  2. My problem -- even when I was thin -- has always been that I can't run and I have a noodle arm. I can hit, and I can catch the ball. I'm a right-side-of-the-infield guy. Once at my dad's company picnic at Eisenhower Park a million years ago (I was probably about ten or twelve) my dad and I hit back-to-back home runs. That was cool.

  4. Figured out who the oddball guys were. [u:wjx6zr64]PITCHERS[/u:wjx6zr64] Kevin Brown, not that one. Third overall January draft pick. 15-7, 2.74 ERA in single A in 1983, but never made it to the bigs. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=brown-004kev [u:wjx6zr64]INFIELDERS[/u:wjx6zr64] Dave Cochrane, eventually traded for Tom Paciorek. Fourth-round pick, coming off a 25-HR season in single A. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=cochra001dav Eddie Williams, first-round pick in 1983. Traded later in 1984 for Bruce Berenyi. Played in 395 major league games over ten seasons. http://www.baseball-reference.com/minors/player.cgi?id=willia005edw

With all due respect, sir, and I know I've only been here for three weeks, but I think we're going to want to cancel these VIP invitation calls." (Let me state for the internet archive record that I have no intention of actually getting divorced and marrying a Mets ticket salesperson, even if she did promise me a VIP tour of CitiField if I pretend to be Vic's son.)
  7. Isn't it generally accepted that he was exposed because they thought nobody would eat his salary? That still happens every year -- old guys getting through waivers because nobody wants to eat the salary. Sometimes you get burned (Jose Canseco to the Yankees), sometimes you don't. Not everything has to be a feckin' conspiracy, fellas. They protected Terry Blocker and whoever the hell "Cochrane" was because they thought they had more value for what they were owed, which was next to nothing. Tom Seaver had an 88 ERA+ in 1982-83 and went 14-27, 4.18 in 55 starts. Let's not get too crazy here. Side note: Tom is the only "Seaver" in major league history, which surprised me.
  8. In all honesty, I'd love to think that a "VIP Tour" like this would show you cool stuff and then send you on your way, but you know it's only a hard sell on a ticket package.
  9. Frank's a centerpiece of my Mets autograph collection; wrote to him a few years ago and he returned a signed card to me.
  10. Jeff Pearlman wrote that they cut Seaver because they needed that money for Bobby Bonilla.

  14. Neat. I'll pretend to be your kid if they don't want to go.

  16. Someone involved with this production is a Mets fan, because Mets Fan With A Comically Oversized Bat plays a big role in the newest teaser. http://io9.com/please-add-sharknadoes-to-the-problems-plaguing-the-nyc-1598213918
  17. I saw the hat. It looks ridiculous. But if I was a pitcher, I'd rather look ridiculous than be dead.
  18. Doc, Sid, Ronnie, Aguilera?
  19. batmagadanleadoff wrote: Totally agree. If the losing team doesn't wanna get scored on anymore, they can walk off the field and forfeit the game. 'Cause unless they sign a binding stipulation promising not to score any more runs, the team with the lead should keep on trying to score. Now in football, or pre possession clock basketball, a team with a comfortable lead could tone down the offense without risking a loss by simply running out the clock. Can't do that in baseball. Can't run out the clock in baseball. If that pisses off the other team, then so be it. As long as they are not taunting the other team, what do they care? Baseball could benefit from a bunch of sticks being removed from up people's asses. ***Thread Hijack Alert*** Things I think are ok in baseball. 1. Towel waving, funny handshakes, dancing to celebrate good plays. 2. Home Run trots. I realize if you leave it unchecked, it can go to the extreme like those ridiculous TD rituals in the NFL, but whatever. They're fun. I loved Rickey's HR trot. And sure, it can piss off a pitcher, but they can retaliate with... 3. Elaborate Strikeout Celebrations. Next time you strike out that asshole mimic his HR trot around the mound. Pound your chest. Point to God. If he really pissed you off, mimic the whole at bat including adjusting the velcro on your non-existent batting gloves. 4. Not stealing, bunting, taking the extra base with a big lead. It's dumb. Play hard at all times. Unless you are up by a lot. But if they catch up a little, then play hard again, until your lead is big enough, and then stop playing hard again. Play hard. All the time. Fuck the other team. 5. Bunting to break up a no-hitter. If your team is down and you need runs, it's a good baseball play. No-hitters are supposed to be hard. Guard against the bunt. Fuck yes, I agree with all of this. I hate the whole "act like you've been there before" bullshit.
  21. We're so jaded, we ANTICIPATE the Mets screwing things up.

  23. I like this new "scoring all the runs" Mets approach.
  24. Hey Billy Beane... LOOK HOW GOOD CHRIS YOUNG IS. Take him home with you tomorrow night, eh?
  25. Yes, BUT. If there's a team out there who thinks they can use him, it might make them give Sandy a call and offer a warm body for him, and then maybe you don't eat as much of the salary as you would if you just cut him.
