  1. Marlins moves: John Maine designated for assignment, Tom Koehler (#34) recalled from NOLA.
  2. I'll always love the fact that a huge chunk of card photos were taken at Shea. Look at the 72 Hunt and 83 Vail; gorgeous.
  3. Mets Willets Point wrote: How is this going to affect the status of the New York based ASG as tribute to Jeter's jeterness? He'll either win the voting or be added as a sub and then starting SS Elvis Andrus will come down with a mysterious injury the day before, allowing them to start him. FUCKING HELL, METS. WHY ARE YOU GOING TO LET THAT HAPPEN?
  4. Why is the red arrow going right from the Tool Time Girl's crotch to Bizarro Duda's mouth?
  5. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/18/chewbacca-crashes-harrison-ford-kimmel-interview_n_3108073.html Harrison Ford on Kimmel. This is brilliant.
  6. I have the "Anchorman" version of that tune on my iPod. Brilliantly done.
  7. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130417&content_id=45051158&vkey=news_nym&c_id=nym The Irish American Baseball Hall of Fame announced five new inductees Wednesday, including former big leaguers Rusty Staub and Joe McEwing as well as longtime Dodgers owner Peter O'Malley. New York Daily News baseball writer Bill Madden -- who won the J.G. Taylor Spink Award in 2010 -- and award-winning Boston Globe columnist Dan Shaughnessy also will be honored. Induction ceremonies are May 7 at Foley's NY Pub & Restaurant in New York. Staub, a six-time All-Star in his 23-year career, played for the Mets, Astros, Expos, Tigers and Rangers. The power-hitting first baseman and outfielder received Most Valuable Player Award votes in seven seasons, with his best ballot appearance being a fifth-place finish with the Tigers in 1978. McEwing, currently the White Sox third-base coach, played nine years in the Majors, five of which came with the Mets from 2000-2004. He was a .251 career hitter and also played with the Cardinals, Royals and Astros.

  9. Vic Sage wrote: why can't the Mets ever draft one of these guys? it reminds me of when the Knicks purposely skipped over St. Johns' Ron Artest to take Fredric Weis. well maybe not, but you know, lets get a local school feeding our minor league system. There'd be alot of support if a kid like that made it to the show in Queens. I wish too, Vic. Was really hoping they'd grab one of the middle-round guys last spring. As of 4/17: Koehler (AAA Miami): 0-1, 1.06 ERA in 3 starts. 17 innings, 7 hits, 10 walks, 14 K Tropeano (AA Houston): 0-2, 2.57 in 3 games. 14 innings, 13 hits, 2 walks, 15 K. 10 innings in his two starts, four innings and a save in a relief appearance for some reason. Jankowski (A+ San Diego): .349/.408/.419 in 49 AB with only 2 Ks. Really impressive start. Cantwell (A+ Texas): 2 for 16 Campbell (A+ Dodgers): 6 innings, 6 hits, 4 walks, 2 K. 4.50 ERA. Carmona (A Philly): .190/.227/.238 in 42 AB, 0 HR, 1 RBI. Looks like he's mostly DHing this year. Tissenbaum (A San Diego): .212/.449/.303 in 33 AB. Eleven walks in 11 games!
  10. We were always just hoping for the best with Hefner/Gee/Laffey. Nobody expected Maddux/Smoltz/Glavine out of those guys. I have no attachment to any of them. I don't know that McHugh is going to be any better, despite his nice start. Wheeler's 20 day thing ends on Saturday, so any point after that.
  11. And once again, Zvon wins the internet.
  12. ESPN.com says Atchison and Lyon both have holds.
  13. We haven't had a single reliever hold a close lead through twelve games?!? Odd.
  14. This thread is gold. I wish I had time to learn Photoshop.
  15. Packed house, tweets Rubin.

Some of the newer stadia have heated tubes under the playing surfaces and the drainage systems are probably state of the art as well. "Yeah, we decided not to install those here at Coors because we so rarely get snow."
  17. Brought up the Wright/Reyes combo to start the 2004 season. Reyes batting eighth, Wright second. (Carlos Beltran established as our leadoff hitter already.) Opening Day: Top of the eleventh inning, Reyes leads off with a double. Two batters later, Wright doubles him in. Floyd then drives in Wright; Mets win 6-4. Game 2: Top of the eleventh inning, Reyes leads off with a single, steals second. Two batters later, Wright singles him in. Floyd then drives in Wright; Mets win 6-4. Bizarre.
  18. Stantons I would not trade Wheeler and D'Arnaud for: Mike Stanton (the pitcher) Mike Stanton (the other pitcher) I remember being so confused in the early 00s that that guy had been hanging around since the early 80s.
  19. Disappointed we're not getting Pelf.
  20. Diamond is a SUNY Binghamton grad, so he EXTRA sucks.
  21. Only four I have any affinity at all for: 1982 St. Louis Cardinals - started my baseball life as a Cardinals fan; still a big soft spot for that team. 2001 Arizona Diamondbacks - natch. 1993 Toronto Blue Jays - watched Joe Carter hit that home run with the Four Seasons (as in Frankie Valli and The) in their dressing room after they played Geneseo's Parents Weekend show that night. 2004 Boston Red Sox - Finally, they could all shut the hell up. And so could MFY fans.
  22. No, I'm "Sea." Not Z. And Frank Frank not technically on the team right now, so I didn't count him.
  23. Fman99 wrote: I still don't know who anyone in this bullpen is though. It's, ah... Parnell, the sidearming guy, the lefty, the other lefty, the old-looking guy, and for some reason, LaTroy Hawkins. And I think I'm forgetting someone.
