  1. I always think of Banner Day as a Mets thing, but I know that's colored by the fact that I grew up a Mets fan. Did other teams not have Banner Days? That's definitely something they need to lean into.
  2. Kids are the WORST
  3. I called his doctor's office but they declined to comment, citing HIPAA privacy laws. I'll send them an angry tweet. (With the off day tomorrow, they're probably just giving him one more day.)
  4. NYM: Carlos Carrasco (8-2, 3.96) HOU: Luis Garcia (4-5, 3.41) Garcia is coming off a win over the Rangers where he struck out nine in six innings. Has never faced the Mets, although Canha homered off him last year. lineup: Nimmo CF Marte RF Lindor SS Alonso DH Guillorme 2B Canha LF Escobar 3B Dom 1B Nido C Stros: Altuve 2B Brantley DH Bregman 3B Alvarez LF Tucker RF Gurriel 1B McCormick CF Castro C Dubon SS
  5. =Fman99 post_id=96980 time=1655898133 user_id=86] I didn't get a chance to start making up Mets players that weren't even people. Plus, I just knew you were exchanging letters with Raul Argente. I mean, who else could it have been?
  6. I thought that was a really insightful interview, and I really enjoyed it. I'm definitely a Canha fan now. It's unsurprising that clubhouses are bastions of right-wing bullshit, honestly, for the reasons he notes. But it's interesting to see it called out a bit, and at the same time, it's really interesting to see guys like Canha who are thriving in that ecosystem and doing what they can. These pride nights really do matter so much to folks like me.
  7. I tell you, if you've never had the opportunity to hang at a game (or anywhere) with DDad and MetFairy, you're missing out. They're a good time. I miss them around here.
  8. STEVE PAY ATTENTION lolol
  9. It just hit me that Katoh never got into a game. Neat!
  10. Yeah, I love a good Nido Basket.
  11. Nido is objectively a terrible major league hitter, but he's (a) good defensively for the most part, ( better than Mazeika, and © the only other catcher on the roster. So you play him.
  12. https://twitter.com/oliviapipia/status/1537939514861113346 This made me a Taijuan Walker fan for life.
  13. Topps did/does a bit of that with the "Topps Total" set, which did a nice job of catching everyone. The 2019 Topps Total set, for example, has the only Mets cards of Adeiny Hechavarria and Rajai Davis, and 2020 has Walker Lockett and Brad Brach.
  14. Yeah, the 90s were a wild time.
  15. That would be from the 1993 Pacific Spanish set. I thought I had a Harnisch Brewers card, but apparently not.
  16. Spent a minute trying to figure out who the Brave was in the OPC sticker at the end, then realized that was Julio Franco on the right, then got confused again as to how a Braves/Clevelanders sticker wound up in the Brewers post.
  17. Lefty Specialist wrote: Put real claws on those puppies and you're all set. No more sliding off the base. Plus it'd make bench-clearing brawls AWESOME!
  18. I realize this is me just being a baseball card pedant, but that Stuart isn't a real card; doesn't look right.
  19. I'm not crazy about them either, but honestly, safety first. It's not any worse than the pads these guys are wearing at the plate.
  20. And they didn't do anything to the stadiums and backgrounds in those days, just to the uniforms. That's definitely a Shea dugout.
  21. Johnny Lunchbucket wrote: Similar with Berenyi, I don't see Ike Davis --a guy whose career trajectory was so obviously impacted by injuries-- as a "thought he would do better guy." He had a rookie season that was as good as a mid-career year for a "pretty solid major leaguer" much older than him; how much better could he have been? Sure he never really improved on that but--that was injuries, then a disease that robbed him of his energy and strength. Who could have thought he *should* have better given that? Should have been luckier? Sure. I could. And did. He had his best year just before many major leaguers have their best years, age 27-32. I thought he would have had a longer, better, career than he ended up with. Bad luck derailed that. Later Yeah, I'll agree with 62 on this. I think Ike falls into the same sort of weird "quad-A slugging 1B" bucket that Dom is in right now (and so many other guys, some of whom have been mentioned here, like Petagine).
  22. Neat! 2022: 12 2012: 12 2002: 8 1992: 12 1982: 10 1972: 9 1962: 9 A few good guesses based on other team hats on the 62 & 72 crew. Lots of "THAT guy was in our top 12?!?!" moments, too.
  23. We were there at the end of April 2015. Koehler was reasonably well established as probably their #3 starter at that point, and Jose Fernandez was hurt early that season so he was even technically more than that. It's not like he was an All-Star by any means, but I still thought there was at least a small chance to see a KOEHLER 34 shirsey for sale. LOL!
  24. I went to two games there a few years ago, and was oddly fascinated by it. The first game it was rainy, so the outfield walls were closed and it felt cavernous and echoey, like a convention center. (The same way we felt about le Stade Olympique in 2004.) Two nights later, it was a gorgeous night, the walls were open, and it felt MUCH nicer. Love love love the "bobblehead museum." Feel free to give them crap at the team store for not carrying any Tom Koehler merch back in the day.
  25. Oh, 100%. And I guess I'm still stuck in that old Wilponian "well, we owe McCann too much money to not play him" mentality a bit. If Alvarez is ready, he'll be here.
