  2. I feel like it has to still count for *something*, though. You can't have an out without someone catching the ball.
  3. HOLY MOLEY the movement on that pitch is BANANAS.
  4. Frayed Knot wrote: at a loss to explain just as I am to find a reason for this year's sudden turnaround. It's because the DH is stupid and karma is finally catching up to the AL.
  5. Edgy MD wrote: The Braves have given up on trying to make a thirdbaseman out of José Bautista again, or even trying to make a ballplayer, as he has been cut loose. The Mets might be interested in auditioning him as an outfielder for a few weeks if the money is right, but he's likely donedy-done. That was my first thought too, but dude's got nothing left in the tank.
  6. Someone get me the Ducks on line one. Jordany Valdespin .406/.455/.710 Emilio Bonifacio .483/.484/.655

  8. Lagares to miss the rest of the year with a torn toe ligament, sez the internet.
  9. Ceetar wrote: I have no trouble trolling the Twins. No. Leave the Twins here in Rochester and stick the Nationals far away.
  10. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Zach's the John Pacella of this generation. He just needs a gimmick, like having his hat fall off all the time.
  11. Me too. He'd easily be our #3 starter right now, sadly. (Sigh.)

I'll never be able to prove this but I truly believe that the Mets booth's recent baseball card routine is based on the baseball card threads I used to post here with one time Mets in the unis of the Mets opponents. I remain convinced that someone on the broadcast team lurks here. It's not GKR, but it's someone.
  13. Edgy MD wrote: Curtis Pride came 23 years after Bill Faul retired. And Jimmy Bloodworth is listed at 180 pounds, whereas Chris Waters weighed in at only 170.

Chain of Teammates From Justin Smoak to Mike Fiers Justin Smoak played with Oliver Perez for the 2013 Seattle Mariners Oliver Perez played with Mike Fiers for the 2015 Houston Astros There's a "reliever coming in to pour gasoline on a fire" joke somewhere... Also, wait. B-R says Smoak is 1-10 with 5 K's against Fiers.

  17. Centerfield wrote: d'Kong76 wrote: The TV booth said the Mets believe now that there is enough of a window to get this one in. Wheeler is starting to wobble. Have the Mets changed their mind after that HR? Because I feel like it's dangerous for the players to be out there. Everyone should just go home and get a good night's sleep. Start this game over on a common off day. Seriously. This would be an ideal time to start stalling.
  18. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: More like BLOW-baton, amirite?!? If on April 16, at 12-2 with the limping Nationals coming into town, you told me that by mid-May, our 5-6-7 batters would be: Phil Evans – LF Luis Guillorme – 3B Jose Lobaton – C ...

It was absolutely the right move, he by all logical accounts had years and years left of high, perhaps great, production, especially given that his profile fits so well into the juiced ball era. The guy would've hit 40 home runs in 2016. It was absolutely the right move, on any level, to re-sign him. Only a team doing a complete tear down we actively want to lose games for 4 years to get picks would even consider it. Absolutely.
  20. I'm sort of fascinated by the new cussin' Cooby. Good times.
  21. smg58 wrote: I expect him to stay when Frazier comes off the DL. Jose, it's been nice knowing you. From your fingers to Sandy's eyes, friend.
  22. batmagadanleadoff wrote: The Wright signing set this team back immeasurably. First there was the stud prospect Sandy could've presumably flipped Wright for. Then the way Wright held 3B in limbo these last years as the Mets hoped for Wright's return to all star form -- and this is 3B, on the soft end of the defensive spectrum, where in today's game, a big market team should be getting all star if not MVP offense from. This is (partially) wrong. There's no way they would have flipped Wright for prospects. None whatsoever. He was coming off a season where he finished sixth in the MVP voting, and he *was* the franchise at that point. Only once had he played in less than 144 games in a season. Any team would offer that deal 99 times out of 100.
  23. The case is made, though, and it makes some reasonable semblance of sense, that "New York fans need to have a winner." A Mets team that wins 60 games a year for three or four seasons doesn't sell season tickets, whereas "THIS MIGHT BE THE YEAR" does, at least a little bit.
