His message to upset fans: "Get over it." i suppose there's a chance it may grow back... I want to get that photograph! Too late. Looks like Fleer already got it up there.
  2. Or maybe he just has a neck thing. DON'T MOCK THE DISABLED.
  3. Does have excellent fashion sense, though.
  4. Mookie could have been Mr. Met. I don't know if it's him or the organization, but he's a guy who I feel like should get more love.
  5. Yea, lets get this party started. Whoa! Check out that cleavage behind the plate. Story about her on Deadspin a few months back. Apparently a legitimately hardcore Brewers fan. Goes by "Front Row Amy." http://deadspin.com/5835603/found-brewers-girl-is-front+row-amy-williams-and-shes-enjoying-getting-to-know-deadspins-readers
  6. I'm still pretty sure it's linked to wearing the black unis on John Franco night.
  7. Nice touch on getting Bobby Keppel in there. And that's Carew, and that's Killer, but that ain't Puckett.

The Tigers seem to do well having Toledo about an hour away, and the Midwest-A team here in Grand Rapids about two hours away. The team here draws well, and I get to talk to the folks running it once in a while. One time I asked why would they not try to be a AA or AAA team. They answer was interesting. The price to join the league was crazy -- I think she said $80 million, and this was a while ago -- and they didn't think they could draw too many more fans than they do now. So there really wasn't much of an incentive from the team's point of view. "Plus, then there's always the chance we get stuck with the Mets. Fuck that."

John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Vic, it's not the loss of Buffalo as a place that causes me angst, or even a comparison of Buffalo and Vegas as places, it's the idea of the Mets once again losing the game of musical chairs because of every team in baseball, none has a reputation for giving less of a shit for their partners than the Mets. The organization ought to be embarrassed but I'm sure its not. This.
  10. Tempted to jump ship from my other league and may be a free agent this winter looking for a league, if there'll be space.
  11. Looked like the horse from "War Horse".
  12. Fifth inning, and the announcers have already given up. Gary's stumping to get Keith to give him one of his extra Gold Glove trophies.
  13. Ceetar wrote: Simple solution: Sign or trade for a guy who will make CitiField his bitch. Knock HR's left and right. Adam Dunn? I've always wanted him as a Met.
  14. Difficult solution: Knock Citi Field down and ask John Franco to find some guys who will rebuild the old place in one winter.
  15. Fman99 wrote: I blame Obamacare. Did the Wilpons even realize they could save money by not offering the players health care? They should try that.
  16. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: I mostly was joking about the Wilpon thing but I think its possible that the notion of the Mets just not being as good as their opponents is reinforced by playing in front of fans who also aren't buying it. Not to say they are frauds, but I mean, its objectively true that they haven't got the talent to play with the Washingtons and Atlantas of the league and their fans know it. I often wonder how deep "truth" runs about the "difficulty" of playing in NYC. I'm not talking about we, the Poolers, the intelligentsia of Mets fandom... I'm talking about the whackadoodles who tweet to suggest that Jon Rauch kill himself after he gives up a run. You think that happens in KC or Cleveland? Probably not at this volume. Have they booed Reyes in Florida yet? First 0-for-4 in April here if he signed that deal with us instead and there'd be people ready to put him on the next plane to the DR. That's gotta be grating on guys, no?
  17. Edgy DC wrote: the zeitgeist was different. That's part of my point. It's ancient history to these guys. The only NYer in the group is Baxter, yes? It's not part of their lives the same way it's part of ours. I'm not defending them, I'm just saying.
  18. Edgy DC wrote: I don't see anything in there that would lead me to such a broad characterization. They don't care enough, maybe. Semantics. That's what I meant.
  19. I'm not surprised that the players don't care.
  20. The thing that I do like about it is that you do get the chance to reward guys who had good seasons, the Fred Lewis types who might otherwise get lost in the shuffle the following year. All told, I'd really rather not change it because I don't think it *needs* to be changed.
  21. I'm with both of youse.
  22. Tom Koehler made his MLB debut tonight against the Brewers. Flawless in the 6th, going 1-2-3, but gave up two long two-run homers in the seventh.
  23. And B-R says no Phila A's/NYM overlaps, and only two NYG/NYM overlaps. (You know one; name the other.)
  24. Edgy DC wrote: Batista seems like five years ago to me. I imagine he'll be the last-ever former-Expo Met, looking to join the last-ever Sentators and Pilots and Milwaukee Braves and such. Was there ever a St. Louis Brown who became a Met? Probably, right? B-R says no.
