  1. really enjoyed it. And reboot or not, they certainly seemed to hint that there could be more if they wanted to. or a spin off of sorts. One or two minor things they'd have to clear up, but it could be fun still. Enjoyed Hathaway as Cat Woman, think the character was well played. Joseph Gordon-Levitt had a nice part too as Blake, I like him as an actor. Probably should've realized the 'twist' at the end, but whatever. some nice aerials of Manhattan, which I always enjoy. Saw previews for Bourne, Man of Steel and Skyfire, all of which I want to see. oh, and the Hobbit of course. ****spoilers of sort below***** * I didn't care for Marion Cotillard, or the plot twist she is asked to play; it felt forced and imposed on the narrative. But the big reveal did cause an audible gasp and sense of satisfaction in the story getting back to to its comic book roots, so i didn't really mind. She may or may not just a projection of Blake's mind anyway. Oh wait, mixing movies there. That's actually the plot twist I saw coming a mile away. Especially after they did away with Daggard as the human villain. But the entire story was very well done and powerful and all that. Long but definitely didn't drag at all. Although I felt like Catwoman disappeared for too long between betraying Batman and while the city was going rogue. And I kept wondering where Alfred was the whole time, though I didn't actually expect him to be part of the resistance or anything.

  3. The Second Spitter wrote: The task of simultaneously pleasing casual viewers and hardcore Trekkies became impossible to reconcile. difficult? yes. impossible? no. It would certainly take some work, but you could pick a random spiderman story arc and introduce the backstory involved as well, on some basis. You might need to streamline, sure, but you don't need to do the spider bit me! wow! look! i can lift heavy things and hold onto walls! bit every time. And with a little bit of forethought you can introduce some of the backstory in previous movies. (Say you're signing up for 3-4 movies in advance or whatever) The same with Batman. I'm not suggesting they respect the current universe, but the entire Batman universe. You don't have to pretend it's the same storyline, but we don't need to go back to Batman Begins origin stories either. You could start the next movie mid-batmobile chase of the Riddler with Robin on the other end of the phone directing him and no one would really be lost in what's going on. The next Superman movie doesn't need an hour on Krypton, and growing up in Smallville (unless it's a Smallville type movie) You can start with him already knowing Lois Lane and working at the Planet. I want to see less re-development of characters and more ambitious storylines is all. Just go the the Dr Who/James Bond route the story isn't anchored to one actor. Bond received a reboot in 2006. The previous Bond franchise had the same small group of people at the helm for most of its existence. It was literally inherited. The same producers maintained creative control over the Bond character, irrespective of directors and actors. When their influence waned and ideas dried up, it received a reboot. Dr Who is not a film franchise. It was also partially rebooted in 2005 Right, but that's my point with Bond. Sure, Batman doesn't have a small people at the helm, but I'm trying to say to respect some sort of 'creative commons' world where everyone knows who Batman, Superman, etc. Do we really need another individuals interpretation of what those characters are? Wasn't some of the critique of Spider-Man in the other thread (I haven't seen it yet) that Peter Parker wasn't a nerdy enough social-misfit? Dr. Who obviously is different but it's fresh in my mind. Plus one season isn't that much longer in run time than a 3-4 movie arc. But they manage to pick a new Doctor and/or a companion and just go with it. People complain, sure, but they still do doctor and companion stuff and they get over it and keep watching. I'm curious how the new Bourne movie is going to be.

Put up a poll. Help inform my viewing! been all Dr. Who for me lately besides the Mets. Although Batman this weekend..

If you click on your player, it will give you his game logs for his past 10. I was surprised to see that I'm in 4th place to start the day. I still feel like I'm going to be in sell mode, though. LWFS should be talking to all of us about selling his youth for our stars. well yeah, but then I gotta click 8 times to see all my OF and it's hard to compare that way. I'm willing to take on salary for offense if someone needs to trim.

Actually I've hit the fewest home runs. my OBP is middle of the pack though. I wish it had a 'last 7' feature, because I struggle with subbing in guys and playing the hot hand with my reserves, which is more relevant when you have large 40 man teams.

