I am wondering when single game tickets for the summer will go on sale. What are they waiting for? The StubHub site is good in that they have tickets for many games later in the season (season/package ticket holders selling off part of their tickets for games they cannot attend). The problem is the markup and fees compared to buying them direct from the Mets' web site is significant... say, 25-30% higher than the face value of the tickets.

I think I'll dip into recent history for the 2006 group of 6: LoDuca Delgado Nady Wagner Julio Franco Valentin

As someone who bought JCL's book, and reads it on the toilet all the time, I have to say that I am fine with Green changing his number. Not sure why it makes him such a bad guy. Maybe I'm missing something.

HahnSolo Apr 01 2009 08:57 AM ="Fman99":1oc6dpyg]="John Cougar Lunchbucket":1oc6dpyg]Keilty, Nieve and Dessens are cut. I think that makes 26 +/- Livan/Evans[/quote:1oc6dpyg] Sending Kielty packing, and keeping Marlon Anderson, stinks.[/quote:1oc6dpyg] I can understand keeping Castillo because you don't want to dump $18 mill (or whatever is owed to him) on a guy if he is not playing for you. And okay, maybe Luis is healthy this year and last year was an aberration. But Marlon? They can't eat his guarantee for one year? He resembled nothing close to a major league ballplayer at the end of '08 (heck, all of '08). Santana would have been a better lefty bat off the bench for most of last year. I can't believe he's still with the team. Edgy DC Apr 01 2009 09:10 AM Kielty hasn't been sent packing. If 2008 was an abberation for Castillo, why couldn't it have possibly been for Anderson? holychicken Apr 01 2009 09:10 AM Thinking about the fact that Anderson is on the roster makes me mad. Not that I am all that baseball astute. . . .but I see absolutely NO reason for him to be on the roster. He had a terrible year last year and he had a terrible spring. Why is he still here? Why can't we just cut him loose? metirish Apr 01 2009 09:14 AM I'm sure we will see Kielty before long. holychicken Apr 01 2009 09:18 AM ="Edgy DC":1edz66no]Kielty hasn't been sent packing. If 2008 was an abberation for Castillo, why couldn't it have possibly been for Anderson?[/quote:1edz66no] He had a 40 OPS+. If that is an aberration, I would hope that it would require you earning a spot. . .which he just did not do this spring while getting a decent number of ABs (42). Edgy DC Apr 01 2009 09:18 AM They can. They choose not to. Because there's more to it than last year. And when you have to choose between a few options, you often have to look at the veterans first, guys with larger contracts, big league contracts, because (1) the stakes are higher as you only get one decision with them and (2) because younger players tend to make more of time in the minors than older players. Sometimes, you have to accept that you have to accept that it's in the team's interests to try Manny Aybar first and Heath Bell second. Edgy DC Apr 01 2009 09:21 AM ="holychicken":3bmztzkb]="Edgy DC":3bmztzkb]Kielty hasn't been sent packing. If 2008 was an abberation for Castillo, why couldn't it have possibly been for Anderson?[/quote:3bmztzkb] He had a 40 OPS+.[/quote:3bmztzkb] I can read. I also know that players with playing time limited due to injury and narrow roles such as pinch-hitting often end up with stats on the extreme ends of the spectrum. That number is alarming but not conclusive. I certainly don't think the 133 OPS+ the season before was conclusive. holychicken Apr 01 2009 09:26 AM I understand that, edgy. But he didn't just have a down year. . . he had a downright terrible year. There are only 10 NL players who had a minimum of 100 ABs that had a worse OPS than the guy. And it is not like he has impeccable defensive skills to make up for the fact that he was basically worse than our pitchers at the plate. I just feel if you shit the bed like that you really need to EARN your way back to the majors, which he completely and utterly failed to do this spring. I would give him the benefit of the doubt if he had a halfway decent spring, but he showed me exactly what he gave us last year. metirish Apr 01 2009 09:32 AM Make what you will of this....from the Snooze ] By keeping Anderson over Kielty, the Mets won't have a righty pinch-hitter on the bench from Game 5 on when Tatis starts - that is, other than Castro, who typically wouldn't be used in that role because he's the backup catcher. So who pinch-hits against a lefty reliever? "Livan," Manuel joked, referring to his fifth starter, who is a career .233 hitter. "I've got all that covered, man." As for the decision to keep Anderson, Mets brass cited his improved shape this spring as well as his track record as a pinch-hitter. "Marlon has been a guy that when he's right has been very, very good for us," Manuel said. Get in shape guys. MFS62 Apr 01 2009 09:37 AM Funny, on the day Livian was signed, I posted about his .233 career BA and joked that maybe they were signing him for his bat. (Can't find the link). Sometimes, the things you say in jest.... Later cooby Apr 01 2009 07:27 PM ="G-Fafif":3n4m1msd]Toe Knee Arm Ass My inner sixth-grader is laughing hysterically.[/quote:3n4m1msd] moi aussi

Caught a couple of minutes of Beer Money the other night as I was flipping around the dial. Blech. If ol DJ Chunky Carlin came up to me I think I'd just feed him pennies until he went away. Now, that Julie girl, well, heh heh, I'd find something else to feed her.

