  1. http://www.theonion.com/articles/true-yankees-regular-yankees-to-now-wear-different,17314/ NEW YORKThe New York Yankees unveiled a new, lesser uniform at a press conference Tuesday in an effort to distinguish ordinary, run-of-the-mill Yankees from the "true Yankee legends who walk among us." "To have Javier Vazquez don the same pinstripes as Mariano Rivera or Jorge Posada iswell, it's unthinkable," Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said as Curtis Granderson modeled the sterile, black-and-white uniform with a large, boxy, non-interlocking "NY" stitched across the front of the chest. "The untrue Yankees will wear a blank, unfitted ball cap until they have their big Yankee moment. They'll wear their last names on the backs of their lesser uniforms as a badge of shame." When asked which uniform he was assigned, Alex Rodriguez cried for 10 minutes.

  3. Here's the thing about "Meet The Mets"... it's the best song of all time. In fact, it's timeless; it's not even worth a discussion.

You've soiled your own dignity with that suggestion. Somewhere in a highly-classy corner of his home, The Greatest Reliever Ever is silently, determinedly judging you. And preparing your invitation to his house for a swim.
  5. Oh, they'd be going apeshit if it was, um, whoever plays for the Angels plowing into one of their guys. Hey, wait: Girardi goes apeshit after Elliot Johnson plows unnecessarily into Francisco Cervelli

All of this deliberation and hesitation and false starts and back and forth over this no-brainer that Reyes should be slotted down one or two slots in the lineup.... And the thing of it is that Jerry doesn't even seem to understand why Reyes shouldn't be batting leadoff. Instead, he seems to have just blundered into the right move. Because the key to this is to have Castillo leading off. It's not so much that Reyes shouldn't be leading off but that Castillo, for reasons already mentioned here about 100 other times, shouldn't be following the leadoff hitter. Just do it already. Or perhaps Dave Magadan. I agree 100% with Castillo leading off.

  8. As a kid, I loved reading the Ron Luciano books, so I love a good umpire fight. Plus I loved watching Bobby trace the steps in the dirt during that BS interference call. I guess I don't know how much, realistically, it really "fires up" the team. I've never quite understood that piece of the logic. But if it works, then cool. Certainly fires up the crowd.
  9. It would never fly, but I wonder if there will ever be a manager who, instead of using the throwing day to just throw on the side, uses a starter in games regularly to throw an inning or so. If the guy has to get his work in anyway, you might as well leverage that into getting outs from him rather than crossing your fingers and hoping Raul Valdes can pull a rabbit out of his ass in a big spot.
  10. Not on the active roster, per se, but to allow him to serve it while on the DL seems odd. If it was, say, a five-game suspension for fighting, I'd think he'd have to serve it when he gets back from the DL, no? Or am I making that up?
  11. They'd think you were talking about the former Vikings WR, who was actually still on Omar's fantasy football team this year. "Well, Cris Carter catches touchdowns, y'know what I'm sayin'?"
  12. I never vote in these polls because I'm afraid Edgy will yell at me. Or it's just that I usually don't watch most of the games, and therefore forget to vote.
  13. I like how they're trying to justify him not g--
  14. Wright looked awful in that AB. Swinging at everything. Ugh. Tough ND for Niese, who pitched well but gives up the run on the fluke single-off-the-pitcher's leg. 1-1, headed to the bottom of the sixth. Let's get 'em, fellas.
  15. Niese has been inspired by the presence of Davis tonight. A little shaky, but he's getting huge K's when he needs them.
  16. Kevin Burkhardt talking with Jim Robinson, who was in the Negro League from 1952-1958. I have two comments. 1) The Negro League lasted until 1958? I had no idea. I was sure it dissolved way before then. 2) I could listen to old ballplayers tell stories all day long.
  17. Ike Davis, on pace to bat 1.000 FOR HIS MAJOR LEAGUE CAREER. Can't wait for his number retirement ceremony this weekend.
  18. Ike's not a single-digit guy. Going off Pop's numbers, I like 53. Be different, man.
  19. I hope I'm reading too deeply into that. Does that mean they nominated Keith specifically for this game? A 10-1 win usually means Keith is complaining about his commute and tossing lollipops into the crowd.
