  1. David Hyde Pierce (NTTAWWT) Oh wait, what?
  2. Frayed Knot wrote: The war of words between "traditional" baseball writing and "stat-heads" gets a rather humorous treatment courtesy of the folks at FireJoeMorgan.com It seems that after the FJM peeps carried the flag for David Wright as 2007 NL MVP, SI.com writer (and WFAN contributor) Jon Heyman not only disagreed but made fun of their pocket protectors while saying so. The linked piece here is FJM firing back (with Heyman's words in bold). That is high-f'in-larious.
  3. sharpie wrote: Yeah, I've been considering him on the squad since we made that trade. It's Saenz and Gotay who are the 25th man. Pagan is 24th, maybe 23rd. OK - I know that this doesn't have pictures or anything, like that other thread, but I don't see how this math is right. Starters (8): Schneider, Delgado, Castillo, Reyes, Wright, Alou, Beltran, Church Rotation (5): Johan, Pedro, Maine, Ollie, El Duque Bullpen (6): Wagner, Feliciano, Heilman, Schoewenwaste, Duaner, Sosa (swingman) Bench (4): Easley, Endy, Anderson, Castro That's 23 right there. I assume 24 and 25 would be one more hitter and one more reliever. So if Pagan and Gotay are the 24th/25th man, then the assumption is that the Mets aren't going to carry a 7th relief pitcher? I think the more logical assumption is that there will be a 5th bench player (Gotay or Pagan or whomever) and a 7th reliever (Wise, Register or candidate X). Or are you just saying that Pagan and Gotay are the 23rd and 24th best players in camp? Maybe I'm dense but I'm missing something here.
  4. I am the Moistest Alou, he said proudly.
  5. Just nine owners? Weak.
  6. ="themetfairy"] You can see that we have four seats from the Vet. What I want to do is purchase four seats from Shea. Then we'll move the two seats on the left over to the right, and have the four Shea seats on the left. That would give us Shea seats on the first base side and Vet seats on the visitor's side of our baseball diamond patio. Does sitting in the chairs from the Vet turn you into a raging retard, cursing your own team and anyone in your immediate viscinity? Just wondrin'
  7. Some stories came out later yesterday that indicated that Omar isn't looking at him and that Garcia was stopping by the park to say hello to some of his friends on the team. They should consider him though. He's put some good numbers up in the not so distant past and as we saw the last few years there always seems to be a time where the Mets are dipping into the AAA rotation for spot starts (Park, Vargas, Lima, etc.)
  8. 1. Alou staying on the field 2. Duaner 3. Castillo's bat 4. El Duque/Pelfrey/5th starter contribution 5. Ryan Church against lefties
  9. ... as someone who might sign a minor league deal and be available later this summer as rotation insurance. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2008/baseball/mlb/02/20/garcia.mets/index.html?eref=si_topstories Works for me.
  10. I get them on XM as I'm too far from NYC. XM always uses the home broadcasters... so I get to hear other teams' radio squads on road trips. They vary in quality.
  11. Valadius wrote: Dammit Steve, there's no need to dredge this shit up again. We've put it behind us. I'd rather we not discuss it. Let's focus on the upcoming season and not on ranking how painful last September was. "F'in A, Cotton! F'in A!"
  12. ="AG/DC"]This is good spring journalism: WISE DECISION: When Delgado entered the clubhouse, reliever Matt Wise reminded him of their first meeting, back on Aug.15, 2000, when Wise was a rookie with the Angels and Delgado was a Blue Jay. Angels manager Mike Scioscia told Wise to throw Delgado four straight fastballs inside. Delgado squared to bunt and Wise unintentionally drilled him in the groin - the first hit batter of Wise's career. The two didn't cross paths again until they bumped into each other two months later at a Newport Beach, Calif., restaurant, when Delgado was visiting Shawn Green. A scared Wise hopped in his car and drove off. I'm glad you're home Now did you really miss me I guess you did by the look in your eyes (look in your eyes, look in your eyes) Well lay back and relax while I put away the dishes (put away the dishes) Then you and me can rock-a-bye You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell The night is young and full of possibilities Well come on and let yourself be free My love for you, so long than I've been savin' Tonight was made for me and you You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell You can ring my be-e-ell, ring my bell you can ring my bell, you can ring my bell (ding, dong, ding, do-ong) you can ring my bell, you can ring my bell (ding, dong, ding, do-ong, ring it!) you can ring my bell, anytime, anyway (ring it, ring it, ring it, ring it oww!) you can ring my bell, anytime, anyway (ding, dong, ding, do-ong) you can ring my bell, you can ring my bell (ding, dong, ding, do-ong) you can ring my bell, you can ring my bell (ding, dong, ding, do-ong, ring it!) you can ring my bell, anytime, anyway (ring it, ring it, ring it, ring it oww!) you can ring my bell, anytime, anyway (ding, dong, ding, do-ong)
  13. There should be a voting option that says "Who cares, they are just stupid Phillies."
  14. Cedric "Ced" Landrum was one of the other pinch hitters. I believe he was the one who appeared in the middle of the game. Not too many Ceds in Mets lore.
  15. Joe Orsulak was in the lineup that day.

  18. metsmarathon wrote: i like a craig wilson signing. good idea if only for the bench. defensively, he's not good, but he has some potential to regain his stroke, i guess. Assuming he can extricate himself from his own suckitude, I like this signing for three reasons. He's a righty, who can backup at 1B and the corner OF spots, who you could use as a late inning guy to try and take the ball deep. I wonder though if this signing could potentially take away Ruben Gotay's roster spot as the last bat off the bench.
  19. I wonder, should the Mets decide to sign Livan as rotation insurance, if Steve Register would give up his #61 for him.
  20. My son, Nathan (Natey), was a big Xavier Nady fan. He liked the idea of someone with a similar name on the team.
  21. I'm in like Tim Pynn.
  22. MFS62 wrote: Cookie Rojas is in the booth. He isn't too bad. The games are being played in the Dominican Republic, and the host nation has two teams in the tourney. And for the first time in many years, Puerto Rico doesn't have an entry. Later My son and I watched a few innings yesterday afternoon. He was asking me who all the players were and I couldn't help him, since the Mexico team all had "Corona" on the backs of their jerseys. Still, it is baseball on TV.

  24. Fuck. I'm getting shpilkes here.