In as respectful a voice as possible, I'd like to indicate that I no longer care what the answer and think you're just a sadist for dragging this on for so many pages. It's like watching a horse with a broken leg limp down the home stretch. Just send this thread to the glue factory please.

="MFS62"]Im announcing the identity of my chosen permanent avatar today because it is the anniversary of his death. I have chosen Brian Cole. He was a rising star in the Mets minor league system, an outfielder with speed and emerging power. Brian had been named Mets minor leaguer of the year 1999 by Baseball America Almanac. Spring training had ended. He was driving home from spring training in Port St. Lucie, Fla., to Meridian, Miss., to drop off his truck. He was to fly Saturday to Binghamton, N.Y., to join the Mets' Double-A team. There was a companion in his truck. Cole's truck was hit by another vehicle near the Florida-Alabama border. His vehicle rolled over and Brian was thrown out. It was later found that he had not been wearing his seat belt. He was killed almost instantly. His companion, who had been wearing a seat belt, survived. The Mets have named a rookie award after him. I want to honor his memory this way. Later That's a good choice, I like it.

="metsguyinmichigan":3c0nogrw]I'd make that deal over and over and over and over again.[/quote:3c0nogrw] Yep. Edgy DC Mar 30 2009 07:13 AM Edited 2 time(s), most recently on Mar 30 2009 07:27 AM SeasonIP200086.0200143.72002108.32003158.32004228.0There's still an art to it. The "best pitcher in the league" is still a cloudy designation, and good pitching can still be frustratingly ephemeral (maybe moreso in the post-roids era). And four eggs can be safer --- if not better --- than one, when shells crack so easily. That said, if you've got to choose a pitcher to hitch your wagon to, Santana seems like a good one --- excellent condition, not velocity-dependent. The same was true of Mike Hampton once upon a time, but he tended to nibble and waste pitches and Johan certainly doesn't. I also love the way the Twins, by plan or chance, built up his workload tenderly and with feeling. (See table.) Did you know that he wanted to be a shortstop like his dad, but when told that lefties couldn't play shortstop, he learned to throw righthanded? It's all here in this fine little wikibio at baseball-reference.com. John Cougar Lunchbucket Mar 30 2009 07:17 AM You got to wonder in the meantime whether the MFYs' official benching of Melky for Brett F. Gardner -- not to mention the fact that Hughes and Kennedy are still minor leaguers -- does anything to alert the columnists to the possibility that the MFYs might not in fact have possessed a better package, then or now. Eat shit. seawolf17 Mar 30 2009 07:20 AM B-b-b-but they're the Yankees! Of course their prospects are better than anyone else's! OlerudOwned Mar 30 2009 06:02 PM Speaking of trades with the Twins, former Mets prospect and Castillo trade piece Drew Butera is apparently on the inside track to start the season in the majors to hold place for the injured Joe Mauer. Edgy DC Mar 30 2009 06:13 PM Some pretty shallow organizational depth they've got there. The guy his .219 last year while repeating AA. He did get his share of walks, but skipping a level is a tall order. Ashie62 Mar 30 2009 06:22 PM They say trade Potential for the Proven..give or take 20 Million..Nice deal for the Mets regardless of how the traded do. The speed is there Edgy DC Mar 30 2009 06:41 PM You actually said you wanted to undo this trade back when you were calling him "Carlos Lopez." You additionally said that "Lopez" would be a Yankee in a few years leading us all to fits of regret. Kong76 Mar 30 2009 06:52 PM ny83: i think any deal of "prospects for the best pitcher in the league" is one you'll make over and over again. the problem comes when you trade prospects for mediocrities. those prospects might not pan out, but i'd rather have them over the mediocrity. Yuh, duh, and wuh? ... in that order. Santana's Jay Horowitz impersonation tonight in a dugout interview was pretty damn funny too. Ten owners is weak. Not much we can do about that. I am going to be home but also helping with the kids and such. Hopefully I will be able to make some of my own picks. Yahoo's auto-drafter is an a-hole.

="TheOldMole":1l0rp12p]I think the Hudson Valley Renegades are going to get the rest of my baseball dollars.[/quote:1l0rp12p] That's a nice park. I've been there with my dad once or twice. We will attend a AAA Syracuse Chiefs game every 2-3 weeks during the better weather. A great deal for live baseball, high quality product, and lots of great seats available for every home game (think 12-15 rows from the field, for about $8 a pop). Cheap concessions, 10 minute drive from the house, etc. Kong76 Mar 26 2009 04:21 AM I usually get to a Renegades game at least once a year ... Lowell Spinners too. Funny, after all these years I still haven't been out to see the 'clones.
