  1. I enjoyed reading that this morning. Makes me want to carry seven catchers on the roster.
  2. Benjamin Grimm wrote: A 1962 Met, Larry Foss, posted a memory of Gene Woodling today to the UMDB. You going to drop him a note as Val suggested? If not, I will, as I'd like to request if it's okay to mail him a card to be autographed.
  3. Benjamin Grimm wrote: Maybe the Mets would be better served if they put a next-generation Howie/Gary in the booth. A 30-something who grew up rooting for the Mets and has broadcasting chops. (I'm sure there's a bunch to choose from.) This new guy would, presumably, know more about Edgardo Alfonzo than Ken Boswell, but it's not too early to start grooming the guy who will be potentially to voice of a future generation. As I've said, I know little about Wayne Hagin, (including his age) but I'm getting the sense that he's not going to be that guy. Sonovabitch. Knew I should have stayed in radio. Coulda been ME, DAMMIT! ME!
  4. Ceetar's password obviously gets us in a day earlier than COMEBACK does.
  5. Gwreck wrote: (The truly irreplaceable person is Gary) Unquestionably. If I'm the Wilpons, I sign him to a thirty-year, $100 million contract now and make sure some owner/broadcaster elsewhere in the country doesn't get any crazy ideas. The loss of Gary Cohen would be as big of a crushing loss for me as the Mets trading David Wright and Jose Reyes for Derek Jeter and the remains of the dead guy from Mariano Rivera's pool. If not bigger. He's a legend to me; I'm openly jealous that SK is FB friends with his wife.
  6. I picture Hickman uglier (the '63 card), but those new photos make it seem like him. I thought it might be Tim Harkness, but Harkness is a lefty.
  7. Will you people stop requoting that picture? Jeez. metsguyinmichigan wrote: Does Mr. Met have a number on his uniform? You don't remember the Tony Clark thing? He wore 00 for a while, but he said kids kept asking hin why he was wearing Mr. Met's number, so he switched to 52. I don't know when Mr. Met started wearing 00... I assume he was numberless back in the day.
  8. Heard ol' Teddy during the Olympics, and I couldn't remember his name at first. I knew I recognized the voice, but couldn't figure out who he was.
  9. The commercials for Majestic Gardens always make me chuckle. It's three minutes from our house, and although I'm sure it's lovely, it backs up to a diner.
  10. And just like that, Elmer Dessens is hit on the leg with a line drive. (sigh) Looks like they're going to just take him back into the dugout and shoot him.
  11. And I'm saying Ed Charles is second from right.
  12. Second guy is Al Jackson...?
  13. I don't know the whole history of Mettle off the top of my head, but I would absolutely buy a plush Mettle. Honor the history, Jeff!
  14. Neat article. Smallings is still going strong, even though others have taken up the address-searching mantle, and there are plenty of online resources as well. I have 24 1969 Mets: Agee, Boswell, Charles, Collins, DiLauro, Dyer, Garrett, Gaspar, Grote, Harrelson, Heise, Jackson, Jones, Koosman, Kranepool, Martin, McGraw, Pfeil, Ryan, Seaver, Shamsky, Swoboda, Taylor, and Weis.
  15. "Which is why we're adding purple for 2011." -Jeff Wilpon
