  1. add in a home run from Tomas "Better than Mesoraco" Nido.
  2. https://www.baseball-reference.com/tiny/sS341https://www.baseball-reference.com/tiny/sS341 link to the query. (I manually edited it to remove the duplicates, where a guy pitched twice against us in the first three) Interestingly, this seems to be the first time this season we've seen a guy within his first 6 career games this season. Within first 10? Paddock last night and we destroyed Kyle Wright w/ Atlanta in April.
  3. dammit folks, come off the ledge. we have beer down here. Looks like you might need a visit withhttps://www.barleyprose.com/beer/life-advice-with-dr-carl-juengling/ Dr. Carl Juengling
  4. Not sure how to do 'first game against the Mets' split, but here's the combined pitching record for the first start against the Mets that occurs within a pitcher's first three career starts Since 2015: 7-17 (pitcher's have a 5-10 record) and a 4.976 ERA
  5. =seawolf17 post_id=9364 time=1557242567 user_id=91] This is going to be one of those guy-just-called-up-from-AAA-throws-seven-scoreless-innings games. This fuckin' team, man.
  6. I admitted didn't read up on the original reason he was out, but I had assumed it was probably something like this and they were just kinda hoping it ended up being benign. So 'treatable' feels like kind of good news. Hopefully it is and all goes smoothly.
  7. I haven't muttered "You idiot!" while listening, but I can't say I've found him compelling yet either.
  8. Mets are gonna use Woodruff to flavor the beer they pour on Braun this time.
  9. It's likely a play on "Restore the Roar," which is used by every sports team with a roaring animal as a mascot or nickname. I'm not defending. Just explaining. I've never heard restore the roar. Is this a college thing? It's probably confusing and dumb there too.
  10. Post is only one even approaching 'good'. Restore the thor makes no sense. Mane Man is dismissive (it wasn't luck) and was really lack of mane man? At least the post captures the singular and historic nature of it. You don't think "Restore the Thor" makes sense? I think they are noting that Syndergaard bounced back after a series of starts worthy of mere mortals. well, 'the Thor' doesn't really make sense. sure, he bounce back, but he A. wasn't really that bad (luck!) and B. that's not really a 'restoration'. I guess it kinda rhymes because ends in 'r' but that's pretty dumb too. But like, 95% of these covers are stupid and they're the best part of these rags, so no surprise really.

I have not yet been able to conform to the Alonso-batting-second thing, but after seeing him flailing through the evening yesterday when often all they needed was contact, I salute the contact he made to end the game. I see Canó return to the lineup and I'm all, "Oh, yeah, him." supposedly it's tentative, pending BP. Cano that is.
  13. =Fman99 post_id=8641 time=1556623087 user_id=86] I can't vote for a vengeful God? I assume the Mets are playing like shit because I've spent too much time looking at naked people on the Internet\
  14. Cano MRI negative, just swollen.
  15. Edgy MD wrote: I'd be highly surprised if anybody not named "McNeil" is playing second. Lowrie?
  16. I'm not particularly pissed at Hoskins either, I am a little annoyed at the media heavily pushing this rivalry and narrative that's almost definitely going to dredge this up ad nauseam before the next series and might actually incite something.
  17. Brewers pitchers have more fWAR hitting than pitchng.
  18. This episode has made me feel bad for Rhame, whose presence on the staff I don't care for, and detest Hoskins, of whom I had no opinion beyond he sure can hit. Ah, tribalism. Suspend Callaway if the message is this shouldn't be part of the game. There's no way the kid took it upon himself to "take care of business". You don't think so? akin to the tribalism, I imagine there's a lot of impetus for a 25th guy on the roster type, or really any part of a team, to want to show loyalty to the group, the "I've got you're back, you hit one of us you hit all of us" and all that.
  19. These guys definitely should look up the word "concede" It's definitely on the Phillies to go 'first' though, you go tell the umpire "we're done, see you tomorrow" and leave.
  20. One way to ENSURE you suck forever is to only try things that the other teams are doing. Innovate! they're in first place. They won't stay there by resting on it. They might. Steamer still somehow projects Keuchel for about 2.3 fWAR in 145 IP. Fangraphs projected standings are Nats 89 Mets 85 Phillies 84 Braves 83. Assuming that extremely optimistic take on Keuchel's volume if not his ability, 2-2.5 wins barely moves the needle. Dan Sabo%%rski... the ZiPS guy, projected Gio might give the Mets an additional 6% of making the playoffs. Keuchel is projected a little better than that, so maybe 7 or 8? Thats a nice bump for little expenditure (depending how many additional possibly bad years you ahve to take Dallas for), but an estimate of a slight bump in playoff odds (that are already reasonably high) is not exactly "BETTER DO THIS OR ELSE"

  22. Frayed Knot wrote: I think the thought about Keuchel/Kimbrel is that it's only six or so weeks until the draft at this point and that teams are willing to wait until after that passes at which point compensation picks would go away. Fuck the pick. Sign Keuchel now while others are unwilling. And what do you do in the preceding month? He might not even be good, especially given the layoff. Oh and also, doing things that 29 other teams seem to think is a bad idea is usually something the Mets get killed for.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: The problem with the 2007 fight is that the playing-out-the-string Marlins had their bags packed to go home. After Blastings Thrilledge apparently provoked them with what they saw as an over-demonstrative homerun celebration, the Marlins suddenly had a burning motivation to eliminate the Mets before calling it a season. The Marlins came out and scored seven in the first the next day. It's a shame we had some scrub pitching and not a future hall of famer.
