  5. Should the Mets demote Milledge, Nady is the next boo-bird. Floyd, too, if he's healthy and "apparently" blocking THE KID.
  6. Updated: June 10, 2006, 1:41 PM ET Miami QB prospect Stegall signs instead with MetsAssociated Press GREENWOOD, Ark. -- Daniel Stegall, a standout in two sports at Greenwood High School, has signed a contract with the New York Mets, putting college football on hold for now. Stegall, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound outfielder, said Friday that coaches at Miami, where he had committed to play quarterback, were understanding, if disappointed. He said he talked with them by telephone Thursday about his decision. Stegall led Greenwood to Class AAAA high school championships in both football and baseball as a senior, taking snaps at quarterback, pitching and playing in the outfield. He was expected to sign with Arkansas State before Miami showed late interest. He was picked by the Mets as the 214th overall selection in Tuesday's seventh round of the Major League Baseball first-year player draft. The Mets will pay Stegall more than $107,000 for signing with the organization. The contract also includes money for college should Stegall decide to continue his education. Stegall said he planned to leave Greenwood on Sunday for Port Lucie, Fla., where he will join a Mets' affiliate that plays in high Class A.
  7. Didn't the ump who grabbed Hubie Brooks by the jersey (was it 1984??) get some disciplinary action?
  8. With Mark Ellis out until the All Star Break, Oakland may be in the market. While they surely don't want Kaz, they may drive up the asking price for other available 2B-men.
  9. He's essentially a number five starter now-- let's judge him by back-of-the rotation standards.
  10. From espn.com: ]"Why not run the kid up there and give him the opportunity to play? This is an opportunity for the kid to get a taste without feeling he has to be the guy," Minaya said. "I like to give kids opportunities. He doesn't have to feel he's the savior. We have some vets around him and that will help him learn. That sound you hear is Bret's head exploding.
  11. ]HEY!--now Im Josias Manzanillo. That went quick. Things are lookin up already You must really hate Mike Stanton to prefer being a guy who lost a testicle to a line drive. ouch
  12. Beltran worth three times as much as Pedro.
  13. A quick read of the headline: "El Duque Bags Marlins" raised my eyebrows.

  17. ]they've turned that show and the whole network into the 'All-Barry' channel. But they have cancelled the insipid "BONDS ON BONDS"
  18. from shutuptimmccarver.com (a compliment about Mike Piazza serving as analyst for last year's playoffs) "You don't stare at the T.V. like an Amish in a lightbulb factory after he comments on something related to the strategy of the game." Not sure if this goes in the quotes thread, former mets thread, humor thread, or broadcaster thread--
  19. I actually like Joe Morgan--and I find McCarver entertaining, too. I also enjoy the Polish prince, Mike Krukow. Is that enough to get me permanently banned?? But here are a pair of sites that you haters might enjoy: www.shutuptimmccarver.com www.firejoemorgan.blogspot.com

  21. ]obviously mcewing, unlike peterson, actually CAN fix pitchers in ten minutes. Too funny. Jays sign Fonzie to miinor-league deal.
  22. So this means that some combination of El Duque, Soler, Heath Bell and Dave Williams effectively (we hope) replace Julio, Lima, and Jeremi Gonzalez. Me likey. And 62, I'm sorry I missed your original post in the roster thread.
  23. Amazing stat: Phils starter Gavin Floyd and reliever Ryan Madsen BOTH topped 100 pitches in this game. wow.
