  1. I stumbled upon the game while Pelfrey was pitching. Hitters do not seem particularly fooled by his stuff, in my amateur opinion.
  2. Sweet! I just noticed that the opener on 3/31 is a 4:10 PM first pitch. This means I won't have to take a 1/2 day off from work to catch the game. I can leave at 4 PM and listen to the first hour on XM on my drive home.
  3. I love my team. I have a team in a 12-team league that I don't think is as good as this one. Tonight is my 3rd and final draft, an NL-only 12 team league. I've always wanted to try the single-league format and NL-only specifically.

Crystal hasn't endeared himself terribly well to Mets fans, after comments he made about his character in City Slickers. He said something along the lines of; "He's was the type of guy who could only be a Mets fan". I'm still a jerk for other things though. But at least it's not for thinking that Billy Crystal is a washed-up old hack.
  6. Woo hoo! I got the #1 pick -- sweet. My friend dropped out, he said there were too many teams. He might be a pansy.
  7. I would've loved to seen him get knocked on his ass by some high cheese. But I'm kind of a jerk that way. As joked on the Simpsons, Billy Crystal is the only guy at the ballpark more hated than the umpire.

  10. Well that'd be avid bowler David Wright... since Jerome Bettis never donned the orange and blue. It's April 14th and you realized your taxes aren't done. Who's your ace in the hole for help with those pesky 1040's, schedules and whatnot?

  12. I know they have not made the team yet, but potentially: Wise Register
  13. Wow 17 teams. Pretty sweet. "Pedro's Cockfighters" is a buddy of mine whom I invited to join.
  14. This is sweet news... NEW YORK -- SNY, the official television home of the New York Mets, today announced that the network will produce every New York Mets regular season game -- in 2008 and beyond -- in High Definition. Cablevision's IO Digital Cable will serve as the presenting HD sponsor for Mets in-game telecasts, as well as the network's pre- and postgame shows. SNY's HD programming roster now showcases an incredible array of dramatic sports programming including New York Mets games and other Mets programs and an extensive lineup of New York Jets programming, as well as the network's critically acclaimed sports news programs and original entertainment programming. SNY also announced its 2008 Mets regular season telecast schedule, which features more than 120 exclusive games beginning on March 31 at 4 p.m. -- when the Mets take on the Florida Marlins. Calling the action all season long is SNY's Emmy nominated broadcast team, led by play-by-play announcer Gary Cohen and game analysts Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling. Ralph Kiner will also return to the broadcast booth as a contributing analyst. They are joined by Mets field reporter Kevin Burkhardt, who will provide in-game interviews with players, coaches and other personalities in attendance as part of the unique perspective he brings to the broadcast. The network will also add more production enhancements to its Emmy-nominated Mets broadcast coverage, including additional cameras to cover every angle and all the action like never before. In addition, before and after every Mets telecast on SNY, viewers can look forward to the most comprehensive pre- and postgame shows as former New York Met and big-league Manager Lee Mazzilli again teams with host Matt Yallof to provide the keys to the game and break down all the action afterwards. Viewers will get to see all of Mets Manager Willie Randolph's postgame press conferences and all player interviews exclusively on SNY. Bill Webb and Greg Picker return in their roles as director and producer, respectively, for all SNY produced Mets telecasts. 15. He's inclined to blow off his state taxes and make All-World third basemen feel scorned like Molly Ringwald in the first 75 minutes of "Sixteen Candles."
  16. The Amazing 1996 Mets had four guys give up 100 runs - Izzy, Pulse, Pete Harnisch and Bobby J. Jones. Though in their defense, they all gave up less than 100 earned runs.

  18. Find it right here. Adds a "New York Mets" list to the menu bar at the top of the page, with links to (literally) hundreds and hundreds of Mets sites. All arranged by genre (news, blogs, forums, shopping, etc.) and all Mets. Just fantastic stuff.
  19. Triple Dee wrote: ="Vic Sage"]So they should eat salary to dump guys with roles (albeit limited ones) on this year's squad, in order to bring pact prospects so we can make roster room for ... who... steve register? really? My point is that i don't think there is anybody in ST (or in the FA pool) that we should move Scot for, just to free up a roster spot. So, Omar likes Register. That's fine. Can he get lefties out? Scot can. Can he be a spot starter or long man? Sosa can. Omar is budgeting that Pedro will pitch 180+ IP in 2008. There's also sufficient evidence to suggest that Pelfrey can do the job at ML level. Both of these, assumptions seem reasonable. Unlike previous years, the Mets have significant depth in their starting rotation, and I think Omar is merely recognizing that. As noted in other recent threads, Willie's bullpen management philosophy is not really conducive to relievers who only pitch to one hitter, and at $3.6M a year the Show is a luxury the Mets can live without. We have rotation depth? After Pedro, Santana, Ollie, Maine, Pelfrey and El Duque, who do we have? Vargas? Tony Armas? Of course it's still early, but since El Duque is already banged up, I would contend that the Mets have reached the depth of the starting rotation (that is, Pelf as the #5) that most Mets fans would feel comfortable having as options.

  21. Watched an hour or so of this game on the replay tonight. Must they keep showing the old woman with all of the pins on her hat? She looks like she's wearing a turtleneck of someone else's skin. Blerch. (My apologies to anyone who may be or may be related to this person and reading this message board).
