Any media criticism of the Mets is fake news, sez you. fuck off. I'm not objecting to criticism, when it's sourced, and well argued. But these rags are mostly just doing zeitgeist clickbait stuff. It's for entertainment, and I don't find it entertaining. This is not just about the newspapers/media, i find the #LOLMets woe is me stuff extremely boring and lame. So these papers 1. Don't inform me. 2. Don't entertain me. so why bother? They're retweeting the press releases and making the same lame jokes a billion people made on Twitter the night before. Once in a blue moon they get in a cool photo/pun cover that's interesting, and that's about it.

It was more a shot at that one voter. But I wouldn't have expected anything better from the Post. Later The everyone hits for Jake thing is a knock at the offense. Something that's irrelevant to his award. Also it barely makes sense so it's not even like it's a good pun. It's just big stupid words all over the place. It's bigger than the picture. And the other one 'of the times' and 'despite' are qualifiers. Fuck qualifiers, deGrom was amazing, full stop.
  4. Don't think there are any breweries in Sunnyside though.

I wonder if that's changed now with the surgeries. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/baseball/mets/time-mets-yoenis-cespedes-player-article-1.3993934 It's a lot of "selling jeans" stuff about his body type and stuff. They didn't know he had the heal spurs. Sounds like no one asked, which I guess, why would you, but it's just a lot of "he's got nagging injuries so clearly he'll always have nagging injuries" A lot of LOLMets nonsense for them wanting to see how he responded to a night's sleep and a day of rest even though that's extremely common protocol for most teams, and for just injuries/conditions in general. They knew then they were managing something, and that if he woke up the next day and was fine, he'd still be hurt but could still play, like he'd been doing since they got him.

    Frozen

I enjoy the weird conspiracy theories. like that Tarzan is Anna and Elsa's brother.
  9. I predict it has almost zero impact. I mean, maybe Amazon signs on as a sponsor somewhere just because. Excited for my random mets.com/amazonPrimePreSale next year.
  10. I assume they're just projecting Machado on a neutral park.
  11. We've got twitter bots that tweet out catcher framing stuff within minutes. So many people, including other teams, have databases and in-game pitch tracking stuff. It would only take an inning or so to realize that one team is getting called strikes farther inside than the other team.
  12. Edgy MD wrote: WAR is the name of two different stats that profess to measure the same thing. They come from two different sources — Fangraphs and Baseball-reference — so they are distinguished colloquially as fWAR and bWAR. As both are proprietary, it's not altogether clear what differences they bring, but most (not all) prefer fWAR. They seem to have more sophisticated defensive measurements, though that doesn't necessarily mean more accurate. defense seems to be the big one. I believe Fangraphs uses FIP and BR uses RA/9 to calculate defensive value. There are other things, like positional weights and the like. I've heard, but haven't confirmed, that B-R weights what actually happened a little more, but that might just be a reflection on using runs allowed over FIP. The important thing to note is that they're counting estimates. They count up everything a player does on the field that contributes positively towards creating runs, subtract those things that contribute towards not scoring runs. You don't really need to over think it. There's definitely some work to be done, particularly on the positional adjustment side (an identical batting line for a SS And a RF will have very different WAR) but the concept is really just that. if you do things that typically contribute to run scoring, or run prevention, your WAR ticks up. so WAR/600PA is just projections. Like saying a guy at the ASB will hit 40 HR if he has 20.

But it's when you start rigging out your home park with electronic devices not available to the other side that it crosses the line over to cheating and then, yeah, the commish's office has to step in on this. For the same reasons, if/when they install robo-ump for B/S calls then the set-up and operation of that stuff HAS TO BE kept out of the paws of the home team. on the second front, they just have to keep that data public like it is now. It'll be ridiculously easy to spot if someone tampered. On the first, well, sure. I'm sure we'll only a few years away from umpires doing the official "McAfee sweep of the dugouts for bugs". If I were a manager, I'd probably be testing these things. Like it's bottom 6 with the pitcher on deck, I might say out loud "Eiland, get someone up, I'm going to take deGrom out if he pinch hits Acuna here" to see what happens.
  14. Just off the top of my head when this stuff comes up, I've come up with a zillion ways you could steal signs and get away with it.
  15. Edgy MD wrote: The subtext on that for me is that Tom Seaver has completely checked out, at least as far as paying attention to baseball, or at least the Mets. It's not really about him so he's not particularly interested. Maybe whoever reached out should've phrased it as "do you think deGrom is as good as you were?"
  16. Frayed Knot wrote: I'll need to have that one explained to me. hACUNA matata. Ain't no passing craze.
  17. Took the damn qualifying offer.
  18. It's no contest, emotional Cespedes with the bat (behind the letters) in mid "flip" is everything that's great about baseball these days. NAT SO FAST
  19. We've got at least two spots open, so let's fill those. Can we revisit some of the discussions of last season? I'd really like to throw in a playoff structure. Obviously playoffs has to be Head to Head and either Otto points or SABR points. I personally don't think it's a big deal to switch from roto to H2H for the playoffs. It's just another layer. Thoughts on this? should I put up a poll? I figure the 10* of us's opinion has more weight than the two newbies. tl:dr Playoffs or no playoffs? 2. second question. Money? Otto is bumping up to $20. If we bump up to $50 there are Ottoneu built in prizes of 1st place - $300 2nd place - $50 3rd place - No prize Or we could personally commit $5 or $10 into a pot and make our own prizes/pools/payouts (cycle, 4hr, no-hitter, officially eliminate the Yankees from the playoffs, etc). We could do playoffs but still reward the regular season winner with $30 or something. tl:dr Do we want to put in a few bucks for a monetary reward?

  21. smg58 wrote: Again, I'm not against trading anybody in principle. I do not believe dealing Conforto would serve the interests of winning now, though. And the way to deal with Boras (or any agent) is to let them tell the media whatever they want and not to actually care. We've done plenty of good business with Boras in the past, and there is really no tangible evidence that things are any different now. It's hard not to wonder if Boras' whining in more recent years is not a direct result of the Mets choosing Brodie's clients over his.
  22. smg58 wrote: Wow, you're really bumping up DeGrom. Perhaps I should have kept quiet... yeah, I may have forgotten. I've gotten really bad deadlines. But this has been on my list for a while. my logic is basically "just throw money at guys you know they'll keep" We do need I think two? new people btw.

  24. Mex17 wrote: Ceetar wrote: You really got be high on catcher metrics to want Maldonado. I'll keep Plawecki's bat, thanks. Maybe you can give it back to him? I guess bat isn't quite the right word. I'll take his _Batting eye_ and his .330 OBP over the last two years. Sure, his overall numbers are roughly league average, but I'll take making fewer outs over the more nebulous catcher defense boost you'd get from Maldonado who can't hit a lick.
  25. RealityChuck wrote: At this point, D'Arnaud doesn't have much value. His numbers are less of a factor as the point than his health. It's doubtful he'd be available by opening day, and probably not until midseason. Even if he comes back quickly, he has a history of injuries that would make most teams reluctant to take him on, and they certainly wouldn't give up much for him. It would make more sense to tender him and hope for the best. source? He's expected back for Opening Day, though that might be a bit aggressive.
