  6. Boom! Right off the bat we've got a hit. 9 K in 67 PA -- 6 K in 77 PA -- Dwight Gooden (.243/.312/.314) 6 K in 62 PA -- 6 K in 48 PA -- 6 K in 41 PA -- 5 K in 84 PA -- 5 K in 74 PA -- 5 K in 63 PA -- 5 K in 56 PA -- 5 K in 46 PA -- 5 K in 18 PA -- 5 K in 18 PA -- 5 K in 15 PA --
  7. Let's do this. 9 K in 67 PA -- 6 K in 77 PA -- 6 K in 62 PA -- 6 K in 48 PA -- 6 K in 41 PA -- 5 K in 84 PA -- 5 K in 74 PA -- 5 K in 63 PA -- 5 K in 56 PA -- 5 K in 46 PA -- 5 K in 18 PA -- 5 K in 18 PA -- 5 K in 15 PA -- All of these guys were solid, long term major league starters except one of the 18 PA guys and the 15 PA guy. (And nobody's getting the 15 PA guy unless you cheat.)
  8. Gwreck wrote: I liked this stat: Gywnn had more career PAs against Greg Maddux than any other pitcher (107). He had a .415 average against Maddux, plus 11 walks. And ZERO strikeouts.
  9. From B/R: For the 70% of his career PA w/records, Gwynn swung & missed three times only twice: vs Jeff Fassero 7.2.97 & vs Big Unit 4.25.99 Whoa. (Comparison they gave: Ichiro did it twelve times.)
  10. Over the years, I've wanted to look back and think Gwynn was an overrated singles hitter. But the thing is, the guy hit the ball ALL THE TIME. Some guys strike out more times in two or three years than he did in twenty. Neat stat: Gwynn was 12th all-time in IBBs (201). Every other player in the top 50, except for Boggs (25th) and Ichiro (26th), was a power hitter of some kind.
  11. I blame the roids.
  12. Edgy MD wrote: And we get K-Rod and his big nasty wad of chaw in the bottom of the inning. And nobody to pinch-hit for the pitcher. deGrom, no?
  13. Wish this hotel carried SNY. I hate following along on the Gamecast.
  14. I posted this on a MFY friend's FB wall when this was first announced, incredulous, and he actually agreed with me on how bizarre it was for Tino and Paul O'Neill to be honored.
  15. Like we all haven't wanted to throw a bat at Alberto Callaspo at some point in our lives.
  16. Edgy MD wrote: An old SI account of Welch becoming one of the first players to seek treatment for alcoholism during his career. His book, Five O'Clock Comes Early, came out shortly after my mom came out of rehab. It hit me very hard then, and I've been a fan of his ever since.
  17. LoDuca is an idiot. If the Mets trade David Wright, they won't sell another ticket for years.
  18. Seawolves catcher Kevin Krause to the Pirates in Round 9.
  19. 6'9", 240? That's some serious beef on Wieck.
  20. With a cameo by Citi Field in the trailer. [youtube:vb8nwo7x]3e0ieIpBhsg[/youtube:vb8nwo7x] Set your DVRs now for July 30.
  21. We just (sorta) traded athletic staff with Oregon State. Our Facilities/Operations guy just took a promotion to move there, and their Development guy just became our Athletics Director.
