Jimi Hendrix did not play at the Festival for Peace concert at Shea in 1970. He did play the NY Pop Festival at Randall's Island though, on 17 July of that year. http://www.nii.net/~obie/jimi_hendrix_live.htm#1970
  4. I am happy to get both Fatty and Crooked-Hat out of the NL East. Though Willis seemed more hittable this year than in years past.
  5. Rolling Stones' "Steel Wheels" tour. October 26, 1989. We had 10th row isle seats (the only time I've ever been down on the field at Shea). Living Colour opened. We had a rockin' good time. I was 16 years old.
  6. There was a game this past year that he was sent in as a pinch runner and scored a winning run on a real shallow sacrifice fly. I also remember some real acrobatic catches in right field this past season. I find this deal odious.

  8. Ladies and gentlemen, meet your new #7/8 hitters! Ugh. Basically we're swapping Milledge and Estrada for Church and Schneider. Which to me is a stupid idea.
  9. Gay.
  10. There are Mets all over my Monopoly board. Er, make that "Metsopoly." I'd bet I'm not the only CPF member to have that in my house somewhere.

  12. metsguyinmichigan wrote: What are you worried about? Rick Peterson can fix this guy in 10 minutes! :shudder:
  13. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: Let's hear more about Tim Pynn. He was a drinking buddy of mine in college. Not the best looking guy but somehow was always moving from one girl to the next. Every few weeks. The guy had them lined up. Last I heard he had married, settled down and taken over his father's plumbing business in the Buffalo area.
  14. I'm in like Tim Pynn (a guy I went to college with that was poonaner-flypaper).
  15. Rice, Gossage, Blyleven and Morris should all be in the Hall. I'm on the fence regarding Raines and to me Justice is a no-go.
  16. John Cougar Lunchbucket wrote: More evidence that the interns run the show. I agree -- quality patch. I would wear a T-shirt with that patch to my cousin's wedding, were it appropriate to do so.
  17. metsguyinmichigan wrote: ="Benjamin Grimm"]Edgardo Alfonzo? Stuffing and turkey has not dulled your memory! Edgardo had six hits in six at-bats, including three homers, in a 17-1 rout of the Astros. I forget how damn good he was that season. It's a shame he fell apart. I remember listening to that game on the radio as I was on the road that day. If I recall it right Fonzie was the first MLB player to go 6 for 6 with 3 HRs since Ty Cobb did it in a game.
  18. Frayed Knot wrote: Ahh, the fickle market for relief pitchers ... you can't predict it and you can't depend on it. Rumor has it that right after acquiring Perez & Robo Hernandez from Pittsburgh Omar was trying to flip Oliver to SD for Linebrink (or maybe Linebrink + something). If true I'm glad it didn't work. I remember that... it was right up against the 5 PM deadline and some of the major medias were reporting it as fact. Turns out that holding onto Ollie was the way to go.
  19. As per ESPN.com. This guy didn't even have a great 2006-2007, and he's going from the NL to the AL. He was pretty consistently good in 2003-2005 but that was a few years ago.

  22. My dad and I went to the game in September that Pedro pitched against the Phillies, in which the bullpen subsequently blew the lead. We sat way up in the nosebleeds and you couldn't tell what number anyone was wearing. At one point they made a pitching change and I guessed from the booing that it was Mota jogging in. I was right. I will remember the 2006 (regular season) Mota. That boy was good!
  23. I love this deal. Estrada's career BA is 30 points higher than ol Yorvit and no Mota in 2008. To me it's win/win.
  24. I think they are far more likely to deal Martinez or Gomez for pitching than they are Milledge. Teams seem to be less enamored of him and he's the most MLB-ready of the three OFs. I could also see a scenario where the Mets bring in an older OF to compete and/or timeshare in RF with Milledge.
