TransMonk wrote: i'm going to have a hard enough time sneaking bargains pas the lot of you all. but a guy with a full wallet - sheesh! This. But whatevs. I blame Fman and his lack of patience. He hasn't gotten back to me. I mean, if you we think it's really better we can just boot him at 8:30, release his players, let Fman's team just be unqualified all season until someone picks it up again. Maybe that's the way to go.

just some guy to ostracize. Ottoneu seems to be anti-having less than 12. If we really don't like the guy we can throw him back, but the team would then be available for anyone to claim again. the auction shouldn't b e that big a deal. He's flush with cash but he's not gonna have access to like the top 150 guys or so either.

smg58 wrote: 8:30 tonight? Is FMan back in, and if not, are his players going back on the market? shoved a replacement player in there. As long as he can make the draft. Guy's clearly going to be at a disadvantage since we already drafted Duda, but I imagine he can cobble together a non-embarrassing team. 8:45 I think I said in the email. Clearly if everyone's there we can start. If anyone thinks they are going to be late, or just doesn't care if we start without them? (I mean, you'll only miss a couple of players, many of you don't really need that many)

Edgy DC wrote: I think, if it's worth sitting through otherwise unengaging mainstream entertainment options to get to a porn-ish element, why not just go for porn? I think it depends on your level of engagement. I mean, making a night of it..eh..watching while making dinner? While eating dinner? doing a fantasy draft? sure. Also, if you're watching it with a woman (who's not a friend with benefits) porn is usually frowned upon. but the important answer I guess is not nekkid at all. There are some nice scenes with various states of undress, but I was in the kitchen for a while, so maybe Greg has a more complete answer.

Nah, not blaming you. Chat window kept breaking for me too and everything's a rush. I'd already searched for Cespedes to watch so I'd already realized what the no team thing meant. I've been informed when I asked that I can in fact remove players. So I removed Cruz to no penalty. This is quite a lot of power I apparently have, which is why I initially suspected I couldn't do it. (it's hidden in the bottom of the commiss tools page. and requires three different dynamic combo box selections) anyway, tic tacs and what not.

metsmarathon wrote: fair enough, though the clicking on the guy thing can use up the majority of your 15 seconds of bidding time... figured i'd throw it out there. ultimately i blame the interface. it could be so much better. so. very. much. i get that it's minimalist, and what not, but it's minimalism interferes with its functionality, imo. I agree. I don't think it's so much that it's minimalist (like how the 'remove from watchlist' button doesn't work), just that they don't exactly have a full-fledged support staff or really any backing behind it. Maybe someone big buys it/sponsors it via Fangraphs and they can dump some money into it. Hey, I'm a programmer.. Anyway, I asked. My limited experience with it is that they're pretty supportive and understanding, but I don't really know in this case.

The lack of a position/team after his name was why I questioned if it was the right Nelson Cruz in the chat. You can also click on a guy's name in the window and it'll pop up his stats. I can't nullify it. I guess I can try to petition the Ottoneu people to bork it, but given that it's technically the way it's supposed to work, I'm not sure they will.

metsmarathon wrote: we're not able to close the draft until he's got a legal roster are we? speaking of which, can you put the draft back on the schedule so that we can load up our respective watch lists, or does htat only happen once we're like 24 or 48 hours out? I honestly have no idea. hmm..how do I 'close' a draft? that's an interesting question. The draft window is still there. I popped in this morning to confirm that the order was fixed (it was) and my watch list was still intact as well. (Mike Piazza just sitting there waiting to be nominated)

LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr wrote: Considering my splashing the pot so often and early (I was the Pujols/Cabrera guy... as well as the Hamels and the Darvish and the...), I actually like the shape of my team so far; I'm way cash-poor, but with only an OF slot or two and my relief corps to fill in, starting lineup-wise. I have a feeling FMan's, like, OUT out. We should probably get confirmation from him, and then mark his team abandoned, and then see if we can get a fill in. Or something. Trades are always possible anyway, some will have cap room, can take on a big salary if they need to.

Pelfrey might get you points on a HR/9 value, but we'll see on that. No, the drop deadline was like 2/1 or something. Can drop guys, but I think they still count halfway against the cap. I didn't really overbid on much, probably because since I couldn't nominate none of the guys were "my guys". Hopefully now that I have more money and I can sorta scare you guys away Tuesday night from the filler I want.
-
Tuesday at like 8:30 again I think we said. We're most of the way there. We'll have a couple of low-end bidding wars to come, and then probably a lot of nominating guys for $1 and everyone else passing to fill out the roster.

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Well had I done any preparation it's all gone to shit now. Jose Bautista: good. Verlander: good Ivan Nova: scrub Alex Rodriguez: injury prone and washed up. Miguel Cabrera often number 1 pick overall. (I did no prep either. I recommend everyone load up a Yahoo or ESPN or mlb or something preranking grid for the sake of knowing the top players.)

Nah, ottoneu doesn't offer that type of flexibility.

Tomorrow! The auction draft window is viewable if you want to get a sense for the controls. Anyone got any questions?

TransMonk wrote: Got it. I'm reading through on all the stuff on Fangraphs and it sounds fun. The last time I played fantasy baseball was 1991. I was the youngest owner in a keeper league that held a live auction. Back then I would wait for the Sporting News to come out on the weekend that listed all of the stats for all of the teams and then I would look all of my players up and keep their stats by hand each week. The commissioner would release standings every month printed by a service on a dot-matrix printer. I haven't played since the advent of internet stat compiling. I'm looking forward to it, but am admittedly a bit rusty on the process. I'll brush up and be ready to go on Thursday. This is the first time for roughly all of us I think. (I multi'tasked an auction last week)

TransMonk wrote: Is this NL only or both leagues? the entire subset of major and minor league players included guys that aren't current (I imagine Andy Pettitte was already in there somewhere for example) I believe only major league players on the active roster accumulate stats though, but you've got a 40 man roster, and if you want to snag, say Bryce Harper, in the hopes that he'll be good at the end of this year or next year, that's your prerogative. I grabbed Nieuwenhuis in another league for instance.

bmfc1 wrote: Ceetar--I apologize but I can't participate this year. No big deal, maybe you can swipe a team next year if someone drops out. speaking of which, we have 11. 1 more fills the league..takers? I may post it to twitter and cherry pick a 12th if we don't find one, just for completeness sake.

Good. 2 spots left, I suppose we should try to fill them but I'm not sure it matters. Everyone still good on the 3/22 8:30 pm draft time/date? It's not really something you can miss. There's some time to work the free agent auction after the draft, but probably not to fill a competitive team.

I didn't change anything and I don't see anywhere I can even change/update the password. It claims there are still 3 spots available. Tell him to try again and if not let me know his team/account name and I'll email them about it.
