John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: ="Benjamin Grimm"]I received a free promotional copy of his book last year, but I can't bring myself to read a book that's titled "Everything Happens For A Reason." Yeah, the title makes it seem like it's going to try and convert you to Southern Baptism, but its not like that at all. It's actually a really nice, interesting book and worth reading. Yep, I'll second that. It's not a great piece of baseball literature, but it's a quick read.

I suggest we trade him to Europe.

="Gwreck":34kf2x80]Proceeds from the Mets share of net revenues generated through the sale of seat pairs will be donated to the Mets Foundation, which will distribute the funds to various charities.[/quote:34kf2x80] Such as the Wilpon Mets Fan Ass-Ramming Foundation, the Ed Kranepool? Never Heard Of Him Society, and the Coalition To Provide Fancy Private Education For Anyone Named Wilpon. soupcan Aug 05 2008 12:14 PM That's fine and all that the proceeds are going to charity but Joe Fan has been getting so screwed lately you think they could've thrown him a bone here. John Cougar Lunchbucket Aug 05 2008 12:21 PM It's a well-known fact that contributions to ass-ramming-related charities decline in times of economic turmoil, so we should thank the Metys for doing their part. The 24 mills figure vs. the 20 million purchase price for the team was just a comparison, that's all. But it shows what an ass-ramming that investment has become! seawolf17 Aug 05 2008 12:23 PM Y'all need to stop deluding yourself that the Wilpons give a rat's ass what we think. Nymr83 Aug 05 2008 12:24 PM i'm curious what share of this the city of new york, which owns the place, is getting. given the city's budget problems i'd hope they drove a hard bargain with the mets, and shouldnt they have a responsibility to the public to sell off city property for as much as they can get? metirish Aug 05 2008 12:24 PM I expect Hank will be looking for a lot more for seats at MFY II and the seats where Jeter tumbled into will be going to the Smithsonian. AG/DC Aug 05 2008 12:31 PM For what it's worth, the Mets foundatoin, though it may well be the front suggested above, is not a front of Wilpon's creation, as it dates back to 1963. themetfairy Aug 05 2008 01:04 PM ="soupcan"] If you bought some what are you doing with them anyway - putting them in your living room...? We put our seats from the Vet around our baseball diamond shaped patio - metsguyinmichigan Aug 05 2008 01:09 PM Best. Backyard. Ever. Brewers did a nice job, putting something at everyone's price point. You could get bricks for $10, and even small vials of infield dirt. As for the Shea seats, they can't sell all 56,000 of them. The reason: They're connected. They can sell two, then waste one, then two more, then waste one, and so on. Now, the plastic seat parts that was wasted, you'd think they could sell those, too. I'd pay a couple bucks for one! AG/DC Aug 05 2008 01:11 PM That third seat is probably what they made my cufflinks out of. themetfairy Aug 05 2008 01:12 PM Thanks Michigan. Our plan all along has been to purchase four Shea chairs, then move two of the Vet chairs to the third base side so we can have home and away seating. Yeah, I'm still going ahead with it. Despite the crazy money. I know it's insane, but I'll kick myself for years if I pass on it. dgwphotography Aug 05 2008 01:20 PM I was looking at buying a pair - when I was a kid, our local state rep had a pair of seats from the original Yankee Stadium in his basement, and I always wanted to get a pair from Shea. But, at that price, I can buy the new oven we need instead. Benjamin Grimm Aug 05 2008 01:22 PM Hey, welcome back Iubby. You haven't been around here much lately! [/quote:2veh4ilu] are you daring to suggest that the present yankee stadium is not the original? Gwreck Aug 05 2008 01:52 PM Looks like the sale will be open to everybody (with priority to season ticket holders): http://newyork.mets.mlb.com/nym/ballpark/save_a_piece.jsp themetfairy Aug 05 2008 01:55 PM I called. They're only selling to full season and larger season plan holders right now. They'll get around to the smaller plan holders (like Sunday plan holders) eventually - they wouldn't give me a time frame. I will say this - $869 a pair is high, but it does include shipping. We had to go down to the Vet to get those chairs, and they were pretty cumbersome to transport. Gwreck Aug 05 2008 01:57 PM Check out the link, TMF. They'll be offering it to plan holders starting on Monday, 8/18. You won't get your actual seats but it appears you can at least choose the color you want. I should add that it's very much like the Mets to say they have "no information" only to be contradicted by their own website. themetfairy Aug 05 2008 02:00 PM ="Gwreck":3gqv4gw2]Check out the link, TMF. G-Fafif Aug 06 2008 02:52 AM The missus and I were having this conversation the night before we learned of the plan. I said I could see buying one seat for like $350, with $500 the absolute upper limit of what I would spend in total (and I don't really have a discretionary seat fund at my fingertips). When we read the details, I'm like "forget it," but she's like "you'll regret it if you don't," and I'm like, "yeah, but who needs two?" Well, she said, we do. Where we gonna put two seats from Shea Stadium? I asked. Somewhere, she said. I've created a well-meaning monster. themetfairy Aug 06 2008 05:42 AM Of course you need two. Unless you're Archie Bunker, and you're the only one who's going to be allowed to sit on the good chair. bmfc1 Aug 06 2008 06:17 AM Cerrone cleverly reasons that the pricing was based on famous Mets years: "i assume the established price is a combination of the numbers 86 and 69, as in 1986 and 1969, the two seasons during which the Mets won a World Seriesvery clever" If the MFYs do that, they'll stick their dopey fans for $2,600. Gwreck Dec 05 2008 08:42 PM Congrats! --- The Mets are still offering these seats for sale -- I wonder how many they actually sold. Fucking hell, Mets.

