on the depth chart as far as catcher goes, so no idea how that's going to play out.
  8. batmagadanleadoff wrote: The infielder looks like Ron Hunt to me. The picture can't be from 1969. 1967 would be the latest possible date. If the infielder is Ron Hunt, then the picture's from 1966, the Braves first year in Atlanta (see Hank's helmet). Hunt wasn't a Met in '67. '66 was their first year in Atlanta!? Excellent work and thank you batmags. From that angle it certainly looks like him. And Lewis was there in '66. The color of the OF wall says pre '67, that's for sure. Thanks. That is a very kool photo. I'm thinking '67t horizontal.
  9. Who do you think these Mets are in this photo? What year do you think it was? My guess is Ron Hunt and Johnny Lewis, 1965. Info provided with the photo may have claimed it was Buddy H. It definitely said the photo was from the 1969 NLCS.
  10. Brock Pemberton and Kevin Collins become members of The All Time Mets Set and Ryan Williams gets the 1st Fan Of The Month card of 2016. http://metsfantasycards.blogspot.com/2016/02/some-special-cards-for-hump-day.html [fimg=500]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-vGc4Xkh3caY/Vs13JXAt12I/AAAAAAAAl5Y/mG3QfebYbLE/s690-Ic42/2016mfc%252520FOTM1-March-Ryan%252520Williams-z16.png[/fimg]
  11. Very kool vehicle but if you want to impress me, be wearin' your colors, not Nats road.
  12. I made a card for him in 2014 but I have yet to post all the '75s. I didn't know his position until today. [fimg=300:1l6lrkzv]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-kzCgM3OlfCs/Vsuq-PZ0gdI/AAAAAAAAl2M/L2ylD91Ay3I/s576-Ic42/75mfc-BrockPemberton-z14.png[/fimg:1l6lrkzv] 62, also too young.

IIRC Bobby V also wore five different numbers, but not as a player.
  14. I recall him from yearbook photos. Again, one of those "down on the farm" pages. [fimg=300:15w17w09]http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-2gjK9xeqT8c/UIYm0Ca7z4I/AAAAAAAAgz0/72IUwPLdLow/s320/pemberton.jpg[/fimg:15w17w09] RIP Mr. Pemberton.
  15. Of course, and thanks! Collins' passing means the oldest man to wear 4 Met uniform numbers is now Ed Lynch. That didn't register right away. Four different uni #s. Wow. Has anyone ever wore five for the Mets? In the 1990s, my mission was to get one of every Mets card, which was actually possible then. I knew the Ryan and Seaver rookies -- and the Fleer Gooden, at the time -- would be really expensive. But it was killer when I'd see that a minor Met shared his rookie card with a star. The Collins was tough! I did that, starting in 1985 when I got back into collecting cards because of Gooden and Strawberry. Rookie cards became the thing just about then. I'd use current (then) 80's rookies to trade for old Mets cards. I've told the Seaver rookie card story here (how I got it), I'm sure. And the Ryan story. The Fleer Gooden. When I pulled the trigger on that, the 84 Fleer update set was about 2 years old, Gooden and Clemens making it a valuable hotcake. Fleer produced a limited amount and I knew the Gooden was THE card to have. I bought the 84Fleer update set from a gold/card dealer for $100 in '86. I still have the Gooden, the Seaver, and all the rest of the set except Clemens, who I sold for what I'm sure ended up being Mets cards for my collection. I had every Mets card, Topps, Fleer, Donruss, Upper Deck, and special stuff like Hostess cutouts and 3-D cards from 1962 to around 1994. I no longer have the bulk of the collection but still have the more expensive cards and many early year ('62 to '67) commons. I've been thinking about putting the collection back together again. As much as I loved having them, I think the real fun was in the pursuit of the cards. Back to Kevin Collins: I found this nice head shot of Collins and it looks like the youngest I've seen him. That's been used for his 65 bordered card instead of the helmet head one. Helmet head will be a '68. I might not win the fight, but I will be there with you. And I can’t even get off the ground. And I remember everybody—Cardwell, Agee, Joe Pignatano…everybody just going at it. Unfortunately I couldn’t participate because I was on my back, staring up the roof of the Astrodome.” This is great. Mind if I link to it from my blog? I'll credit and all. I wonder if he and Buddy were told to try switch hitting around the same time. IIRC Stengel was behind that in Harrelson's case. I found another nice Collins photo in my files and I switched up all the mfc cards for his post (finding Tony Phillips as a Met was more difficult). And I knew there was another reason that Kevin Collins stood out with me. I have his '65 Topps rookie card. I forgot all about that. Anyone know what this is worth these days? Picked that up at a card show in the mid 80's and Tony Perez made that a little pricey. I calls 'em as I sees 'em.
  20. Niiice. I went with 1965 for no reasonable reason. Pretty sure the photos later but he needs a solo rookie card. I'll add the 3 Collins to the blog as soon as I whip up a Phillips. It's been a bad week.
