  1. I vote 20 games (in either '05 or '06) for position eligibility, but 15 is fine. Whatever Yahoo allows. We definitely need some kind of one- or two-day waiver system; Yahoo definitely has one of those.
  2. I sat with ten guys on my DL at one point last season; I feel your pain. But if we have a deep league with this many teams, I think we need to free up as many free agents as possible, or we'll never get any movement.
  3. Kevin McReynolds will always be number one for me, but I know that's a personal ranking, not a general Mets fanbase one. How about Al Leiter?
  4. Plus, I believe Furcal was quoted as saying he "ain't going to no Mets."
  5. Depends on the final number of teams, methinks. Figure there are about 15 "usable" players per team, x 30 MLB teams = 450 players, give or take a few. Distribute those players among twenty fantasy teams, that's 22ish players per team. I'd go: c, 1b, 2b, 3b, ss, 3 of, ut, 7 p (you break them down however you'd like, within a minimum innings requirement). That's 16 starters. Allow nine bench players, plus no more than 2-3 DL slots; you want to encourage player movement.
  6. Elster, you should really change your sig to read "Creator of Asshead".
  7. Roto would be fascinating in a 20-team league, I think. The talent will be spread so thin (in theory) that the standings will likely fluctuate pretty wildly.
  8. Considering I never win these things anyway, I guess I'll vote free also.
  9. A case could be made for Gary Carter, Mike Piazza, and Keith Hernandez.
  10. ]"He's not crazy about New York, but he said he would go there if that was the only way to get out of Boston. He's just fed up with people bothering him all the time, showing up at his house." Hey, guess what? You're a celebrity. You don't want people noticing you, then retire and move to Montana. ]In 2005, he batted only .237 with the bases empty, but his average zoomed to .346 with runners on. What a great stat! I'm too lazy to look up his career numbers, but that's fascinating.
  11. Okay, I'm stumped. I can't figure out what's wrong with those cards.
  12. I'd be in. It's a little crazy being in multiple leagues, but I'm thinking about punting my other league next season anyway (I spent the last eight seasons as a commissioner, and I'm spent.) FWIW, I'm really impressed with CBS Sportsline's fantasy services; they get better every season. There is a fee, but if we split it among all of us it's not bad -- a $20 entry fee each will cover the site fee and a small prize at the end of the season for the champ. Screw the "No Yanks/Braves" thing. Too confusing. Since we're pretty scattered, I'm assuming we'd do some sort of online draft, which would lead itself much more easily to doing a regular snake draft, as opposed to an auction draft. We've played HTH my entire fantasy baseball career, and I'm definitely ready for a change -- I'd go 5x5.
  13. Hey! Even "Brandon" Looper makes another appearance! I like the little minor league guys. Funny.
  14. The bad news is that they're our best options right now.
  15. Great! Omar loves one-horse races. I bet he doubles his offer to Wagner now. Wags: Well, Omar, I really like your offer, and I think I'm going to accept it. Omar: Three years, $30 million. Wags: Sure. That's great. Where do I sign? Omar: Four years, $70 million. Wags: No, seriously, I'm ready to sign. Omar: Five years, $150 million, we name the new ballpark Wagner Stadium. Wags: Um... I guess so. Can I sign now? Omar: Okay, fine! Five years, $200 million.
  16. I think this is a good move for both teams. The White Sox are covered if they don't bring back Konerko, and the Phils save money that can be used to re-sign Wagner.
  17. ="Johnny Dickshot"]Buster Olney on the radio reporting the Phils close to sending Thome to the White Sox for Rowland. Kelly Rowland? That's a helluva deal for the Phils. I didn't know the White Sox had her rights.
  18. Valadius wrote: That's my point. And he always seems to have 100 RBI by the All-Star break and finishes with like 140. Perhaps that's a factor of the guys in front of him "shitting the bed" after the ASB, not him. Either way... when was the last time we had a 1B who drove in 140 runs and had a September OPS over 1.000? That would be never.
  19. Stop ruining people's opinions with facts, guys.
  20. The salary thing got a little screwy the first off-season. I set up a salary cap, just to see what would happen. The game offers you a 30-day signing period; each day, you can make whatever offers you want to make, then you process each day individually and guys make their choices. Apparently, everybody was selling tickets, because the following deals got signed: Barry Zito - LA - 7 years, $30 million per Jason Marquis - TEX - 4 years, $21 million per Alfonso Soriano - SF - 3 years, $17 million per Toby Hall - CHW - 3 years, $15 million per Kyle Farnsworth - MIN - 4 years, $13 million per Things got better last offseason, but Fake Me is eligible for free agency after this season, and apparently, I lowballed myself, because I'm refusing to sign an extension. So I'm going to have to wait and see how things play out this winter.
  21. I'm not so much into the historical aspect; I like to take a team and run with it -- make trades, sign free agents, stuff like that. Out Of The Park has a crazy detailed stat engine and a pretty complex financial/roster system, combined with good managerial gameplay. It's not graphically based; you can't play pitch by pitch and manually move the fielders around, but you make all the managerial decisions. It's the closest I've found to Front Page Sports: Baseball, which I LOVED until Sierra stopped supporting it. Glad to see I'm not the only one who likes creating himself; I created myself as a second baseman, but Matsui has actually been really good, so I slid myself over to first. (David Wright has started the 2007 season .208/.258/.376 through 149 AB. Ugly.)
  22. I once caught a fish this big!
  23. Zvon wrote: ="heep"]Ok. Rationalize this with me. Perfect example: Wagner's offer. Who determines this? Jeff or Minaya? I say both. But who ultimately has the final say? Stedman LOL
  24. Edgy DC wrote: We swing heavily toward rightnanded hitting these days.. 3 SH 3 RH 2 LH ??
  25. Hey, as long as Valadius gets one nickname out of this off-season, he's a happy man.
