  1. You know, that orange double-bag isn't a *terrible* idea.
  2. Anyone who votes for any of the Syndergaard-in-MFY-gear covers gets an instant forum lifetime ban.
  3. Maybe not, but *this* team? Young, likable players, with lots of position flexibility? Wowee.
  4. Jeez, Bobby V would be *perfect* for this team, wouldn't he? Wow.
  5. Let's not act like this shithead is the only shithead. MLB is filthy with shitheads. When they get called out like this? Great. Eff that guy. Enjoy umpiring beer league softball for $20 a night instead. For what it's worth, Stro has only had Drake behind the plate once, and he gave up eleven hits in 6 2/3 in a game the Jays would lose because (ha!) Roberto Osuna blew the save. (See? Filthy with shitheads.)
  6. Frayed Knot wrote: Why do I get the feeling that a 'Wilderness Year' from G-FaFiF is defined as one where he can only remember the details from around 140 games that season? LOL! "Yeah, I only saw maybe two-thirds of Andy Tomberlin's at-bats that season."
  7. Because as always, CF and I are the same, it was "college in western New York in the mid-90s" that did it for me. I have only vague recollections of the 1993-1997 seasons, but in 1997, I started going to dozens of Rochester Red Wings games, so I became familiar with guys like Benny Agbayani and Jay Payton, so in 1999 when we'd moved back down to Long Island, we were already all in.
  8. "Statistics Cannot Measure His True Value, Except His Statistics Are Seriously Terrible, Which Now That We Really Look At It Means He Doesn't Bring All That Much Value, As It Turns Out." What "value" did Tim Bogar bring, exactly? Nobody was buying tickets to see Tim Bogar play. They didn't have BOGAR 11 shirseys for sale in the team store. Goodness, those were lean years.
  9. Benjamin Grimm wrote: I don't know if Jessica Mendoza meets my definition of bombshell. She's certainly prettier than Joe Torre. "'It's hard to say what she looked like; kind of like Joe Torre with tits.' This joke can only be explained by a picture of Joe Torre, but none exist because he breaks camera lenses." -Jim Bouton
  10. Also, this is pretty terrible.

  12. I stared at "Victor Davis" for a good thirty seconds trying to figure out who you were referring to, and then - aha! - I remembered Victor Diaz.
  13. I don't know - I could go either way on this. Davis is a third baseman by trade, though, so I guess I'd lean toward him there.
  14. Astros in 5. I think they're just too good, all the way up and down the lineup, and I don't trust anyone in the Nationals pen. But good golly, there are some starting pitchers in this Series.
  15. I have friends on both sides here, and it certainly would be fun to see the Nats win sans Harper, but I guess I lean toward the Astros.
  16. =G-Fafif post_id=24627 time=1571336288 user_id=55] Mike Puma reports Mets management that came along last fall isn't bringing Edgardo Alfonzo back as Cyclones manager, opting for “their own people,” whatever the fuck that means after Fonzie, as Metsie a Met as has ever been, certainly in the past quarter-century, managed Brooklyn to its first outright NY-Penn title. (No coda like, “instead you're coming to the big club!” attached.)
  17. "Where the heck would Skaggs get those kind of drugs? Those are the kind of things you'd find in some seedy NYC bar at 3am." "Wait, I have an idea."
  18. "I'm just here to talk about Qualcomm."
  19. He's not a guy who's going up there to walk. He wants to swing. I listened to his Rain Delay Theater podcast episodes on the plane the other day, and he talked about how he's willing to take what the defense throws at him and work with it. If they want to shift, he'll hit the other way. His OBP says otherwise, but he's not a new-school leadoff guy, or even a #2 guy. He's a middle of the order make something happen guy.
  20. I do remember the Boggs thing, but that was also 1987, which was a juiced ball year. So there's that. I have been really impressed by McNeil's ability to adapt; I think he can be both. To answer your question, I prefer the first, but somewhere in the middle of those two for the next several years is going to be *fantastic.*
  21. =HahnSolo post_id=23740 time=1570197785 user_id=63] =seawolf17 post_id=23735 time=1570193204 user_id=91] This kind of scouting is NOT going to get me the manager's job next year. Pizzano finished the season with the Somerset Patriots in the Atlantic League.
  22. I'm going to go way the hell out on a limb and pick Dario Pizzano. Who the hell is Dario Pizzano, you ask? I had no idea either until I looked at our https://www.baseball-reference.com/teams/NYM/2019.shtmlspring training stats and thought "who the hell is Dario Pizzano?" Dude went .272/.348/.425 across two levels in 2017, and .285/.361/.433 in AA in 2018. Doesn't seem to do anything exceptionally well (averages <10 HR a season, doesn't steal bases), but he makes good contact (average K and BB numbers). Played college ball at Columbia, so he's not afraid of NYC. 28 years old in April, so it's time to take the next step. Rise to the occasion, Dario! This kind of scouting is NOT going to get me the manager's job next year. Pizzano finished the season with the Somerset Patriots in the Atlantic League.
  23. =batmagadanleadoff post_id=23646 time=1570125893 user_id=68] I thought he'd be great at handling the bullpen because, well, because he said all the right things. And because over his last two seasons at Cleveland, the Tribe had arguably the best reliever in baseball over that time, Andrew Miller, who had comparatively few saves and was used like an elite reliever oughtta be used -- in high leverage situations, to hell with the save. I guess that was the manager's thing and not Callaway the pitching coach's thing -- at least going by the way he handled the Mets pen.
  24. =Centerfield post_id=23643 time=1570125540 user_id=65] Went fishing with Don Jr. about ten seconds into his regime. We shoulda known then.
  25. The Mets haven't hired an "experienced" manager in more than 20 years -- and that's saying something. Think about that sentence instead of just glossing over it as if it were a cliche. And now Jeff Wilpon has major input into things. He's a bully at heart and so he wouldn't want an experienced manager. And an experienced manager has options and if he's got options, why the fuck would he want to manage for this dysfunctional train wreck of an organization? Surprise me. The only guy they hired before Callaway with no experience was a guy who has the second highest winning percentage in team history, Willie Randolph.
