  1. I'd be prepared to go Your CHOICE OF Milledge & Humber/Pelfrey Maine/Perez & Gomez PLUS AN OTHER (in the AN Other section i'm thinking along the lines of a Gotay) for Santana. alllowing for negotiation of the contract extension. I reckon that's about as far as I can go with ML Ready/ML Upside talent, prospects lower down the track you could swap in/out as far as i'm concerned.
  2. what about maine/perez? should we be prepared to give one of them up and if so which?

    It's Rollins

well Joe Sheehan constructed a decent argument for Pujols and then Wright. He also made exact reference that Wright had a fan freakin' tastic September and the Mets would have never got to being in contention on the last day without him.
  4. there's been lots of whinging about Torreabla's arm, but before his shoulder problems at the start of this season, he'd thrown out nearly 40% of baserunners against him. I don't necessarily buy this whole great at calling and blocking stuff, however, I'm willing to imagine that there's actually more to it then sabremetrics might tell ya and if the greatest single item which influences the winning/losing of a game is the pitching then there is a value attributable to that. Not sure it'd make up for having Rey Ordonez in the lineup though.
  5. I don't know why but i'm pretty underwhelmed by Pelfrey, so I picked keep Humber by default.
  6. Carlos Silva strikes out less then 4 men per 9 innings. I fear that, unless someone's shown me a sustained and prolonged track record. Carlos Silva has not. The difference between his good years and his bad years is mostly BABIP or giving up dingers. I don't think (but I don't know) that he's the kind of extreme sinker ball pitcher that gets lotsa groundouts all the time. I wouldn't go with either, but if you put a gun to my head i'll go with Lohse.
  7. i'm really not sold on gomez so if someone else can be, I'm game for parting with him. Milledge is going to be an average or above average major leaguer, whether or not he blossoms into being a star i don't know, but I certainly reckon he's far more likely to have long term value then Gomez
  8. Glavine, Castillo & LoDuca. The issue with LoDuca is going multiple years at a high price tag, his salary this year was $6 million odd, even if he won a raise to $7 million he wouldn't be a millstone, nor would he prevent you signing someone if there was anyone worth signing long term (which there isn't really). Same applies (but less so because there are other 2nd base options internally) with Castillo. Glavine is worth having at a decent price. Green, I don't think we should offer arb too ,the minimum he'd get would about 8 million, i don't think that's good value.
  9. were reporting that someone else was reporting that the TWINS were interested in Carlos Gomez. Now, I'd be giving up Gomez and/or one of Humber & Pelfrey to get Santana even if there was no extension window. Can't imagine it being enough, so how far WOULD you go...
  10. what's surprising to me, is that nobody's making a big deal out of the fact that this is apparently Cameron's SECOND positive test. If you didn't get the message that YOU NEED TO BE VERY CAREFUL with what you take by the first one. Bummer for him though, he's become a tough sell. A 34 year old free agent centre fielder who's banner for the first 15% of the season - and has failed two drugs tests. Unless he's got the same agent as Guillermo Mota he's have trouble getting a decent deal
  11. well if someone would update their Mets 25 man roster 2008 we'd get a better picture of all that wouldn't we.
  12. people who emerge from different directions more often then most. It's probably something to do with the simple attrition rate of the position and the complex demands that it has. Of course it's highly unlikely that he'll every be more then an AA player but there's nothing wrong with taking a whirl
  13. i'd see how willing Roderiguez was about moving to 2nd. He's proved he can move around the infield already. I'd have in my head that he might well move to first in 4-5 years. I'd be going up to 7 years at around the 30ish too.
  14. i ended up trying to watch some of last nights game in bed on the laptop. It was scheduled for an 8pm start, I don't think there was a pitch thrown till after 8.30 (that's 1.30am my time) and I was asleep by the second inning.
  15. when you're hoping that Ron Villone is going to be some kind of bullpen saviour over TWO games you know you're in trouble one way or the other
  16. i think i would throw up every time jimmy rollins came to the plate though.
  17. in VORP terms David Wright has had the best season by a met ever (and a late season tear would increase his lead too).

And you dead right in regards to athletes ,interesting how Mendoza line said yesterday that he hoped someone sat Milledge down to watch tape of the Bradley incident and Keith repeated the same thing when Gary mentioned Bradley during the game last night. a couple of divisions below the orchard although I have been given the run around by them in a cup game (one of the lads playing that day went on to play at Blackburn & is currently at Rotherham via Sheffield Wednesday). Decent standard of ball but with the odd crap player thrown in, we're in a rebuilding phase at present but hopefully we'll be back one division up before i retire!
  19. lets not forget our old buddy Angel Hernandez. However, I'll say this, for a professional athlete to basically try and assault someone for verbal insults is ridiculous. You're a big guy, getting paid a lot of money, your responsibility is not to react in those situations, but to report it to the crew chief and whoever is up the disciplinary chain and get the guy disciplined. I got sent off the other week for reacting to a terrible tackle, I didn't hurt the guy or anything like it, but I did react and I deserved to get sent off as a result. I let myself down & my team down (we lost in extra time - it was a cup game) and cost us a victory. Members of a team have a responsibility to the team, not to do something stupid that impacts the teams capacity to win, even if that means biting your lip.
  20. fwiw's bp's numbers have him being way better defensively this season, he's also stolen MORE bases (11 so far) and got caught at a lower rate . don't think he's really taken a step backward more treaded some water with the bat as he refines his approach and lets not forget what a leap he took forward last season.
  21. jose reyes = very good player jose reyes 2006 eqa .288 : jose reyes 2007 eqa .285 jose reyes not the mets biggest problem by any means jose reyes is not equal first coming of the messiah

I think for the brand that's a good thing, for players to taste a bit of success on the long way up is a good thing but there's just no point in getting excited about the numbers, nor any reason for someone to hang around there more then a season.

are these 12/09/1983 which means he's almost 24 and therefore way to old for short season ball. hey, I know catchers can mature late and all, but he's gotta be producing at a higher level than that by now.
