  1. As far as I can tell, he has one major problem: He's terrible at baseball.
  2. Eff Mariano AND Chipper Jones. Loved Biggio, though.
  3. Edgy MD wrote: But dang, give him the hat, David. Please. The Wilpons would have a canary if David started giving away limited-edition memorabilia.
  4. Lefty Specialist wrote: Damn, why can't Sandy do trades like that? Say, Mike Trout for Nieuwenhuis, Baxter and a couple of Brooklyn pitchers.... Ah, come on, that's crap. You have to throw in a huge, unmanageable contract too. Santana, Kirk, Baxter, two minor leaguers for Trout. Done.
  5. I guess Miguel Cabrera could hit Yu Darvish, then. Six home run swings, all over the plate.
  6. Apparent actual image from the Royals game last night. http://larrybrownsports.com/blunder/bryce-hunter-mlb-graphic/188736 So confused.
  7. Ceetar wrote: Edgy MD wrote: Nice to know that Braves have two Davisive problems. Heyward's injury puts off demotion issues andthey can't demote B.J. although if he was a Mets fans would be demanding he agree to do so. After signing that big contract? Whoo boy. It'd be Ike x Bay.
  8. I love baseball table games. No Mets in it, but I loved this as a kid: And my friend and I played a crapload of Statis Pro: He was a Yankee fan, and I distinctly remember 1984 Jay Howell to be unhittable.
  9. Josh Satin is .300/.414/.475 in Vegas. I know he's not on the 40, which complicates the issue, but I'd rather try to sneak Lutz or Cowgill through waivers and give him a shot. Duda/Ankiel/Byrd isn't a great outfield, but it's not terrible.
  10. Disagree. Duda's the second-best offensive weapon on this team. Maybe not much of a defender, but he's a usable piece.
  11. This would have made a great Sporcle quiz, and yes, I think the least guessed there would have been the ones you listed, and I would throw Jorgensen in there as well. Already is one. http://www.sporcle.com/games/PaulyVercillo/Mets_MLBManagers So it's only bad Mets teams that yield lots of managers, eh? I say Buck, Turner, Hawkins, and Ankiel.
  12. Who hasn't wanted to just bitchslap Victorino, though?
  13. Benjamin Grimm wrote: It had gone away for a while, but the "he can't be any worse than what we already have" meme has been recently making a comeback. Because everyone on this team is terrible at baseball.
  14. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: MFYs will employ Beltran to be one of their dozen DHs next year, just watch. That would SUCK. In all honesty, I'd much rather have Carlos out there at a smaller rate until 2015 than a disabled Choo at $18M per in 2016-17-18.
  15. Who the hell is Norm Sherry? You made him up.
  16. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Al Pedrique Nice! Never would have remembered that one. Bruce Bochy
  17. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Beltran is never coming back. I mean, he's just not. I remember when you traded me the first time Saying this is it, I've had enough, 'cause like We haven't won a game in a month Now I'm, in a, pennant race. What? Then you come around again and say Baby, I miss you and I swear I'm gonna change Trust me, remember how you went and knocked down Shea I say, I hate you, we break up, you call me, I love you Oooh we called it off again last time But Oooh, this time I'm telling you, I'm telling you We are never ever ever getting back together We are never ever ever getting back together You go talk to Lozano talk To Choo then talk to me But we are never ever ever ever getting back together
  18. Well, you have to figure the money's going to be different. Choo's going to be looking in the $75M+ range over five+ years, whereas Beltran's probably more of a 2 years/$22M kind of package, I'd think. And Carlos has only OPS+ed less than 125 once in the past seven seasons. Beltran's closest B-R similarity score comparison: Andre Dawson. Choo's closest comparison: Bernard Gilkey.
  19. Topps' 2013 Archives set hits in the next two weeks. Using the 1972, 1982, 1985, and 1990 designs, plus a bunch of old-style inserts. Big news for my collection: Kevin McReynolds is in the set! Thrilled. Lots of Mets on the autograph list: FFA-GJ Gregg Jefferies, New York Mets FFA-HJ Howard Johnson, New York Mets FFA-JO Jesse Orosco, New York Mets FFA-KM Kevin McReynolds, New York Mets FFA-KMI Keith Miller, New York Mets FFA-MW Mookie Wilson, New York Mets FFA-RD Ron Darling, New York Mets FFA-SF Sid Fernandez, New York Mets Other (likely) Metly content: (looks like there aren't any Mets in the 1985 design) 1972: 2 Gary Carter, 34 Dwight Gooden 1982: 78 Johan Santana, 82 Tom Seaver, 97 David Wright 1990: 174 Ike Davis All-Time Fan Favorites: 208 Keith Miller, 217 Mookie Wilson, 222 Howard Johnson, 231 Kevin McReynolds, 235 Gregg Jefferies, 236 Jesse Orosco, 237 Sid Fernandez

  21. Okay, so "pass" is a bit strong. But that's a lot of money for a guy who's on the wrong side of 30, even though he'd obviously outhit our entire outfield.
  22. G-Fafif wrote: Every year I track down a few packs of cards for the hell of it. Most years I marvel at the quality and design. Then I forget what they look like, mostly, no offense to those cards. Your prime card years are your prime card years, however. That was how I started to get back into it about eight or nine years ago, but then once I started going down that rabbit hole...
  23. Except that Pete hadn't been a Red for several years by 1982.