  8. This might be a non-rankings quirk, but it looks like #6 Piazza is ahead of #5 David Wright. It appears like Wright should be 7, although I could see where writing 5 next to his name is an easy mistake to make. the post above though says he jumped from 7 to 5. that doesn't seem to have taken place in the profiles..or is that not happening at all?
  9. ..........and he's back.
  10. Back to Bingo after the big win in Reading. @Wheelerpro45 was workhorse of the night with his walk and run scored.
  11. Edgy DC wrote: I was torn between three stars and thee and a half. I went for the latter because it had genial good will and because it wasn't Secretariat. But I have half a mind to dock it back down to three for it's shameless and continued references to Target stores as some sort of cornerstone of American life. I forgot about that. yeah, that annoyed me too. I figured 3 was 'average, eh, an okay movie' and 3.5 crossed into the "I'd recommend it" which I would, so I went there.
  12. watched it the other day. Enjoyed it even though I didn't really expect to. was surprisingly broad on all the different area of grief. Which I guess is the point, Everyone in the film is grieving a different sort of loss and it's only the perfect combination of scenarios that get them all on the path towards being better. I think Jason Bourne and Black Widow would make a good couple though.
  13. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: World's Fair and Scarlett Johansson notwithstanding, Iron Man 2 might just be in the 5-10th percentile of movies featuring a sarcastic Robert Downey. It's, like, 80 minutes of really expensive expository for ANOTHER movie, with, like, one REALLY good action sequence and about 20-30 percent of the funny of the original. yeah. and that's still better than Captain America.
  14. Iron Man two had Black Widow, the 1964 Worlds Fair Grounds, and Robert Downey Jr's sarcasm.

Congrats, Ceetar, you are now officially my own personal Rex Reed... a perfect reverse barometer for movies, sports, everything. You are my true north, and i can always gauge how straight my course is by how diametrically it opposes yours. Thank you. A guiding star is a valuable thing to have in one's life. well i went in assuming It wasn't very good because you seemed to think it was awesome.
  16. Edgy DC wrote: A Hulk fan! if there's one I'd put below Captain America, it'd be that one, but I saw it a while ago now so absense may make the heart grow fonder.

  18. I'm getting absolutely embarrassed. A shakeup is in the works. someone's losing their job.
  19. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I admit that if I didn't have a since-childhood affinity and affection for these characters, I probably wouldn't have gone to see the movie. (But I might have watched it when it came to cable.) But I do have that affection, and seeing a movie like this makes me feel like a kid again. And I think that that's the level that it works at, for me. well considering that it broke records either there are a lot of childhood-affinities or people are seeing it because.. I dunno?
  20. I think "The best thing since the Internet" would be more apropos. I've got no real love of pre-sliced braed, just gets staler faster that way.
  21. I loved it, most entertaining movie I've seen in a while. Vic's synopsis fits pretty well. What it does do is makes me want to grab some some of comic/trade paperback/app to read some Avengers comics (and other associated Marvel fun stuff) since I didn't read much of it when I was younger. My main exposure was probably video games, specifically Marvel Ultimate Alliance which the floating airship really nails. So now to figure out where to get said comics. Also, I mentioned this in the other thread, but they certainly did plant seeds for a Civil War angle. Not saying they're planning on doing that, but there were definitely a couple of tie-ins that fit.
  22. LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Do you think it's the Best Movie Ever, or are you some kind of Communist freak-flag-flyer who's waiting until the third weekend to see it? Socialist maybe, but I blame a sick cat. Gonna try to see it Thursday night as part of our 19th mensiversary.
  23. I was talking more about the quality of the story than the actual feasibility. Not that I think i accept "That probably won't work" as excuses not to do things. Besides, isn't Cap alive again? on the Avengers, probably seeing that Sunday morning. Saw Captain America the other night. Not that I think there was any real 'need' to see that or risk being lost. I knew he fought Nazis and was part of the Super Soldier program. I don't really like how they progressed to modern times, but whatever.
  24. well, it already did make a video game.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvel:_Ultimate_Alliance_2 And it was a lot of fun. But I guess that's a growing trend, video games have the graphics and cut scenes to rival movies anyway. Plus they last way longer than 2 hours, AND you get to play along. Doesn't mean it couldn't be done well though. Make it two movies. develop the characters, cut some out. Play side stories on national TV to enrich the characters for those interested.
