  1. Play him against the two lefties and cross your fingers that he gets five hits and is suddenly tradeable.
  2. Update: finally bought one of these on eBay after being outbid a half-dozen times.
  3. Two runs and eight Ks in seven innings AND a Mets win? I'll take that every time.
  4. Bah. Knew I should have gotten to this IGT first.
  5. I don't know. I want to pillory Teufel for it, but don't at the same time. Did we know Ozuna had a great arm? I'd rather have the bases loaded with one out there and the tying run at third, but I wonder if that's only obvious in retrospect. This team can't score runs for nothing; I think you've got to send him there. And you obviously have to send Kirk in the 9th. So I don't know if I'm mad at Teufel or not.
  6. HOLY HELL SCREW THE FUCKING LANE. Wright was out by fifteen feet. There's not even a fucking call there. edit: Just realized I might be the only person actually sitting here watching the stupid postgame because I'm still too stunned to go to bed.
  7. And Beltran just hit a walkoff game-winning homer for the Yankees. This was a very Metsy night of baseball.
  8. Well. Didn't see that coming. GET HIM IN, FELLAS.

  10. I don't know how to track this stuff, but I'd bet the Mets' record against pitchers making their MLB debut in the past several years is something like 0-40. Not optimistic about tonight.
  11. He's shaking my cahnfidence daily.

These things tend to only seem embarrassing to the people that proclaim them embarrassing. It's one of those ripe for "talk radio screaming" type topics. [francesa] You're telling me that the MARLINS, a team that CAN'T EVEN WIN ITS OWN DIVISION, gets to win the World Series? TWICE?! YOU'VE GOTTA BE KIDDING ME, BUD SELIG... (exceptionally long pause)... THE MARLINS!... (another exceptionally long pause)... you're going to TELL ME, that the MARLINS, who can't even FILL THEIR OWN STADIUM, are going to win one of these WILD CARDS, AND THEN WIN THE WORLD SERIES!... (long pause)... back after this. [/francesa]
  13. I'm not saying weird as in unusual, I'm saying weird as in "yes, that's a statue of me. I'm that big of a deal."
  14. It has to be just a little bit weird to have a statue made of you when you're still alive.

  16. http://www.baseball-reference.com/friv/fieldPitch.shtml Looks like the last non-pitcher to get a save was Erv Dusak in 1950, after spending the late 1940s as a utilityman. The only other postwar guys came up as pitchers. Rick Ankiel got a save, but was a pitcher first, fielder second. Willie Smith did the same. Johnny Lindell came up as a pitcher in 1942, got a save, but then became a non-pitcher, although it looks like he went back to the mound late in his career (but didn't record a save).
  17. From GameCast: Chance of scoring 2+ runs this inning (0 outs, Runners on 1st, 2nd): 39.3%
  18. Thanks for not walking the leadoff hitter, Jenrry. Oh, wait.
  19. I think the Ticket Oak commercials are hilarious. ("Well, I was going to go horseback riding.")

  21. Honestly, I've been surprised by this too, but I wonder if this is because less people bought season tickets this year, and therefore, less people are looking to dump them. (I expected to find cheaper tickets by now too.)

I look it as using the All-Star Game voting as an opportunity to showcase their stars. Sure, but in order to use the ASG as the place for to showcase your stars you first have to get them there, and today's accepted way of getting them there is via encouraging your fans to stuff the box. This and this. A lot of these guys won't make it to the ASG, so this is their chance to get some branding out there. Heck, we wouldn't be talking about Jonathan Lucroy without it.
  23. Edgy MD wrote: Really interesting that the three top performers against Tony Gwynn were all Pirates of the mid-late-80s. They played on the rug which should've helped him. They didn't have particularly high-performing defenders on the left side of the infield. What did they have? My guess is that Tony Pea had him figured out. I want to address this, because it's a fascinating deduction. Pena went to the Cardinals from 1987-1989. 1987: Gwynn OPSed .716 vs Cardinals, WORST against any team in the league. 1988: Gwynn OPSed 1.146 vs Cardinals, BEST against any team in the league. (Doubly interesting, because Jose DeLeon led the Cards with 225 IP. But the Cardinals were terrible in 1988.) 1989: Gwynn OPSed .461 vs Cardinals, WORST against any team in the league. You might have something there.