Hey, I tried to warn the Mets about Loretta.
-
Or you could double into the corner. That'd be okay too. I think Keith is off his meds tonight; he's extra silly.
-
You know what, Carlos? If they're going to overshift in the sixth inning when you're leading off, you drop a bunt on their ass. This isn't a home run situation anyway. Get on base, baby.
-
But for major league pitching, not so much.
-
Ah, for fuck's sake, Pedro, cut it out with the fucking home runs.
-
Doesn't mean I can't have one. Go to the game and send me a pack. You know, these little dink and dunk hits just drive you crazy... unless they're for your team, in which case they're awesome.

I like this Tatis kid. Gonna be a good player.

Someone get me a Lance Berkman bobblehead so I can paint my name over his. And someone go on August 6 and get me a Mets baseball card pack.

"I Know Where You Live" The Mets are 14-13 since the opening of Enron/Minute Maid Park in Houston. As Mets at this park: * Ramon Castro is 6-for-12. * Carlos Delgado is 11-27 with a pair of home runs. * Jose Reyes is 18-59, but with only three XBH (two doubles and a triple). * David Wright is 12-41 with a home run. "Vengeance Is Mine" Current Ex-Stros: Carlos Beltran, Billy Wagner. Both are personae non grata in Houston these days, and should both expect lusty boos. Current Ex-Mets: Kaz Matsui, David "Fat Trax" Newhan, and Ty Wigginton could make up an almost entire ex-Met infield. (Jose Valverde spent 2007-2012 with my Out Of The Park (computer baseball game) Mets before signing a big free agent deal with Washington; he's currently the all-time OOTP Baseball career saves leader, retiring in 2021 with 515 saves. I don't think that really counts here, though.) "Wake The Dead" The Astros have as many old guys contributing as the Mets do, with 41-year-old Doug Brocail as an important bullpen cog and catcher Brad Ausmus manning the fort for youngsters Humberto Quintero and JR Towles, neither of whom can apparently hit their way out of a paper bag, never mind hit major league pitching. "Catch Me If You Can" Around the East this weekend, the Phillies are in St. Louis playing the fading Cardinals, and the Marlins host the woeful Colorado Rockies. "(In Touch With) Your Feminine Side" Second baseman Mark Loretta has historically hit the Mets pretty well, including 3-for-6 against Pedro Martinez as a Met and 3-for-4 against Pedro Feliciano. "Wrapped In Silk" Carlos Lee and Lance Berkman are the big boppers for the Astros. Lee leads the team with 24 homers, good for ninth in the NL; Berkman is second with 24. Hunter Pence is third with 14, and Miguel Tejada has 11. "Killed By Love" The other important name to know for the future is Hunter Pence, The Next Big Thing for the Astros. Pence came up to great fanfare last year, hitting .322/.360/.539 (a 130 OPS+), wearing his stirrups high, driving Houston women crazy, and finishing third in the Rookie of the Year voting. "I'm Hungry" Pedro's back! But he'll be on a pitch count of 80 tonight, returning from a stiff shoulder/pulled groin and the death of his father. He'll face Brandon Backe tonight, against whom current Mets have hit under .200. Tomorrow night will see a matchup of aces, as Johan Santana faces Roy Oswalt. Oswalt is 8-8, 4.67 on the season, who's one start in -- a five inning, four run effort against Milwaukee -- since returning from a short DL stint. Sunday afternoon will see new Astro Randy Wolf, Met Killer, face either John Maine or Oliver Perez. Wolf is 10-5, 3.35 in 17 starts against the Mets in his career, most of them with the Phillies. As a Padre, he beat the Mets, 2-1, on June 6 in San Diego, Game Two of the awful San Diego sweep that hastened the departure of former manager Willie Randolph. "The One That Got Away" Probably the best known Metstro is Nolan Ryan, but the list of players who have played with both clubs since their mutual inception in 1962 reads like a who's who of baseball: Tommie Agee, Pedro Astacio, Derek Bell "Sucks", Roger Cedeno, Chris "He Did Steroids?" Donnels, Octavio Dotel, Carl Everett, Sid Fernandez, John Franco (remember?), Doc Gooden, Jerry Grote, Mike Hampton, Pete Harnisch, Danny Heep, Steve Henderson, Richard Hidalgo, Jeff Kent, Ray Knight, Jose Lima, Dave Magadan, Pedro Martinez (no, the other one), Kaz Matsui, Joe McEwing, Dave Mlicki, Joe Sambito, Pete Schourek, Mike Scott, Rusty Staub, Ron Taylor, Frank Thomas, Ryan Thompson, Alex Trevino, Jose Vizcaino, Billy Wagner, Dave Weathers, Dan Wheeler, Ty Wigginton, Preston Wilson, Anthony Young, multiple Alous (Moises & Jesus), and the Great Roberto Petagine -- among quite a few others! -- have called both cities home. "Salvation" Ron Darling apparently stayed in New York this weekend, although I believe there is no longer an outstanding warrant for his arrest due to the 1986 Cooter's incident. Keith and Gary will man the booth on SNY all weekend. "I Am The Spider" The Astros can run, with three players in double digits in steals: Michael Bourn (33), Kaz Matsui (17), and Lance "Seawolf" Berkman (15). They're fifth in the majors in steals with 89. (The Mets, with 100, are second.) "I'll Still Be There" "Tal's Hill" is the crazy Crosley Field-style hill in centerfield, where the flagpole is in play and Carlos Beltran made a crazy circus catch to save what turned out to be a 17-inning win last summer.
-
Almost ready. Waiting on my advance scout's final report.

AG/DC wrote: Yeah, Baltimore is really cool about stocking the parent club with those players. Oh sit, did I just say that? When I was living in Rochester, we hated the O's because they left all the good players in Bowie and gave the Wings crap.
