  1. I wanted to post a photo of Raul Ibanez, my latest trade crush, and found this one online: The photo's weird and I don't understand the lolcats caption, but I like the look inside the scoreboard there with the numbers hanging on the wall. Is that Camden or Safeco? Either way, I want to sit right there. Either way, I vote Ibanez.
  2. Greg -- How could you like Doug Sisk more than Danny Heep? msilva -- I forgot to ask you to ask Danny why he hasn't returned the baseball card I sent him to sign.
  3. [whine]"Are you Derek Jeeeeeter?"[/whine] Never, Ford. Never, ever, ever, ever. Dumbasses.
  4. There's probably some truth to that, but they have to check him out, right? There has to be some injury, even if it's minor. You can't just stash guys on the DL indiscriminately.
  5. Look at Keef's old man glasses. Ms. Wolf: "He looks more like a librarian than I do."
  6. Let the record show yet again that I plan on bawling like a six-year-old with a dead kitten when they tear down Shea Stadium.
  7. Damn, that's pretty. I honestly didn't think the Mets would sniff first place this season.
  8. Omar Vizquel, despite being Julio Franco's babysitter, still makes it look easy at short.
  9. Hell, if all they wanted were B- and C-level prospects, the Mets had plenty of those. I like Harden.
  10. I'll preview the ASG.
  11. Wasn't Plummer -- also mentioned in the press conference as a big factor -- that guy who just died? edit: Looper, by the way, would go just below Tom Gordon on that chart at 83%.
  12. I'm too lazy to make this into a real table, but here are some current (and recent) closers, ranked by conversion percentage (saves + holds divided by opportunities): saves, holds, blown saves, conversion pct Gagne 187 5 15 92.75% Nathan 186 20 20 91.15% Hoffman 540 16 66 89.39% Rivera 466 29 59 89.35% F Rodriguez 181 34 28 88.48% Papelbon 98 7 14 88.24% Lidge 142 58 27 88.11% Percival 343 36 55 87.33% Wagner 378 7 61 86.32% Benitez 289 66 59 85.75% Cordero 128 11 24 85.28% T Jones 317 100 73 85.10% Isringhausen 292 2 54 84.48% Gordon 158 122 54 83.83% I'm considering a hold a conversion, because if you enter in save situation and don't screw it up, that's doing your job. edit: Taking holds out doesn't appreciably change the order -- everyone on this list is within a point or two of where they are now -- but it makes Tom Gordon look like crap.

  14. What the hell are you talking about?

("They won the damn game") My sentiments were reflected by a quote from the late great Pirate announcer Bob Prince, who said in similar circumstances, "We had 'em all the way". (Except I never refer to teams I root for as "we") Later They played the Murphy clip after the "last out" highlight on the FAN this morning. Classic, classic, classic. What's odd is that I remember that game as the Mario Diaz Game, since he's the guy who caught the final out.
  17. You know, fuck you, Hiroki Kuroda. Fuck you in your fucking head. First Billy Fucking Wagner and Jon Fucking Papelbon blow my win last week, then I cut Kuroda Sunday afternoon to create space to bring Carlos Zambrano off the IR, and he fucking goes and does this. Fantasy baseball sucks.
  18. Eh, I care and I don't. I really have no malice toward Vagina Boy; I wanted him to do well, because I know he had the stuff to do it. He was just crushed by expectations.
  19. Problem is, of COURSE it's about the Yankees, because they're obviously the ones to whom it will matter when World Series time comes around. And wouldn't they want Mariano Rivera to be the one who decided home-field advantage? I don't even know why they play the World Series any more. Haven't the Yankees won it more times than anyone else? What's the point?
  20. Frayed Knot wrote: ="soupcan"]Gary just said MRI of Church's neck and head came back negative. So they examined his head and found nothing? That's not a good sign. They didn't even find a neck, which is really disturbing. No wonder he's having pain.
  21. I'd even take a 3-2 loss if we get six quality innings from Pedro. He may not be PEDRO any longer, but they need him to be something if they're going to come back and win this thing -- and splitting four games in Philly, whereas it's not ideal, is not the end of the world either, especially considering the Fish are on a tough West Coast swing right now and our guys are heading home to face two teams they should be able to beat.
  22. smg58 wrote: We're closer to Philadelphia than to Milwaukee, so at this point I see no reason to worry about the wildcard. Sabathia has very clearly righted his ship after a horrible start to the season, so he looks to be a huge asset for Milwaukee. The Cubs and the Cardinals are now in a position where they're almost forced to counter if they wish to keep up. Do they want Oliver Perez? How about a WFAN-style Perez-and-Delgado-for-Pujols trade?
  23. Jamie Burke, Mariners backup C, proves he's no Brent Mayne, as he takes the loss, pitching in the 15th inning. How do you run out of pitchers in the AL? Bad planning, fellas.