  21. Thanks Batmags. I should have stopped back here before I made the cards. I found one portrait shot that was nice, made a 67, and a really nice posed shot from '69(I guess). I went with a '69 border on that one. Maybe I'll make a '68 out of yours. [fimg=400:1ofd8cav]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-idHoNa9QFPg/VslkCc15vCI/AAAAAAAAlvc/ZKi9p4vG78M/s576-Ic42/71ZFv3K%25252BmwL._SL1399_.jpg[/fimg:1ofd8cav] I did make a card for him in 2013 and it was a 1970 Mets Rookies card. Looks like he was gone by then. IIRC the photo was from the Mets '69 yearbook and it was one of those "down on the farm" things. I'm gonna have to pull that. Is that anywhere near accurate? Was Frisella a rook in '69/70? [fimg=400:1ofd8cav]https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-dKlE6Zku6go/UseZH8MDGZI/AAAAAAAAKy4/aGLL58tOsDY/s713-Ic42/1970tMETSROOKIES001.jpg[/fimg:1ofd8cav] Thanks again. OE: I wanted to share the original size image but display it at a smaller size. Looks like you can only lift the resized version. I'll PM you the full size photo.
  22. RIP Mr. Collins. I'm surprised I don't have a Collins card to pull out'a my hat. I'll have to do something about that if I have a decent photo. '65-'69? I didn't realize he was with the team that long.
  23. Maybe a second printing. Nice that you got this far with this. It would appear the two guys doing pushups are practicing coitus. Love the Krusty Avatar. lol&2guys. Thanks:) That is a Matt Groening clown but not Krusty. The clown was in his other show Futurama and he wasn't given a name. It was a tribute to baseball clown Max Patkin so I named the clown Pax Matkin for his fantasy card. Mets infield, 3002... 24. IMO the most important acquisition (offensively) of 2015 for about a week. Paid immediate dividends. Got hurt. This is a lot of cards for a guy off the bench who joined late in the season. But if a player did something I thought was notable, I'd make a card. 25. I was just sent a copy of the settlement. This is all good. Price relief, increased availability, single team packages and this: Follow Your Team: MLB will allow all MLB.TV purchasers who subscribe to Comcast, DIRECTV, or certain other cable, satellite or other providers to purchase a "Follow Your Team" option that will allow them to receive telecasts of their favorite out-of-market team's broadcaster without any blackouts-even when it is playing an in-market team, so long as the purchaser receives the in-market team's programming through his or her television service. This product will cost no more than $10 more than a standard MLB.TV package, which will raise the overall price of the MLB.TV package to $119.99 for a full season in 2016 for consumers selecting this enhancement. I think that means I'd need to have SNY to qualify. I'm only supposed to get bumped by the Phils and I do get a lot of their games thru Comcast, including all the times they play the Mets. They've been much better than when I first subscribed (used to black me out for Pitts,Balt,Wash,&Philly). As long as they only block the Phils I'm good. I believe it means that those paying the extra $10 for the privilege of naming your favorite team will get ALL the games for that team even those against a local team that would normally be blocked out via MLB.TV as long as you also receive the channel which carries that local team. In your case, as long as you get the channel that the Phils games appears on [Comcast Sports Network, right?] then your NYM games will not be blocked even when playing the Phils. IOW, the idea behind this whole thing (I assume) is that the blackouts were specifically designed to assure the local team that customers wouldn't be canceling their service in favor of out of town games. As long as you're getting the Philly channel anyway it doesn't hurt them that you're also getting your Met games via other means. Thank you FK. Yea, I get the Phils thru Comcast. I read it but you guyz know how easily confused I am. I wonder if they will still allow you to go thru the teams archived games and replay 'em. So for those of you who have used this regularly before, how did it work? And by that I mean both how was the quality/reliability and so on, but also how did it physically work? IOW: - do you have to watch a game live in real time or can you pick it up partway through but still watch from the beginning, or freeze it for a bit then pick it up again, etc.? - are you restricted to just computer (or tablet/phone) viewing or can it be routed through to either a 'smart' TV or to a 'dumb' one via a Roku or some such device? Quality is great. Even many miles away. You can pick it up partway through, you can pause, and it pick it up later. If you tune in a short time after the conclusion of the game, you have to wait a bit (usually an hour or so) while the game gets archived. List of supported devices: Xbox 360 / Xbox One Playstation 3 / Playstation 4 Apple TV WD TV Roku Panasonic Samsung LG Sony Blu-Ray Windows 8 TiVo Amazon Fire TV http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/subscriptions/index.jsp?&affiliateId=MLBTVREDIRECT#connected-devices It's very easy to access games of the past. You just use a season schedule calendar that drops down and go to the year and day. And yea, you can treat it like any HD video you would view. Freeze frame, jump innings, full screen or small box. Commercial time is usually just dead space on the real old games. If you pause for a real extended period of time I think it eventually pulls you out of the game to the post game screen, which is no biggy. You can just jump back to where you were. I only watch em on the computer but as El Segundo Escupidor said, there are many other ways to go.
